I bought this as a gift for my...

Strengths: Very compact, easy to use, and it has the "Cute" factor my wife loves... This Camera takes very nice pictures and has so many features. The movies have decent resolution and sound! Very durable.

Weakness: Must upgrade memory from the start. I purchased a 40X 256 Compact flash card and it works fine. Would be nice to have a 1Gig. Sometimes Flash is a bit strong, but better than too weak :)

I bought this as a gift for my wife who is not technology "Savy." She loves it and so does almost everyone who uses it. CAN YOU SAY GREAT CAMERA! For the Price.. I paid $250, this camera takes beautiful pictures, movies, and most importantly is easy to use!! My previous cameras where very slow. This camera has almost a nonexistent hesitation from button push to shot. Ask any digital camera person how important quickness and ease become as you begin to really USE your camera. We take around 400 pictures per month with this camera and it does a great job. I have dropped it a couple of times, and besides a minor scratch on the exterior from a "Bad drop" :( it still works and looks great. Battery life is ok, but I would suggest buying an additional one. Do not bother with the generics they do not compare to the factory Canon battery. Buy a real battery from Canon and a good protective case! Highly recommend this camera for people who actually take their camera with them and like to take pictures... You will enjoy this little machine. :)

I jump from one store to another...

Strengths: take good shots...good for beginners

Weakness: no enough life for battery

I jump from one store to another to look for this product... I got it from geeks.com for they offer low price compared to other stores….The shots from this product are great, and I have taken photos in a very wide variety of settings, I've even printed out my shot and impressed a lot of people with the sheer quality & color of the photos.

The S410 is a great camera, one...

Strengths: Great compact size, 3x zoom in a tiny package, quick power on, some good creative controls

Weakness: battery life a bit weak

The S410 is a great camera, one which you can use to take good snapshots and also use for artistic shorts. The almost all-metal body is tough and can survive some abuse. I highly recommend this camera.

The S410 is an upgrade to the S400. The improvements that Canon put into this camera include quick share and quick print, so that with the included canon software you can plug your camera in and have it email your photos to friends and family. They also improved the auto-focus (which works quite well) and the startup time (2 seconds from pressing the start button) and shutter response time.

The LCD screen on the back of the camera also works quite well: it's visible both in a dark room and in bright sunlight.

My only two gripes about the camera is that:

1. It includes only a 32MB card (which holds around 20 shots or so). Canon could include a larger memory card considering how cheap CF cards are these days.

2. The battery life is a bit weak. With a flash the camera dies in about 80 shots. Without the flash it lasts around 160 shots with the LCD Screen.

Bottome line: The S400 is a good intermediate camera in a compact size. It is great for snapshots and for those that want a bit more creative control in their shots. Best of all, it's built tough, with an almost all metal body (except the door that holds the CF card which is plastic!)

This is my second s410 after I...

Strengths: Excellent picture quality, small, uses compact flash which memory is cheap and picturebridge to print directly to color printer, Easy to operate

Weakness: Nothing that I can think of regarding picture quality and color reproduction, except occasional red eye inspite of turning on the red eye reduction feature. No battery life indicator.

This is my second s410 after I water damaged my first one. Did not have second thoughts for buying the same model once again. You might want to buy an extra battery though and the aftermarket ones on ebay are pretty cheap and perform well. OEM batteries are expensive. I did not see any distinct advantage except for the name brand.

Great pictures and nice size. 2...

Strengths: Great pictures, nice size

Weakness: Computer connectivity, Len mechanism

Great pictures and nice size. 2 things broke, the cable connection set-up to computer/printer no longer works for whatever reason AND more importantly I got a E-18 error code and a blank screen after about a year of use. apprently it is pretty common with these Elph cameras. The gears used are both Metal and Plastic working together and eventually the plastic ones wear out and throw the lens movement off track. Here is the kicker, only Canon can fix this and they want essentially a third of what I paid for the camera to begin with. Too bad cause nice nice pictures. Anyone interested should search E-18 error code on internet before buying. My camera is now a loss and sits in a desk. Hope this helps.

i have been very impressed with...

Strengths: very easy to use...the included software was easy to follow for a first-time digital camera owner like myself...the size of the camera is a perfect fit...

Weakness: the camera definitely needs a bigger memory card (256MB recommended) and also a camera case (canon powershot case also recommended) to complete the total package...

i have been very impressed with this camera...i checked out all the 4 MP digital cameras out there before i chose this one and i have had no regrets thus far...a great choice for a first time digital camera owner...

This is a beautiful camera,...

Strengths: Size and quality

This is a beautiful camera, compact but with a hard metallic case. The pictures show excellent quality even under low light. It is easy to use, with enough (but few) controlls. I don't like the cheap plastic door of the A/V connector.

I did a fair amount of research to...

Strengths: Nice small compact shape, easy to learn to use, pictures usually turn out nice and clear, sharp LCD, some nice basic functions, nice battery charger, good playback mode, sound recording possible

Weakness: Not very many manual controls, basically a point&shoot camera, somewhat awkward to hold, not bundled with case or adapter, somewhat short battery life

I did a fair amount of research to get a ~4+megapixel, $500CAN dollar type of digital camera- and this was one of the choices (among the olympus c-60, the s500 elph, and the powershot s50 and 45). I based my choice on image quality, ease of use, price, appearance, cost, type of memory and availability. Image quality was the most important consideration and Canon really seemed to outshine the rest of the cameras on the market...
I initially bought this camera due to the small size, and relatively good reviews about the good picture quality, and ease of use. I realized after using it for about 100 pics that I wanted more control over picture taking- after all, I wasn't limited anymore by waiting for the film to develop and i could take as many pics as i wanted and try out all sorts of effects and exposures and so forth- This camera showed me how great digital pics could turn out- but it also showed me that I could have much more flexibility if i picked a camera with more features/functions.
All in all, i would recommend this camera to a first time user of digcams, who is not looking for anything fancy in terms of fiddling with manual controls- but would like an excellent point/shoot camera that can turn out great pictures nearly all the time
There is some red eye in the pictures, but nothing a photoediting program can't fix- price is more than some other cameras in this class- probably due to the ultracompact design which is really quite snazzy.
If I had the money for more than one camera, I would definitely keep this one since it's so small and convenient- but alas, I cannot- so I'm getting myself a Canon S45 :) Oh well....

this digital camera is truly...

Strengths: this is the third digital camera i owned. and i have to admit, it is by far the best camera i ever had. the pictures come out crystal clear. even the 8x10's are still very clear.

Weakness: not applicable.

this digital camera is truly amazing. the functionality and buttons on the back is self explantory. i am also so enthusiastic about the weight and size of this camera. they can sure pack a lot in a very small camera. i'm glad canon uses compact flash cards too. they're a lil cheaper than the other media cards.

I could decide between the Pentax...

Strengths: The automatic, therefore the picture-quality is great!!!! CF-memory (cheapest!) stabil body

Weakness: movie is limited to 3min. pretty expensive

I could decide between the Pentax Optio S40 and Canon Powershot S410.
The advantages:
- $100 cheaper
- unlimited Video
- normal batteries
- a bit thinner and really nice looking
Disadvantages:
- You have to buy rechargeable batteries plus recharger
- uses Secure Digital Cards that are more expensive than CF!

At the end the advantage of $100 is gone! The Canon has the big advantages "If the whole world says it's the f... best compact-camera it can't be bad!"
Dell had this one day-offer and so I bought the Canon for $320! That was a good deal and I don't regret it at all!
I made a picture of a totally dark room and it's awesome! The other day I saw a Pentax S4i (similar to S40) making problems in a dark pub where the Canon took best pictures.

Most of the time I will use the automatic, that's for sure and you can't beat the Canon since it's the champion for this discipline.

I totally recommend this camera...

Strengths: Feels solid and durable. Sexy clean look. Heavy enough to keep a steady hand during a snapshot and light enough to keep in your sports jacket. Menus make perfect sense after a month of usage.

Weakness: Didn't come with a case. Not too crazy about the software. Way too many manuals!

I totally recommend this camera for the average consumer. Pictures are awesome, I've gotten many compliments from all my friends that have viewed the pictures I've taken with this camera. Takes awesome pictures of sunsets! I use them as wallpaper on my pc and everyone loves 'em. The LCD screen works great. Get a case, I already scratched the bottom corner and with it's silver look, a scratch really ruins the sexy look - kinda like a run on a woman's nylon. After 8 months, I have no regrets.

This is the second digital camera...

Strengths: Nice camera! Easy to use... nice size fits perfectly in your shirt or pants pocket with very little bulk... and excellent picture quality.

Weakness: Feels a bit heavy and a little hard to grip.

This is the second digital camera I have own and so far, I'm impressed with the quality of pictures I've taken. Very easy to use and the rechargeable battery will save you $$$ in the long run. I have checked out many 4 and 5 MP digital cameras out there before choosing this one and I have had no regrets thus far... a great choice for a first time digital camera owner... Definitely highly recommended!

I own a Canon 10D slr, and wanted...

Strengths: Picture Quality Ease of use

Weakness: none

I own a Canon 10D slr, and wanted a camera to just take quick snapshots with. After a few days of research I decided on the S410. I was simply amazed at the photos right out of the box. The color and the sharpness were phenominal. I liked the pics so much I had them blown up to 11x14 and framed (no loss of quality going that large). To bad this sensor and this image quality dont have a few more controls, I would sell mY SLR.

It offers everything i am looking...

Strengths: - great small size with all functionality you need in a basic starters camera - can record movies - 1 button print - 4mp is great

Weakness: - lcd screen just standard --> i wish it was 1.8 instead of 1.5. - when you max out digital zoom it gets a little fizzy

It offers everything i am looking for in a simple starter camera. 1 press print button is extremely easy.. controls and functions are are basic, but that is needed for a camera in it's price range.. best deal for the money.. i highly recommend it for first time buyers

I just got this camera, it looks...

Strengths: Looks great, small and compact, good photo quality as well

Weakness: Steep price

I just got this camera, it looks and works great, and it's really small. Tried taking a few shots with it and I was pretty impressed with the photo quality and speed of the camera compared to other cameras I've used. However, I must say the price of the camera is pretty steep compared to other cameras with similar stats, so if you want the best bang for your buck, this may not your best choice (hence the four stars).

My last digital camera was a...

Strengths: Ease of downloading pictures onto pc. Comes with rechargable battery and nifty charger. 32mb compact flash card included. Great clarity in pictures. Very small in size.

Weakness: Wish it would have come with an ac adapter. Not thrilled with AC adapter (if you were to buy it). It does not just plug into a jack, but rather you have to remove the battery to plug in the ac cable.

My last digital camera was a Fujifilm DX-10. It is very basic and no real features at all. Uploading pics was extremely time consuming. Quality of pictures was lame. When looking for a new camera I wanted to be sure I bought something with a good zoom and good clarity. When I researched this time, I narrowed down my choices to those cameras that were 4 megapixels and pocket sized. I compared prices and reviews and found the Canon S410 to be my best choice.

I think there are no much...

Strengths: It is cute and handy. Operation is also very easy. Downloading is very convenient.

Weakness: The battery cannot last too long, one extra battery is needed. Also, the LCD is a little small. And there are no choice for the color. Charge is also not so convenient.

I think there are no much differences between S400 and S410. The 3* optical zoom is not enough, but for this price, it's normal:( I really hope canon offers black cameras for all series.

The Canon PowerShot has a 1/1.8-inch, 4 megapixel CCD and retails for US $399. As a still digital camera with hybrid capability, the Canon PowerShot S410 records video at 10 frames per second with simultaneous audio. Canon PowerShot S410

This is the near-twin of the five megapixel S500, with all the same features, but a 4 megapixel sensor and a list price that's $100 lower. While I'd expected the two cameras to shoot identically, I actually found the S410 had a couple of minor advantages that I felt more than made up for its slightly lower resolution, making it a great buy in a high-performing subcompact digicam. If you're in the...
