Fujifilm Finepix F460 Digital Camera

Strengths: AMAZING 2.5" LCD quality, picture is fantastic, very easy to navigate, sleek design, lightweight, user friendly

Weakness: No viewfinder (not a huge deal for many), limited automatic and manual features, no RAW mode, average opitcal zoom

The 5.1 megapixel f460 is the succesor of the f450, which was in my opinion an average camera. It seems as though Fuji has improved many of the kinks that hindered the f450 (design, video features and most importantly image quality). This camera's LCD is one of the best I have seen. It is very crisp and at 2.5" (on only a 3" camera) it's nothing short of stunning. The camera is comfortable, takes great pictures, has a variety of scene modes, and weighs just slightly over 4 ounces. To those who are photography enthusiasts, this may not have enough manual and automatic features, no raw format, and a slightly average shutter lag. For those like myself who want a fun, sleek, portable camera, with a large LCD that takes great pictures, the Fuji Finepix f460 is it. The older version F450's movie resolution topped out at a substandard 320x240, with a limited 60 seconds of footage at a weak 10fps (frames per second). However the f460 records movie clips in 640 x 480 resolution or 320 x 240 resolution at up to 30 fps with audio (limited in length only by available memory capacity) and it also records voice memos. Some of the other features not found on the older model include continuous shooting mode (captures up to 44 frames at up to 1.9 fps for fast action shots), and automatic scene recognition and preset (fine, shade, fluorescent daylight, fluorescent warm white, fluorescent cool white and incandescent) white balance controls to achieve natural tones under different lighting conditions. It also has ISO Equivalent (the amount of light needed to take a picutre) at Auto, 64, 100, 200, 400, and 8 automatic white balance adjustment options. In summary, the Finepix f460 is a 5.1 megapixel, 4 ounce camera with a beautiful 2.5" LCD, that takes great pictures. At only $249...consider it a steal.

My wife and I just bought the f460 tonight from BestBuy. The camera must be available in the US only from BestBuy as I could find no information anywhere else on the web except in Europe. In fact, the camera is only marginally listed on the Fujifilm USA web site. Anyway - in comparison to the Nikon S1, the viewfinder was nothing short of spectacular (and I am a Nikon user through and through, from my old Nikkormat FT2 to my newer D70). We shot still pictures, video and macro pictures and in each mode, the Fuji just blew the little S1 away. The screen is bigger than the Canon SD400 so that model was not in the running either. The only minor drawback may be that the Fuji uses xD cards instead of the more common and cheaper SD cards. If you watch for sales, however, this should not be a huge problem. A note - the BestBuy employees did not seem to know what to do with this camera, as it is very new. When we showed them the huge clarity difference in the viewfinders of the f460 and the competing cameras, they suggested that the other cameras may still take better pictures. That may be so, but my guess is I would delete more pictures on the competing cameras because of the poor quality image I would see after the shot. Also, the warranty is listed on the BestBuy site as a "Limited Lifetime Warranty" on parts! Seems too good to be true, but I am going to do a bit more research.

One of the best ultra slims

Strengths: Fast power up, big LCD, slim design, 640x480 video, good feature set.

Weakness: Plastic tripod mount and batter cover (all utra slims seem to have plastic battery covers).

I have been using my F460 for a few weeks now and I really like love this camera. This cammera was an addition to my Fuji S5000, which is too difficult for my wife to use, and I like using it more than the S5000! When powered on I can take a picture within 1 second. The 2.5" LCD is amazing and great for reviewing and displaying shots. The LCD is viewable even in bright sunny conditions. I used the camera all day on multiple occasions, capturing 150+ pictures and three video clips and the battery still showed full charge. 640x480 video clips at 30fps is amazing, nice high quality video capture. 10 preset shooting modes allows the camera to capture high quality images in all types of environments. Simple operation makes using the camera a dream, even for beginners. Burst mode captures great sequential pictures up to 44 frames. Slim design allows the camera to fit easily into a pocket, which is much better than having a big bulky camera around your neck all day. Image quality has been fantastick in all conditions (indoors and outdoors). My father-in-law just bought the Nikon Coolpix L1 and likes my Fuji better. He paid $329 and I paid $250. FOr $75 less I have the better camera, hands down.

Fuji F460 - what a nice find!

Strengths: Small size, excellent 2.5" LCD screen, Great body contour (finger grip)

Weakness: A bit slower on the shot ready (focus) with flash, but workable.

ell, just picked this one up - I'd been eyeing the Z1, Z2 (not yet released) and all of the other ultracompact competition out there. A lot to read up on. So far, I like it, feel is very nice with the slight contour that the body provides, allows a place to put your thumbs and guides your forefinger to help hold the camera (something that very few of the others have). I'm impressed with the feature set that this ultra affords - to include a manual mode where you can adjust exposure compensation, and white balance.
