Good camera for general picture taking.

Strengths: Takes great pictures. Easy to use.

Weakness: Batteries are used up quickly. Lens cap.

I've had my camera for over 3 years and I love using it. Takes great pictures as long as there is not much detail to the picture as in fall foilage. After all it is only 2.0 MP! I find that it uses up batteries very quickly. The response time in all modes is slow and the camera will shut off for no reason. I comes with 8 MB card but that is way too small. You will have to upgrade. Has problems connecting to the computer in XP. Mostly minor iritations. I see that this is still available for sale at $399. Way too much $$ considering that other cameras have 5.0 or better for the same price.

Kodak DC3400 8MB 2X Optical Zoom

Strengths: Great picture quality. Picture preview.

Weakness: Connecting to PC. Time delay of shutter. 8MB stock card.

Great picture quality but limited zoom range.
If you buy this camera, you'll need to buy a bigger compact flash off the bat. I bought a 64MB card which can hold about 100 high-resolution pictures. The 8MB card is for emergency purposes.
If you have Windows XP, buy a card reader as well. The Kodak software does not work very well with USB connections. The Kodak camera does not work very well with XP. You can connect the camera to the PC once per boot. If you disconnect the camera after downloading pictures, you must reboot the PC before connecting the camera again.
I don't mind the lens-cap: you know where it is. I've gotten in the habit of holding in my right hand while taking the picture so it doesn't drop in front of the lens.

Kodak DC3400 8MB 2X Optical Zoom

Strengths: Great picture quality for the price

Weakness: Irritating lens cap, quirky operation, appetite for batteries

I've had this camera for about a year now and have used it quite a bit. While this is not a serious photographer's camera, it is perfect for vacation photos and the other typical non-pro uses. The picure quality is extraordinarily good and it's control system is intuitive and easy to learn.

Downsides: (1) That pesky lens cap! It's on a string and when you switch to "capture" mode it automatically drops off. This is fine but you have to pop it back on when you turn off the camera or change to another mode. (2) For no apparent reason the camera occasionally fails to respond to input. For example, when you switch it on nothing will happen. It will work on the second try. This may be a quirk in my particular unit and it has not been a major problem (but when I miss that million-dollar photo of a UFO landing I may have a different opinion). (3) As noted by the other reviewers this thing really sucks up the batteries, especially if you use the video viewfinder. I tried rechargeables but found that their life was much shorter than regular non-rechargeables so I switched back.

These minor annoyances are outweighed by the excellent picture quality and ease of use of the camera. I would recommend it to anyone looking for an economical way to take high-quality digital pictures.

Kodak DC3400 8MB 2X Optical Zoom

Strengths: easy to use. takes good pictures

Weakness: poor battery life. delay between time button is pressed and picture is taken.

I was very pleased with the camera overall. For the price I paid (around $350) it takes high quality pictures. A few weaknesses are that it eats up batteries and uses 4 AA batteries, making the camera itself heavy. The 8 MB memory card is too small for a trip longer than a weekend, and I wish the zoom were a little stronger. However, I bought a big memory card and a lot of batteries and took the camera travelling with me. The image quality was very high, the camera fit in the (very large) pocket of my jacket and I was quite happy with my pictures.

Kodak DC3400 8MB 2X Optical Zoom

Strengths: Ease of use--takes great pictures. I printed some with my printer at home and results are great. I use it on the good setting and I am having wonderful results.

Weakness: It eats batteries but I have 2 sets of rechargeables & my problem are solved.

I wish there was a case for this camera--seems like too mauch money to pay and not even get a case for it. I carry it around in a bag with a towel wrapped around it. I bought my camera from Don's Photo in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada and paid over $725.00 for it with $50.00 worth of batteries it becomes a pricy little thing. I feel that it is well made and handles great--downloads great also.

Kodak DC3400 8MB 2X Optical Zoom

Strengths: Very easy to use and download the pics off. I shoot almost exclusively at Medium quality and all my shots are great!

Weakness: Same as others - eats batteries. You'll need to buy 2 sets of rechargeables. When the low-battery indicator comes on, you still have a LOT of time left! Also, the autofocus is sort of slow.

Overall I really like this camera. I use it to shoot kart racing as well as all the family things. I have printed my photos myself and the quality is always great.

Overall - great point-and-shoot. Don't use with the LCD image on all the time. Autofocus is slow and you must pre-focus on action shots. Software worked the first time. Great camera at this price!!!
