Fujifilm HS50EXR
Strengths: manual zoom, high pixel count on displays, lightweight, comfortable to hold, fabulous zoom reach
Weakness: reliability, minimum f: stoo is F:11, clumsy menu system, manual focus ring does not have a stop - just continues to turn,
Tried 2 cameras - returned both. First one wouldn't focus beyond 500mm, lens zoom ring wasn't smooth, seemingly rubbing internal parts (not like lens on XS-1), Second camera had electrical problems and once froze up all buttons and dials on the camera. Had to remove battery to shut off. Also, when setting up the date, the display turned black after setting each datum for several seconds. Fujifilm tech support recommended returning unit. Also the second camera exhibited the same roughness in the zoom ring. Both units would not focus in super macro mode where the lens must be at maximum zoom according to manual. In regular macro, the zoom ring is used to establish the primary focus and then the focus button does the rest. I also saw moderate noise at ISO200 which may be the result of the 1/2" sensor. That is one of the biggest quality no-nos for me. Also noticed that RAW files were about 25MB is size each. You will need a large memory card for a good day of shooting (that's ok, but just be aware). The exposure bracketing is a maximum of 1 stop + or -, which really isn't enough for post processing HDR work. This spec is not anywhere I could find. I compared results to the older XS-1 which I see has excellent results and was disappointed that the HS50 doesn't measure up in many important areas.
