Olympus C-2020 Zoom 1600x1200 8MB

Strengths: Excellent pictures for a 2 megapixel camera; clear and sharp. Colors true, except for certain shades of deep red. Focuses quickly and efficiently. NiMH Batteries last long. Many creative options.

Weakness: Lens cap not attached, impedes lens from extending when camera is turned on. Filter adapter interferes with flash. Certain shades of dark red are not true.

I bought this camera to use for digital infrared photography...and it has not disapointed me. I was able to take many sharp IR photos from a sailboat on a recent trip, using 72 and 87 filters. It was no slouch for regular color phography, either. This camera is sought after for use in digital IR photography, and is not always easy to find; and it is only available refurbished or used. The more recent Olympus models are designed to defeat infrared light for better color management and photo quality in normal color situations, and they are not as suitable for IR photography; exposures have to be too long. I was so impressed by the good handling and great IR pictures that I bought a second one. Also, I no longer have to worry about airport security ruining my Kodak HIE(High Speed Infrared)film which I used to use with my Canon EOS630 SLR, or refrigerating it, especially in a sailboat with sometimes limited refrigeration options! I highly recommend the Olympus C-2020Z to anyone interested in Digital Infrared photography, or to someone who wants a good first digital camera with many creative options.

Olympus C-2020 Zoom 1600x1200 8MB

Strengths: Familiar design, great picture quality, zoom

Weakness: Lens cap, 8MB memory smartmedia card is small.

This camera has all the features you'd expect from a digital camera. It has a durable LCD display which can be turned off to save power, plus zoom lense, and a multi-mode flash.

This camera is great with a 32 MB or 64 MB smartmedia card you can capure 64 images in 1600x1200 format on a 32MB card. These hi-res pictures look great.

Olympus C-2020 Zoom 1600x1200 8MB

Strengths: Lightweight, high quality images

Weakness: No longer "state-of-the-art", lack of lens cap control

I got this camera as a present in 1999, and I've never had any problems with it. My only gripe is about the lens cap - there's no connector to keep it attached to the camera while you're using it. The camera will also attempt to extend the lens if the cap is still on, which results in some weird banging noises. That doesn't appear to have damaged the camera, though.

The biggest con with this camera is that it has been around for a few years - if you're looking for the top of the line, this camera is not for you. However, the image quality is terrific, even if you aren't using the highest resolution.
