hp 945

Strengths: great pic quality, 8x zoom, dslr trainer!!

Weakness: power consuming, lag between photos, slow manual lense focus, no external flash

if you are a begginer and wanted to jump into buying DSLR.. u might have problems with all the settings.. the good thing about this camera which i refer as a DSLR Trainer is, it has almost more than half of a common DSLR camera features. its definitely better than the compact camera but not as good as a DSLR. so if u r an ambitous beginner photographer, get this one, once u master it, then u have a very good basic to start using a real DSLR.

Slow & confused focusing system, but intuitive setup

Strengths: Very intuitive setup and using the camera is a snap. It is also powerful with many customizeable functions

Weakness: The lens is confused and slow sometimes. Make sure you have fresh NiMH batteries rather than one that's been used for sometime.

When I first started using this camera, it wouldn't power up properly because I was using a fully charged NiMH battery that's been sitting there for a while. It might have lost enough of the charge that it is insufficient to power up the camera. Buy a good warranty (extended) if possible.

Photosmart 945

Strengths: High Zoom (8x Optical, 7x Digital), Adaptive Lighting Technology, Value

Weakness: Long shutter delay; Large, bulky body style; Low battery life

Overall, a good value for the price. The high optical zooms lets me take pictures at various distances. The electronic viewfinder is pretty useful in prolonging battery life. Once it detects your eye on the viewfinder, the LCD cuts out. Menus aren't quite as intuitive but the manual explains most of the functions. For me, the biggest issue is the long camera shutter delay and writing to the memory card, which makes this camera not very useful for taking action shots. By the time it's ready to take the next picture, your subject would have moved out of focus. Still, a nice camera for the price.

HP Photosmart 945

Strengths: 8x optical zoom, electronic viewfinder, value for price

Weakness: Long camera shutter delay, low battery life, relatively large body

I bought this camera on clearance for around $85, which is a great price for a 8x optical, 7x digital zoom, 5 MP digital camera. I use it alternately with a 6 MP camera which does not have as great an optical zoom. I like the high-zoom lens that lets me take pictures from a variety of distances. However, main drawback is the long shutter delay and slow writing to the memory card. Using this camera for sports or action shots will be a challenge.

HP (Hewlett-Packard) Photosmart 945 5.1 Megapixel...

Strengths: great images; easy to use; nice feel; focus assist light is nice

Weakness: slow shutter lag; slow between shots; high repair costs; very low battery life

Unless you can buy this camera used "in good condition" for a very low price ($150-175), buy another camera. Another company that's been making cameras a long time. Bumping the lens only slightly can lead to repairs costing as much as the entire camera.

Good digital camera

Strengths: * Easy for point and shoot. * Very light and small! It easily fits in your pocket. * Great full color LCD viewscreen and easy to understand buttons.

Weakness: * Auto focus very slow. * Auto Focus will not always work, the only way I can get it to work was to power off and remove the batter is, similar to rebooting your PC. * Manual Focus very slow.

I compared many shots at 5MP between the top two compression settings and it's very hard to tell the difference, both are excellent. It does not provide a "raw" format, however, but it does not seem necessary.

HP (Hewlett-Packard) Photosmart 945 5.1 Megapixel...

Strengths: The 8X zoom lens is great. Camera is extremely easy to use.

Weakness: Takes a little to much time between pictures

This camera is great. I can take pictures of things that are far away as if I am a few feet away. I almost bought a digital SLR but decided to purchase this camera instead. I am not sorry as this eliminates the need to carry extra lenses with me.

HP (Hewlett-Packard) Photosmart 945 5.1 Megapixel...

Strengths: 8x optical zoom, 7x digital zoom Fuji lens ... very good starting point. Digital Flash extends the dynamic range very nicely. HP image processing.

Weakness: Extended shutter lag. Slow post processing in-camera. Limited onboard flash range and no hot shoe for external flash.

I am quite pleased with the HP 945. I received it as a warranty replacement for the HP C912 2 MP camera. The 8X optical zoom Fuji lens is a real plus. Some fault the 7X digital zoom as a waste in that it is nothing more than cropping the 8X image ... this may be true, but I find HP can process the cropping feature in-camera faster and with better results than I can in Photoshop. I like it.

The Digial Flash feature really is impressive at extending the dynamic range of the image ... shadow detail hidden becomes visible. I like it.

I have found that with a digital slave ($15) unit I can use my Vivitar 2800 external flash (mounted on a $15 flash bracket), and have almost as good flash control as a built-in hot shoe. I accept this.

Overall I find that the postprocessing done in-camera greatly speeds up my image preparation and I am very satisfied with the images when printed out. While I may frown while the camera slows to a crawl while processing the images, I smile at the results.

HP (Hewlett-Packard) Photosmart 945 5.1 Megapixel...

Strengths: Excellent quality pics at both MP settings

Weakness: Alkaline batteries don't last very long

Excellent all around camera for the serious photographer. Too many features to list, but I like 'em all including the 56x zoom and adaptive lighting technology. Adaptive lighting gives great pictures in low/mixed light conditions.

HP (Hewlett-Packard) Photosmart 945 5.1 Megapixel...

Strengths: It's "Adaptive Lighting Technology" incorporated into it's flash feature provides for an enhanced "backlighting" effect, illuminating the entire background, thus allowing for a more complete shot.

Weakness: The only "weakness" I can find is that it only has two or three resolution settings, whereby a 5.3+ Megapixel camera, regardless of the brand, should allow for many, many more resolution settings.

I can only recommend this camera using the highest of complimentary terms.

It's 2" Color LCD screen allows for a more clear choice of shots.

It's "Adaptive Lighting Technology" allows for more perfect shots in dark environments.

It's 56x total zoom (8x precision optical, 7x digital zoom) allows for unique distance shots not available on most, if not all, digital camera's of this megapixel range.

The list goes on and on.

Discount any criticism you may read about this product and go ahead and purchase it.

You'll find it's onboard "Help" screens get you to where you want to go in it's multiple settings modes to arrive at exacting precision with any and all shots you take with it.

It is solid in the hand, a substantial product with an outstanding array of features that guarantees everyone from the novice to the professional exceptional photography.

If this were a "Ten Star Rating System," the HP Photosmart 945 Digital Camera would rate an 11!

HP (Hewlett-Packard) Photosmart 945 5.1 Megapixel...

Strengths: High megapixels result in clear pictures. Zoom is also very good.

Weakness: Camera is slow in getting ready for next shot. Takes a few seconds to process pictures.

There are certain good things about this camera, the great 5MP resulution and easy to navigate menu are some of it big pluses. However, one of the major drawbacks to the camera is time between shots, while shooting children or other objects, the camera takes a while for the viewfinder to get ready for the next shot which means that you might miss the good shot of the little ones.

HP (Hewlett-Packard) Photosmart 945 5.1 Megapixel...

Strengths: 8x optical zoom. auto rotate for portrait pictures. lens cover attaches to lens, not housing.

Weakness: large, battery consumption. could have better color balance

Amazing camera overall. There is a mechanical lever that when you rotate the camera to photograph in the portriat orientation, it will automaticaly rotate the picture when saving. The grip on the camera is perfect for holding steady, no fears of dropping. I haven't used any of the included software, I simply transfer the photo's directly. Easy to use and navigate through the menus. There is a photo eye by the back by the viewfinder that will automatically turn on the viewfinder when your face gets close, and turns off the larger LCD. Likwise, the LCD comes on when the camera is taken a few inches away from the face. Good battery saver idea there. Saves images fast with the SD card. Awesome camera, deffintly reccomend
