Strengths: Good Optical Zoom and High resolution.
Weaknesses: Alkaline battery would have been an asset.
Summary: Its a great deal. The Camera has lots of excellent features compared to the price that I've paid for it and also when compared to other products of same specifications. It has good optical zoom and really nice anti shake capability. It is good for ameature photographers like me.I would definitely recommend it.

Strengths: great zoom, fast and takes wonderful pics
Weaknesses: eats up battery a little fast
Summary: This is the nicest camera I have ever used. I would recommend this above any other high priced 6.0 mp camera. You will need a larger memory, I would suggest 1g. The pics come up as soon as you take the shot. The zoom is great..just enough and this one has the anti-shake which works real well. I love it!!

Strengths: lightweight, strong zoom, quick focus, zooming while recording, takes AA batteries.
Weaknesses: performance in low light can be better
Summary: I've had this camera for 2 weeks and I have to say that I am satisfied with my purchase. I was basically looking for a "mega-zoom" camera that is easy to live with. I had a film SLR and found it impractical to carry multiple lenses. So, for my first (I know! :P) digital camera, I was looking for something practical.
This camera is not the smallest, but does shoot good pictures and is very easy to operate. Mainly because the menus are logical and straightforward. The zoom and macro mode are definitely nice to have. I also appreciate the fact that it uses AA batteries.
All in all, for the price, it is a very attractive package. My other choice was the Panasonic FZ5. However, I am a bit worried about the availability of its proprietary battery a few years from now. Also, it is a bit more expensive (nicer lens, smaller, a bit better build).

Strengths: Lightweight, easy to handle body. Megazoom and antishake combination is superb. Outstanding battery life. Colour is a little soft but correct and enhances on Adobe very nicely. Menu easy to work with.
Weaknesses: Focus is slow in low light. I can live with this though. Just a little practise and you quickly overcome this weakness.
Summary: I've shot off over 900 photos in every situation I can find to explore it's capabilities. It took two weeks and my standard of shooting increased dramatically. I enjoyed the ability to manually use the settings and shoot off different exposures and speeds to see the result. I've used an inexpensive HP printer on gloss and matt paper and I'm very happy with the results to 20cm x 12.5cm. Above that, it's cheaper at a photo shop. I would certainly buy another and it's minor weaknesses are just that.

Strengths: Manual conrol, 12x zoom, anti shake, relatively light-weight, macro @ 1cm, night shots, great battery life, standard sd card
Weaknesses: EVF(electronic view finder)would be nice to see higher resolution, small video size
Summary: 2005-12-06 17:48:24 I have had this camera for about a month and this is my first digital. It is a great camera, I have taken night shots, macro shots, landscape and portrait shots and I am continually impressed with the features offered by this camera. While not a total digital SLR, it has plenty of manual controls and options to keep you busy setting composition. I was a little weary about purchasing this camera since the reviews that were given on some other sites were less than stellar. After reviewing the other cameras in the same line it was clear that for the price that this camera would certainly do all that i would need it to do. I have never taken such beautiful shots even with my 35 mm.

The macro has two settings one is just macro and allows tight focus and the other is super macro which allows for shots to be at 1cm from the lens. On one of the shots of the dandelion the front of the lens was actually touching the subject.
and the night shots i manually set the exposure to 4 sec and used a tripod.
Overall I am thrilled about its performance, provided you take photos with the proper settings I haven't experienced much if any purple fringe. I did notice it on a bright cloudy day off a white object(a transformer on a power pole) but i studied the subject and took multiple shots at different settings to find a way to eliminate it. I live in Seattle so there are plenty of days like that. Like any camera or anything, have patience and learn how to use it and you will be amazed by it also.
Be sure to buy a fast SD card, 60x or better. This camera can shoot fast if you have the memory speed for it. Also, NiMH batteries at 2500 capacity last a loooooong time for me, I don't know if it is the weather or the camera or both but I get well over 400 shots on a charge.
I have snapped almost all of my shots in P mode which sets the aperature and the shutter speed for you, I almost always have ISO at 50 and have found the flash to work well, but I try to avoid using it whenever possible, thats just my style.
I wish the EVF was better resolution but for the price I can't really complain too much for all the other features this camera allows. It is a little grainy at 114,000 pixels,but that is standard for all cameras in this class you can make out composition and exposure well.
The video mode is small, I shot a couple of movies with it but it is not what I was looking for in a camera, so im not bothered by the small resolution.
I have no regrets with my purchase, I love this little camera.
I hope that this has helped some and that you find the camera that is best for you or your loved one this year.

Strengths: For the price, and for the fact that it's not a professional digital SLR, amazing.
Weaknesses: The digital viewfinder. Resolution isn't great, and actual viewfinders are better anyway
Summary: I am amazed by this camera. The fact that it has everything it has for the price is incredible. The optical zoom, anti-shake and other functions are great.
I've been using professional 35mm SLR's up till now, and decided to stick my toes in the digital water. I bought this camera to experiment with before I dropped the 2-3 grand on a nice SLR, and i'm pretty impressed with the options and settings this camera allows. I love the manual settings (including focus) that seem to be scarce in cameras of similar prices.
My only criticism is the viewfinder. I realize that nobody likes the actual viewfinders anymore, but there's something about looking through and actually seeing what you're capturing that is worthwhile. In addition, if it's going to be digital, it needs to have better resolution.
All in all, one of the best cameras you can get without going pro.

Weaknesses: Sometimes hard to find the optimal focus point in that long zoom range.
Summary: 2005-11-14 07:07:18 I got the camera 7 weeks ago and am very pleased with it. I have taken over 1200 photos with it. It is fast, easy to use, full-featured camera and produces very good pictures. Straight out of the camera the pics are a bit soft and a bit dull, but a touch of unsharp mask and color boost makes them very good indeed. I don't use the video function, so I won't judge the camera on this basis. I took pics of similar subjects with my other cameras (Minolta A1, Konica Minolta A2, G500, Panasonic FZ20)and found the Z6 to compare favorably with them after a bit of sharpening and color boost. The images are quite noise-free. Low-light performance is good, provided there is a point of light or strong contrast for the camera to latch on to. The 12x optical zoom is wonderful, as is the macro and super-macro performance. The anti-shake feature works well and is a great help. The camera has lots of features and functions. It is small side of medium; it seems a bit heavier and more solid than the Z1. Another nice feature is that accessories from my previous Minoltas work with this camera also--ac adapter and flash, rechargeable AA batteries and charger. Battery life is excellent--over 350 shots (most with flash) with one set of rechargeable 2600 AAs. Highly recommended.

Summary: i own a dimage z1 the first dimage z series, this z6 sad to say is the last z series, minolta if you are reading with a camera like this why would you leave the camera business. this has it all 6 megapixels like my nikons, anti-shake like a vr lens and 420mm max zoom. it would cost me over 5,000 dollars to equip my nikons with these features. yes i own a d2h, d70, d100, and 12 lens. this is the perfect backup travel camera. picture quality is as good as my d2h and very sharp and good white balance. dont listen to the reviews that say to noisey and slow this is the best buy and deal going. minolta make more camera's

Summary: So far tis camera seems great. The delay for taking a picture is pretty good. The pictures look good and I tried it out in dim light. I will test it out in a dimly lit sports situation this weekend but I trust it will do fine.
The manual control of a large set of features is great, if you like that sort of thing. For me, I just want it to take decent pictures fast in dim to good light so the features are almost too many. The zoom will come in handy and the resolution is fins for pictures up to 8X10.
So far the battery life sees good too.
Perhaps this camera does nothing great but it seems to do everything very well. Picture quality, speed, flexibility, ease of use, external flash capability, battery life, zoom range, resolution, etc.
People have complained about noise and focus speed under low light conditions but they must be talking VERY low light because I tested this out in a good sized living room at night lit by a single 60W bulb and it did just fine.
So far so good.....

Strengths: Great zoom, Anti-shake, In-motion pictures, many functions
Weaknesses: All of the functions are kind of complicated, Hard to see in low-light settings
Summary: I originally bought this camera to take action shots of my boyfriend and other friends on my college's baseball team. It has been one of the most wonderful investments I have ever made! I take my camera everywhere I go! It takes great pictures in motion and you can manually or auto focus. The picture quality is supurb! I HIGHLY recommend this camera to anyone who love shooting pictures anywhere! It's an all around GREAT camera!

Strengths: Lightweight, easy to use, smart menues, Zoom to 420 mm (!!!)
Weaknesses: Monitor is fix, but good quality
Summary: Very lightweight and handy; with this unbeatable zoom! You have to check it out: up to 420mm thats wonderful, and with the stabilizer you are able not to shake the picture. I get them very sharp even out of my hand. The 6 MB is enough to get A4 pictures printed, and the colors are fine and you get the dust on the surface exacly as it is. The batteries are easy to change in the grip, and they last long! Is a brandnew function (for me at least) that you take a stream of pictures and the camera holds the last memory full of pictures, not the first memory full. You can push the button early, no fear, that in best phase the memory will be full.

Strengths: the awsome zoom, ease of use, manual controls, lcd quality, looks, quality of make, can add lenses and filters with adaptor, very very strong software.
Weaknesses: low light picture quality, in full 48X zoom picture quality(which is to be expected to a certain extend).
Summary: for the price you just can't get a better camera, it's an all around amazing camera which will make you fall in love with photography if you arent already. its a shame that konica-minolta have decided to no longer make digital cameras.

 not for novices Strengths: solid metal construction,large lcd,cushioned grip,12X optical,ease of controlls,
Weaknesses: the danger of overheating,no af assist lamp,difficulty focusing in low light,weak flash. exposure needs to be constantly tweaked,a hassle somtimes,anti-shake is useless in telephoto
Summary: this camera is a good choice for those who have had expierence with 35mm film cameras in the past,but for the novice user the constant tweaking of its settings makes it fustrating for the point-&-shooter. using auto or program will not give you a perfect shot. the camera needs to be fine tuned for nearly every shot. the anti-shake is useless when using the telephoto, and its possible for the camera to overheat if left on for long periods of time.
its still a reasonably good camera,with some minor flaws that can be over looked.
