Strengths: Sturdy Case
Weaknesses: Small LCD
Summary: Even though this is my first digital camera, it has proven easy to use from the onset. Shots are excellent even in low light with the use of the flash. The ability to store on both a SD Card and Memory Stick is an advantage of the camera. Another plus is the design of the case, which covers the lens when not in use. This eliminates the need for a lens cap. The case is durable but prone to fingerprints. For me, the largest disadvantage is the 30-second movie clip limit and the small 1.5-inch LCD.

Strengths: Size, material (strength), Startup Speed, point 'n shoot, SD/MMC & Memory Stick capability, built in speaker.
Weaknesses: Image quality on some images, propriatary battery, only 30 second video recording (cheaper models/brands have longer), small included memory card, no battery latch, Finger prints on case.
Summary: 2004-07-01 20:50:26 This is my second Konica/Minolta Dimage camera. I actually Purchased the Konica KD500z a 6 months ago, I really liked the features of the camera. Unfortunatly, the battery charger broke within 4 charges. I returned it and was going to buy it again but never did. When looking into it again I decided to get the Dimage G600 in its place due to the A*IPS, 6.0mp, and advertised or published capability of supporting 1gb Memory stick Pro, and 512 SD/MMC (at least).

The camera is able to turn on, Zoom (optical), focus, and shoot very Quickly. The advertised 1.3 second startup does not appear to be an "inlab test" used only for advertising.

The speaker is nice sounding, controls are very nicely layed out, and the feel is comfortable and "weighty". It does not feel like a plastic shell. Your finger prints show up easily, which is expected on brushed steel. (not that bad!)

The battery is propritary and hard to find a replacement, same with battery charger.

It has built in blue lights to indicate to subject when in focus, and when saving pictures (pretty).

I love the ability to hold 2 types of memory, and to be able to copy between them. An un-advertised feature of this camera is, you do not need to use the included software. Just plug it in to your USB and use it as an external hard drive! save any files you want to it! Hey, with upto 1.5gb why not?..

The Menus are a little hard to get through, advanced features seem burried. I can easily get used to this since I dont need to use the features alot (it does a good job as a point and shoot) and the 3 very common features (Focus modes, self timer, & flash setting) are just a button click away.

The 2 main drawbacks are in my opinion.

1) The Konica KD500z or Dimage G500 took very close to the same quality of picture. I do not believe that I see the difference in either the speed of the camera, or the quality of the shoot. The G600 does have MORE advanced settings which I did not play with much, so the quality may be there and I did not discover it. Basically the A*IPS does not seem important. Some pictures are not crystal clear as expected on either the 500 or 600. It is 6mp, and has a good lense, but still the images if not lit properly are fuzzy. (Thought thats what A*IPS was supposed to fix)

2) I dont see that huge of a difference between the G500 and G600. The IPs does not prove (to me anyhow) to be that great of a feature. The prices turn out to be close online so go with which ever you feel is to your advantage.

Final Conclusin:

I am satisfied with the pictures I am receiving from this camera. If theres a huge difference in price I would get the G500 and use the extra to purchase additional memory.

**Update**

The camera takes EXCELLANT pictures outdoors. I was only using this camera in low light conditions which it has some dificulty focusing, but has plenty of features to overcome. Also The Menus are proving easy to navigate.

Strengths: Picture quality is great. Pixel quality is very good. I can voom in a picture of the dog and count the hairs on his nose
Weaknesses: screen is smaller than it could be. Should be bigger. When I open the camara, I am affriad of smearing the lens
Summary: This thing rocks. Use is all the time in my real estate business. With a 256 card I get around 140 shots. If you need a second battery, go to ebay for cheap. I bought it at buydig. com. Very fast shipping and no crap.

Strengths: The pictures are of excellent quality. Very practical size - it is just the right size. The startup time is negligible.
Weaknesses: The battery does not last very long. You really need the second one. The software that comes with it is not very good. The memory that comes with it is not enough!
Summary: One of the main reasons I bought got this camera was because of its size. It really is very convenient for a camera to be this size - it can easily fix in your pocket.

The quality of the pictures is great.

Nice to be able to record video clips (even short ones).

Has many features but I have not learned them yet. oh! the manual can be improved too.

Strengths: This camera is an excellent purchase - very sleek and small. I love the 6MP punch this packs within such a small size. Also, an added bonus: two types of memory!!
Weaknesses: The only drawback that I have seen with the flash - sometimes it takes away from the image, making the end result a flatter image. Additional area for improvement: video clip time
Summary: Overall, I think this camera is an excellent purchase. From the moment I saw it, it was definitely the size that I was looking for. In addition, it has 6MP's worth of power, coupled with a rechargeable battery, AND two types of memory cards (which can be used together!!)

All in all, an excellent purchase.

Summary: The strip of flashing blue lights irritates the hell out of me. In a compact camera with limited battery power why add a pointless light show?. Blue lights dance on the front of the camera every time you turn on & every time you take a shot. No more unguarded shots of your kids (& even they will look at you & think, sad poser!) --- About as cool as fluffy dice. Ask at the shop if you can turn them off, I got to this page trying to find out if you can (may resort to hammer)

Shame it can't use normal batteries. It's power is quite limited & it runs out on holiday, you're stuffed. Spares are cheap on e-bay (but will you have them in your pocket when you need them?)(less than £10 in '04)

Ask the shop how many 6mp photos fit in 16mb memory, If supplied with that, it's laughable. Budget to add a 256mb to hold I guess 100 shots, some sound & a few 30 sec movies. (+£30 in '04)

The second memory slot inside is a great idea

I think it struggles to grab 6mp quickly, so camera shake can spoil the photos, but once you learn to take care, it's not a problem (the shutter speed & resolution are adjustable)

Dispute my moans I like the camera.

I'm trying to be imaginative with the neat zoom & pan feature on the small LCD screen ----- Photo timetables at the bus stop & read the times of the return bus. Snap pages of other peoples' guide books, reading them is fiddly but do'able. Even phone book size print can be readable later.

Great fun to be able to add sound to a photo or a 30 sec movie, adds a new dimension.

Pocket size & sliding metal case gives good protection without a case

buy it if the discount is big enough & have fun

Strengths: Excellent pictures, rock solid camera, excellent looks, light weight.
Weaknesses: Due to the steel body, the fingerprints are clearly visible and sometimes it looks dirty. But it is not something that I'd say is annoyable.
Summary: I've been using this camera for 4 months now and it has produced excellent pictures with great quality. The camera is compact and is very well designed. Menu feature is very simple and easy to use. It has an excellent startup time which is a cool thing. The battery life is good but I didn't like its proprietary battery. They should have given AA battery. I liked the button placement, although some may find this little small. Zoom is ok but they could have given at least 4x.

The outdoor pictures are of awesome quality while that is not the case with the indoor pictures.

I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a compact high resolution camera for mainly outdoor use.

Strengths: Dual memory card & stick, 6 megapixels, very compact, sliding on/off window, nice pictures esp. when I import to my apple to make a slideshow
Weaknesses: manual exposure is not still
Summary: So far so good. This is my first digital camera. I really like the size, there are a lot of functions which I have yet to explore. The pictures are very good, I have viewed them with the music and slide show.

Strengths: Small and compact, Good deal for 6 MP diital camera, Can use both SD and MS, Very quick startup
Weaknesses: Small SD memory included (16 MB), Get finger print easily, Slide open the camera is not easy
Summary: I was looking for the compact point and shoot digital camera for my wife to take pictures of my son baby and found this one has lots of recommendation. It startups very quick and small enough to put in your pocket. Taking pictures of the baby has to be quick in order to get the best moment. Minolta includes 16 MB SD memory which is nothing for 6 MP camera. Of course, you have to buy more memory. It takes both SD and MS which is very good. The camera gets finger print very easy and the slide door for open the camera is not practical like Sony and Olympus. I would recommend if you want compact point and shoot digital camera with the reasonable price.

Strengths: Very fast startup time. Versatility with SD or MS a definite plus. Pictures very clear.
Weaknesses: Easy to get fingerprints all over. Front cover is a bit tough to open at first (very secure). Expensive proprietary battery.
Summary: I had a 2 MP HP camera before, and my wife and I had decided to move up. I was hoping to find one that used SD cards, since my new laptop has a reader built in on the side, and because our previous camera had used them. When I saw the price for this one, I knew I had to at least check it out. I read reviews all over the web extolling its virtues, so I picked it up. So far it's been a blast to use, and has tons of features. The menu button is a bit on the small side, so navigation gets tedious, but that's not a major issue. I've also enjoyed using Memory Sticks with it, since several of the Sony products I own also allow me to use them. Win-win situation for me!
