Nikon Coolpix 950 1600x1200 8MB

Strengths: This camera produces good quality photos. It is lightweight and easy to transport.

Weakness: Impossible to use with wide angle lense when using outside in sun. The LCD is impossible to view because of the glare and the photographer is basically "shooting in the dark."

I use the 950 as a real estate photographer. It is basically easy to use but I worry about the pivot point between the two sections breaking. My camera gets a lot of wear and tear and hasn't let me down yet. I have been a little disappointed in the flash. It requires a lot of juggling with settings to be useful and is, of course, worthless with a wide angle lense attached.

Nikon Coolpix 950 1600x1200 8MB

Strengths: Lightweight, good monitor and status display, great picture quality

Weakness: Hard on batteries, awkward shifting between taking and viewing pictures, comes with only 8MB RAM

This is my first digital camera, so I don't have much to compare with, but I LOVE this camera. It has a somewhat unusual design - the camera pivots in the center, making it look like two rectangles glued together on a 90 degree angle. This gives it a somewhat non-camera feel, but it's easy to get used to.

The camera is simple to operate - we were using it within a minute of unpacking it. There is a somewhat awkward transition between taking and viewing pictures, and the interface for reviewing and deleting is a little confusing. The quality of the picture previews is excellent, although the final product is FAR better than the monitor preview.

Lots of intriguing features, including rapid shooting and one very unusual feature - you can set the camera to take 12 pictures in very rapid succession, and let the camera decide which one is best. Sounds strange, but yields great results for action shots.

The camera lacks one thing that is a standard problem with all cameras - what do you do with the lens cap? And why don't they include that little doodad for sticking it to the camera?

All in all - a great camera. I recommend that you buy at least an additional 32MB Compact Flash card, plus a reader for your computer. You can transfer pictures using the serial cable instead of the reader, but it is PAINFULLY slow.
