Sony DSC-P30 Cyber-Shot Digital Cam- Era 1.3MP...

Strengths: Very easy to USE! GREAT picture quality

Weakness: Battery life of AA batteries PLEASE READ BELOW FOR FURHTER INFORMATION ON BATTERIES.

For the price of this camera, it just can't be beat! It is so easy to use, and the picture quality is really great! Why pay hundreds of dollars when you're not going to get that many more features. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that if you buy this camera you also purchase the NP-FS11 rechargable battery, and the AC-LS1 adaptor/charger. Depending on wher you are buying from this will add $80.00 to $110.00 to the price of the camera, but at that it is still a great deal! You would spend more than that on regular batteries taking pictures at christmas. If the LCD screen is turned off you can get about 20-25 pictures out of one set of batteries. The memory stik that comes with the camera holds 58 pictures if you have it set on the smallest picture size and standard grade. The bigger the picture size and higher the grade, the fewer pictures that will fit on the memory stik. The adaptor/charger can be used without the rechargable batter (purchased separately) and you can plug it in and run the camera off electricity which is great for taking pictures anywhere there is a plug in. The cord is pretty long and this works well also. The adaptor/chager alone without the battery is about $30 - $40.00. If you buy the battery and the adaptor/charger be aware that the battery gets charged while it is IN the camera, it is really very easy also. Depending on where you buy you may have to know the product numbers for battery & charger as shown HERE NP-FS11 & AC-LS1. GOOD LUCK & HAPPY PICTURES!

Sony DSC-P30 Cyber-Shot Digital Cam- Era 1.3MP...

Strengths: Very good picture qua;ity, easy to use, extensive features for the price, fairly small and light.

Weakness: attached software has minor bugs, little support from Sony, short 3 months only warranty

Escellent digital camera for a price below $200. Very good picture quality. Camera has advanced features like bracketting, wite balance, variety of image sizes. 37 mm thread allows to use teleconverter 2x, 3x, and even 8x which extends the zoom to 6x, 9x or even 24x. You need to buy four NiMH batteries and charger for about $20. This will allow you to make more than 100 pictures. Do not count on alcaline batteries.

Sony DSC-P30 Cyber-Shot Digital Cam- Era 1.3MP...

Strengths: Easy to use, loaded with features, small size, uses memory sticks that have come way down in price, uses AA batteries.

Weakness: Battery life with regular AA's is short

The camera is easy to use and takes great pictures for printing up to 5x7. The size is great and easy to carry around. I have had a fair amount of experience with digital cameras to know that they can eat through regular Alkaline batteries pretty fast. I purchased a 4 pack of rechargeable 1600 mAh NiMH AA batteries for $12 and they get good life with the camera.

The memory sticks have come down in price and with the average picture size of about 330K you can get a lot of shots on a 64MB memory stick.

The animated GIF mode is a great feature to have (kids love it).

The camera has been reduced in price recently so now it is especially a good buy which is why I picked one up. It is a great camera to have to carry around with you every where you go.

Sony DSC-P30 Cyber-Shot Digital Cam- Era 1.3MP...

Strengths: Easy to use, nice features

Weakness: Memory sticks expensive, eats batteries for breakfast

Bought the camera then returned it for unsatisfactory battery consumption. Be prepared to spend another $100 or more for infolithium battery pack and charger and about $70 for sufficient memory to make owning the camera worthwhile.

Manual claims 2000 shots per charge, but that's at the camera's lowest setting with no flash and no screen, taking 1 picture every 3 seconds. Not realistic. 2 new AA batteries last 15-20 minutes.

Sony DSC-P30 Cyber-Shot Digital Cam- Era 1.3MP...

Strengths: Small in size. Easy to operate. Nice zoom with threaded lens for filters. Clear and bright LCD. Clip motion and video functions unique.

Weakness: Two battery system drains quickly even with NiMh batteries. Weak flash results in lower quality indoor photos. Info-lithium battery not included with initial purchase.

The P30 offers good quality images with a minimal learning curve. The menu system is typical Sony, and easy for new users to grasp. At 1280 by 960 pixels, it does well for prints up to 5 x 7 in size, and does very nice web images. The video feature is unique in that there's no limit to video clip times, meaning the larger the memory stick you use, the longer you can take video. A "clip motion" feature allows you to do quick animated gifs. Use NiMh batteries definately, but with this being a 2 battery camera, carry spares, as even they will drain quickly; an info-lithium battery and charger can be purchased that last longer, but it's another $99 in stores. The weak flash will be disappointing with indoor shots so make sure your subject is 6 1/2 feet or closer for better results. Overall if you need a simple camera with decent image quality, this is a good pic. If you want to do prints at 8 x 10 in size, opt for the P50, which is the same camera but a 2 megapixel (1600 x 1200 resolution) version.
