Strengths: Ease of use, manual and auto modes, uses AA batteries, very little shutter lag
Weaknesses: slow flash recharge
Summary: I wanted a pocket-sized, compact, digital camera that had zoom and video capabilities, took AA batteries and priced reasonably cheap. The Canon Powershot A460 is all that. Very easy to use, takes great portraits and admirable movies. Also has a bit of heft to it. A great beginner to intermediate camera

Strengths: Great quality pics; Big LCD screen; Easy to use; AA batteries; Long focal range
Weaknesses: Not the smallest; Does not have rechargable batteries; Too many lights flash before the actual pic is taken; Tiny viewfinder
Summary: 2007-06-08 12:40:52 This is one of the best cameras for beginners in the lower price range. The pic quality is great, and the big LCD screen is bright and well-lit.

In spite of the varied features that it has, its easy to use. The handbook is also simple and easy to browse through.

The camera provides almost a macro mode where it can focus as low as 2 inches.

The 1/2000s shutter speed also means that you can take pics of a fast moving subject.

It uses the cheaper AA batteries (rather than the costlier AAA) which are also available everywhere. But it does eat a lot of power if the LCD is used regularly, and if the camera is used in the movie mode for too long. A better option would have been to provide a rechargable battery.

Once the user clicks, there seem to be too many flashes before the actual picture is taken. I have often had an experience when the subject thinks the photo is taken and they are ready to move after the first flash.

I wont say its bulky, but its certainly not the smallest, and does not fit easily in your pocket. I have seen smaller ones with equally powerful zooms and equally good pics if not better.

The viewfinder, although well placed, is too tiny and it takes a bit of getting used to peer through it.

When comparing consider the Nikon Coolpix 5600 and above and Panasonic Lumex series. Some Fuji FinePix cameras also seem to give a good bang for the buck.

Strengths: compact, lotsa features, nice photos
Weaknesses: uses AA batteries and no A/C adapter included
Summary: I wanted an easy-to-use digital for my Mom's first digital camera and this one fits the bill. Lotsa great features she can use as she gets used to the camera but easy enough to snap the travel pics without a lot of studying the manual. It even takes movies! It only comes with a 16mb Sd card so I got a Kingston 2gb SD card so she doesn't have to fumble around changing them -- they're small and delicate.

Strengths: It seems to be well built. The camera has a multilingual menu and it is very user friendly.
Weaknesses: Slow flash recharge
Summary: I bought this camera for my young daughter in France and she is able to use it with ease. She has sent some of her photos and they are grate - a combination of her abilities and the camera's features.

Strengths: Fast Shutter Speed Excellent Flash
Weaknesses: Flashless pictures a bit weak. Would prefer better aperture.
Summary: Overall, an excellent camera. Much better than my old HP. The pictures are clear and the camera is simple as compared to others which have too many options. Will stick to Canon.

Strengths: Zoom
Weaknesses: Not easy to shoot a movie
Summary: After losing my first Powershot A460 that I had for a year, I didn't hesitate at all to order another one. I still haven't taken the time to learn how to shoot movies, or use a lot of the features the camera comes with, but it's nice that they're there. I like how it tells you how many pictures you have remaining on you memory card and the zoom is great too.

Strengths: 1. Takes very good pics. 2. Shoots usable movies (640x480). 3. Uses 2 AA batteries. 4. good price.
Weaknesses: A little thick if nitpicking.
Summary: Easy enough for the beginner. Decent amount of features for a cheap camera, including canon's Asic II processor. Takes good pictures right out of the box, with a little practice it takes great pictures. Battery life isn't too bad. Suggest buy 1GB SD card and get a pack of at least 4 rechargeable batteries with charger.

Strengths: Easy to use, good software and good support.
Weaknesses: A little slower than I expected. Must get a bigger memory card.
Summary: I have had a Canon A410 for a few years and have been very happy with it. I bought 2 A460's for gifts. I installed 1 gig memory cards and tested both. The display is good, the pictures are good and it is still easy to use the different functions and download pictures. It seemed a little slower than the A410. (Could this be the difference between 3MP and 5MP ?)

Canon support has been very good. When some sand got in the mechanism of the A410, they repaired the camera no charge. It's a good point and shoot at a good price.

Strengths: Light weight, easy to use, makes nice videos and pictures
Weaknesses: AA Batteries - consumes too many
Summary: 2007-04-14 12:01:24 If you want to take pictures for fun, this is a great digital camera for a good price! I've bought the first one some months ago and I gave it to my mom who have zero knowledge in technology - and she was able to operate it! I bought a second one just now. The best thing about this camera is that I carry it on my trips and I am able to make many good quality, short videos (a good option for those who can't spend money in a video camera) and pictures with good resolution! It is really easy to download them in the computer too. You just have to plug it in a PC and press a button. Like all digital cameras that need AA Batteries, this camera consumes too many batteries, specially if you make movies and take a lot of pictures.

1 Star Reviewdon't waste your money
Strengths: 4X zoom
Weaknesses: pictures are totally useless
Summary: I wish I had read the review at cnet before I ordered this camera. Everything they say about this camera in the review is true. I can't believe a 5 megapixel camera can take such bad pictures. I couldn't even get a decent 4 x 6 print because the pictures are so grainy. I'm just hoping I can get my $ back. I can't believe Canon let this thing slip out the door. They should be embarrassed.

Strengths: Good image quality and cheap
Weaknesses: None.
Summary: I bought this camera for my work needed. I don't need high image resolution, but need image quality and cheaper. This camera fits most of my requirements. I have tried other brand camera with just a little bit cheaper, but the image quality is very bad, too bright. Now, I own three Canon digital cameras (G3,SD800 and A460), all of them are good. When I need to upgrade my DSC, I will first consider "Canon" again. It has good image quality even at low-end product.
