Olympus E-100 RS SLR 1368X1024 1.51MP 32MB 10X/2.7X...Strengths: Camera is ideal for most sports, outdoor action especially. It can shoots 3, 5, 7.5 (default) or 15 FPS to catch great action sequences. With the pre-capture capability added in, shutter lag small Weakness: 1.3 Mega-pixel images, but image quality, color are excellent. 100, 200, 400 ISO; only 400 grainy at all. Highly recommend for web use; respectable for prints up to 8x10. Images are sharp, speed of motor drive definite plus. Can be had retail for $500 or less. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Olympus E-100 RS SLR 1368X1024 1.51MP 32MB 10X/2.7X...
Strengths: Dependable construction, low light shooting incredible with image stabilization. Great for news gathering, websites and sports sequence shots.
Weakness: Precapture sounds cool β but I haven't found it much use. Getting in and out of that mode (through the menu) is a chore, making it slow to get into flash mode, for example. Auto focus slow for sports.
I've probably shot at least 15,000 pix with my Oly, since July of 2002. Got it new on eBay for about $550 US. I freelance for a small town newspaper and have front-paged many times. I've also gotten pics in a national pharmacy flyer and use the stills as inserts in my wedding and grad videos. I also use it as a digital add-on (and as a Polaroid) when I shoot weddings with film.
I love the long (380mm), stabilized lens and the rapid fire mode for sports or other action sequences. (My favourite is 7.5 frames per second.)
In low light, such as at concerts or drama, the image stabilizer lets me shoot as low as 1/30th of second hand-held β as long as the subjects are still. Compared to a true SLR, it's incredibly quiet.
In dark situations, such as an evening dance party, the red focus assist light is bright enough to light up the subject in the viewfinder. It's not dead-on accurate, though, so shoot twice and keep the best.
If they ever do an update, I'd like to see at least 2x more megapixels, tracking autofocus for sports and 800 ISO or more.
If you want to see what it does for me, visit: imageevent.com/barstew... βor: hopestandard.com and view any pix with Barry Stewart photo credits.
A GREAT camera in the fixed-lens category, even after 2-3 years on the market.
