Konica Minolta DiMAGE Xg 3.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: I like the size and the look. Picture is good and very easy to use.

I bought one earlier and now I just bought the second one for my parents.
It's easy to use! My father is 75 and he was able to master it within 30 minutes.

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Xg 3.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Picture quality, battery life, size, fast startup

Weakness: None

I've had this camera for a couple of weeks and it is perfect for my main use. I'm a sports memorabilia collector and need something small and fast so I can capture various sports figures autographing items. My old camera a Kodak DC240 Zoom was just to big this camera can be whipped out and a nice pic can be taken on a fly. I've also used it in low to no light and they came out perfect. The battery charger is great you can always have a fresh battery to use, if you need one. I've gotten over 100 shots without having to change batteries. I highly recommend this camera for anyone who wants a small pocket sized camera that can take quick pictures whenever the need arises.

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Xg 3.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: small size, ease of operation

Weakness: no macro mode, small screen

Great camera for occaisional pictures. It is fairly simple to operate. Flash charges fairly quickly. The samll view screen makes it somewhat difficult to see details, but the compact size makes up for it all.

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Xg 3.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Compact, lightweight, highly portable. Great battery life. Digital zoom actually produces usable results. Sharp images. Great movie taker. Accurate skin tones and other colors. Powerful flash.

Weakness: Cannot see LCD screen in bright light. Slight vignetting at wide angle. Weak lens cover -- don't put any pressure on it.

I've had this camera for only 14 days; but I've already taken over 500 pictures in all sort of conditions, such as bright outdoors at a sunny beach, dark indoors at a bar, in the woods while biking. I continue to be impressed by this camera's many great features. Most features are obvious; but some you learn after you read the manual or start playing around within the menus. Startup time is fast and there's very little delay when taking pictures. When set on automatic mode, the camera does a great job choosing the scene mode and the automatic fill-in flash is great too. The flash is physically small; but it is quite powerful and can easily flood a room. Movie taking is impressive and I like that the microphone is on the front of the camera. Sound is picked up nicely and comes out well. Battery life is great even with using the flash. The LCD screen is difficult to see in bright light; but just use the viewfinder. One thing I am still learning is to keep my finger away from the lens. The camera is relatively flat and my finger often overlaps the top front of the camera and ends up in the corner of some shots. I myself can learn to not put my finger in the lens; but I've noticed strangers do it too when you ask them to take your picture. Nighttime scenes with no flash come out well; but use a tripod since the lens has to stay open longer. The build quality is good; but I don't trust the lens cover (it's good; but when you look at it, you know that you do not want to apply direct pressure to it (in a way that's good because you'll be less likely to damage the lens behind it)). I bought this camera for it's portability and for being able to quickly snap off good quality shots that I can throw up onto the web. The pictures come out well; but I would not use it to replace my SLR. I've used PhotoShop to do some cropping and resizing; but I haven't had to edit any of the lighting -- the camera really does a great job. Sometimes the colors could be a little more saturated, though. I have not yet used any of the software that came with the camera. Though, I understand that you can use the camera as a web cam. Overall, it is an impressive little camera and I would highly recommend it.

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Xg 3.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Compact and lightweight camera that allows photographers on the go to take high-quality pictures in any place and at anytime

Weakness: No A/V output and slide show function. This is probably the biggest loss for the XG.

The ultra slim Minolta DiMAGE Xg packs a 3x optical zoom and 3.2-megapixel resolution into a body that is just 20mm thick! Though the DiMAGE Xg is almost identical to its predecessor, the DiMAGE Xt, it has a number of fundamental difference, including a faster start-up time (a speedy 0.8 seconds), a larger 1.6" LCD monitor, and a fast, 30-frame-per-second movie mode for high quality movies. Much longer battery life - 240 minute playback versus 120 for the XT. Specific AE program modes for sports, portraits, landscapes, sunsets, night scenes. Sports means faster shutter to catch action and so on. Multi-frame in one frame capture for action sequences (9 pics in less than three seconds). Manual settings mode somewhat like the Canon S230. One switch setting chooses the auto settings including the 5 AE modes. The other lets you choose color mode, ISO sensitivity, metering, and white balance. PictBridge printing support. In camera picture editing functions such as cropping and reframing pictures. In camera cut/paste function allows you to place an image within another image. This is one fantastic camera!

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Xg 3.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Anytime, anywhere camera with great features. Easy and Comfortable interface. Value!!!

Weakness: Not for the professional photographers.

What can I say? The previous reviews can describe how Goooood Dimage Xg is. It has a number of features that anyone need to take a picture anywhere, anytime. Great Value!
To be honest, there is NO disadvantages! but if I have to write down those, the only thing that would be disadventage (especially for me) is the battery. I prefer using rechargeable/on-rechargeable AA battery rather than a special battery (i.e. Lithium-Ion) as it is easy to get everywhere when losing the power.

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Xg 3.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Size. One of the sleekest designs around. Their zoom lens technology very unique, as it doesn't protrude from the camera.

Weakness: Few. Compared to its predecessor (the XT), cannot use the same charger. No external inputs for the charger.

This is the third Dimage I have owned, and am very happy with it. The others were given away as gifts. The XG is very similar to the XT, if anything it seems the major difference is that it is now marketed under the "Konica Minolta" name. Start-up seems a tad faster with this new one. Pictures come out very clean. It really is the perect camera for the point and click type of photographer. It's small enough, and thin enough, so you can keep it on you all the time. It also has a few more features than the XT,like the automatic program selection-which select portrait, landscape, sports or sunset mode.

The main peeve I have with this one is that my AC adapter from my XT is no longer compatible with this camera, as there are no inputs for it on the outside. Aside from that, great camera. I highly recommend it.

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Xg 3.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: The size is great, fits anywhere, very light, good battery strength.

Weakness: Flash power weak, easy to cover lens with finger, picture clarity only average compared to other 3.2mp cameras

Great size on the camera, super easy to carry and fit anywhere. The video recording is good, only limited by storage space, up to 30fps and you can zoom while recording. The XG has some little cut and paste picture gimmicks that must be popular in Japan but aren't very useful. The number of pixels on the LCD display has gone DOWN since the last model (XT) and is noticible. But fewer pixels mean less battery used.
Overall, the camera is decent, but don't expect picture quality equal to that of a full-size 3.2mp camera. There's a price to pay for size.

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Xg 3.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Great design, elegant, so slim that you can carry it with you at all times. Fastest start up time! (less than 1 second). Also, great picture quality!

Weakness: Haven't seen any so far

It is a must have camera!
Great picture quality. And no need to wait hours between two shots (so you won't miss great pictures as with most digital cameras).
It is also very small so you don't have to worry about it, bring it EVERYWHERE!
Buy it with confidence!!

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Xg 3.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: ultra fast startup time, weight and size for portability, long battery life

Weakness: small viewfinder, interface not for first time DIGICAM users.

When I upacked the box, what I thought was an accessory was actually the camera already. Excellent physical features, no bulges.

Picture quality is great. No need to wait for a next shot. Good for moving subjects.

You'd want a casing to go with it because scratches are easily noticed.

The way you hold it needs some getting used to so you don't block the lens.

As with all compact cameras, special batteries are used and they are quite expensive. So if you prefer using standard (ie AA) batteries, you just have to make with standard-sized cameras.

Buttons not so suitable for first time digicam users, unlike Kodak that's user-friendly you dont' have to read the manual to learn everything. Best for intermediate users (like me). Excellent choice for $250 and below budget.

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Xg 3.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: compact size, ease of use

Weakness: some features from earlier xt model left out

I have owned several compact digital cameras, but the previous Minolta Dimage Xt (and this Xg) are the only ones that I found I carried all the time. It is that compact and light. The design allows you to carry it in a pocket with no case (although the lcd screen might get a little roughed up). I gave away the last Xt I had as a gift and bought the Xg. I liked the speedier startup (although the Xt was fast), but otherwise wished I had just replaced my Xt. The slightly larger LCD is not such a great improvement (a Sony compact model has a really big LCD), I don't like the fact I can't store in Tiff format any more (routinely saved all my photos in that format) and I don't like the fact that I can't just pop the camera into a cradle to charge it. The Xt was easy to use for elderly (my 91 year old Mom) but from experience I know she will have more difficulty taking the battery pack out of the Xg and charging it. (She previously had a Nikon Coolpix 2500 and had difficulty removing its battery.) USB 2 would have been a good feature to add to the series as I use the camera for routine storage of lots of files and the faster USB would have been nice. Another feature for better ease of use for elderly would be to have one USB cable with cradle so that popping in that cradle would both charge the camera and allow transfer of pictures.

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Xg 3.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: The Dimage Xg is a significant improvement over the Dimage X, whixh I previously owned. Light weight, great pictures, easy to use, nice sized LCD screen all make this a camera to stick in your pocket

Weakness: None noted.. Practice makes it easy to use.

This camera is great for any one who wants a small unit that will fit in your pocket and purse. It then is easy to reach and with the fast startup is ready to shoot pictures or movies in an instant. The LCD screen has been enlarged and is easy to use. Great Pictures..

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Xg 3.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: small size takes good pictures zoom LCD display in front

Weakness: battery life not the longest a little larger than I expected, but still small

This is a great camera for the price! it's very convenient - you can take it anywhere, and actually capture images that you normally wouldn't w/ a bigger camera. many more positives than negatives.

+'s:
small size
zoom + digital zoom
picture LCD display
cheap

-'s:
battery life not the longest
a little larger than I had hoped for, but still not bad

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Xg 3.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Small form factor and non-protruding zoom lens

Weakness: External battery charger. No case came with it.

The XG is a very small and compact camera that can fit in your shirt pocket so you can bring it with you everywhere you go. Image quality is very good, and startup time is a dream. The only negative is that the battery doesn't charge inside the camera, and it doesn't come with a case.

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Xg 3.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Size - fits in shirt pocket, but not too small to be akward to handle when taking picture. Excellent picture quality Easy to understand menu and easy to change. 3x optical zoom internal to the camera

Weakness: Have to remove battery to charge- but not major issue.

I bought this camera 10 days ago and took it to a business trip. Snapped many pictures both outdoors and indoors with excellent quality. I also shot three movies at 320 and 30fps and even in low light they came out wonderful with clear sound. I can't ay enough about this camera. I wanted the small size to carry in my pocket, and with the automatic lens cover on shutdowm, you dont have to worry about damage, dirt etc. The battery life in great, as I shot over 120 pictures at fine resolution, over half with flash plus 3 movies average length of 2.5 minutes.. on one charge. I am more than satisfied with this camera.

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Xg 3.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Tiny. Well engineered.

Weakness: It would be nice to have choice of higher resolution for video, but I think this will come in time.

This camera is great. It's smaller than the canon elph, cheaper, and the zoom is better. I highly recommend it. The design is cool. I really like how the zoom is internal also.

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Xg 3.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Size, ease of use

Weakness: Finger can block the lens

I think this camera is one of the best digital cameras I've ever used. It's size is great. It is very easy to use and the menus are simple to access and it's easy to change settings. It takes beautiful photos very easily.
The only drawback is that it's very easy to block the lens with ones finger.

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Xg 3.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Small size, very light and easy to carry in a purse. Very good quality of prints for such a small camera. Very fast start up time.

Weakness: Would have wanted some type of case to protect the LCD screen.

I was looking for a small camera that would be light and easy to carry in a purse. This camera is great! I would definitely buy it again. The picture quality is very good for such a small camera--very good color contrast and sharpness. I also like the fact that the lens does not extend out while zooming.

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Xg 3.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Small Size, Picture Quality, Internal Zoom Lens

Weakness: LCD Screen Size, No internal Charger, Lense Placement

This camera is awesome. The picture Quality rivals that of 5 megapixel cameras. I took a picture of my newborn daughter 6 inches away from her face and printed an 8 x10 of the photo. The picture looked like it was taken by a profesional camera with a macro lense. Forget the expensive 5 megapixel cameras, this one will do it all.

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Xg 3.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Its lightweight has great photo modes/features and a long battery life. Excellent for a beginner

Weakness: The screen is a little small compared to some more current digital camera models

This is my second Minolta camera. I am buying another one for a friend that loves mine as a gift! I would higly recommend this as a starter camera, and with 3.2 megapixels it can print large photos 8x10 and does the job well with excellent resolution.

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Xg 3.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Extremely compact, easy to carry even in a shirt pocket. Has become my everyday camera, except when my 12X optical digital camera is needed. Great battery life. Highly recommend it!

Weakness: Wish optical viewer would zoom beyond just the 3X optical range, but LCD shows actual zoomed picture anyway, so this is a minor gripe. I highly recommend this unit!

Price vs performance is hard, if not impossible to beat given current choices in the market. Doubtless, there will be even more compact cameras at even lower prices to come, but I envision a camera much smaller would be difficult to handle and use.

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Xg 3.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

I purchased my Konica Minolta DiMAGE Xg Digital Camera on 14 April. I spoke with a very nice gentleman in customer service to place the order. He didn't try to sell me any more than an extra memory stick, which seems like it was a good idea, and I'm glad I bought it. He was friendly and patient, and repeated things several times for me without hesitation. I called back that day, and I was able to get an estimated delivery date. The whole process went smoothly and my camera came yesterday. It is exactly what I wanted. My only complaint is that the extra memory stick (shipped from a different location than the camera) came in a box over 20 times the necessary size. A sturdy envelope would have sufficed. I would definately order from 1shopdirect again.

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Xg

Minolta's "X" series of subcompact digicams have been a big hit in the market, and it's easy to see why: They're well-built, take great pictures, and are super compact. The DiMAGE Xg is the latest in the line, and it's a beauty. Color is better than ever, battery life the longest yet for an X-model, and Minolta also seems to have made some improvements in the lens as well. If you're in the market...
