Strengths: AA-type batteries, RAW image format, manual focus, good control layout
Weaknesses: No image stabilization, electronic viewfinder, not very good night shots
Summary: If you're looking in the dSLRs and don't want to shell out all that cash, then this is a great prosumer/dSLR bridge camera. Although I'm disappointed it doesn't have image stabilization (there is an anti-blur feature but that just selects an exposure with a faster shutter speed), but for the amount of features and its price, who can complain? Pictures are of high-quality, almost as good or sometimes better than regular dSLRs. I also like the fact that it uses AA batteries, so in an emergency and I can usually just buy spares.

Strengths: AA batts! (Use rechargable nimh. I get 400+ shots w/ LCD panel off) Fast start-up; bright view finder/LCD panel; dual flash media; focuses in almost total darkness; hotshoe plus sync cord plug.
Weaknesses: Could focus faster but it's not too bad; could be easier to change resolution; should auto-detect dual flash cards and ask on screen which one to use, then switch automatically to other when full.
Summary: I really like this camera, especially with all the features for the price. In this class/catagory of camera it can't be beaten in my estimation. Obviously technology is advancing by leaps and bounds in the digital field. Five years ago, I paid twice as much for a 5MP camera, and now I've paid HALF as much as then for TWICE the camera with the S9100. Life is good. You can't go wrong with this one. It'll make you look and feel like a pro.

3 Star ReviewNot very good for fast action photography
Strengths: Light weight, bright viewfinder, feature packed, good zoom range, good battery life and easy to use.
Weaknesses: very slow focusing in both auto and manual mode. External flash not available in continuous mode. Slow to render shots even when using high speed CF Card.
Summary: This is an excellent camera for most general photography applications. The functions are laid out in a very non complicated way and very easy to access. The major failing is in the slow focusing. This becomes very evident in action or sports photography where you want to catch a specific moment or a sequence such as a basketball player blocking a shot or a dog catching a Frisbee. Also the camera is capable of taking 40 pictures continuously but you cant use the flash (not even an external) when shooting in the continuous mode not very helpful when shooting indoor sporting events. After shooting there is quite a long delay while the camera saves the image to the memory card, I use 100X high speed CF cards and it still takes as long as 25 seconds before I can shoot again.

I would reccomend this camera for just about anything except sports or action photography.

Strengths: Uses both compact flash and Xd type memory cards, super zoom, large footprint, aa batteries, 9 megapixel, great photo's, fantastic price.
Weaknesses: a little slow storing RAW photos
Summary: 2007-04-01 21:31:02 I got this $900+ camera for $399 and it was the best deal that I have run across in years. The camera features intelligent flash, 10.7 zoom (28MM TO 600MM), two types of storage (compact flash and Xd), fuji fabulous color, chrome color optional, multi-angle lcd (for high and low shooting) Because there's no need to change lenses, the sensor is protected from dust accumulation, a common problem that affects digital SLR cameras. This camera is probably best for an advanced amateur. Highly recommended
