Canon PowerShot Pro 90 IS High-end Digital Camera

Strengths: As usual, great optics from Canon

Weakness: Slow start-up

Great all around camera. I'm using it professionally for landscapes & product shots, and it is excellent! Love the 10X zoom. Feels like a real camera, and a little larger so it is a bit more stable.

Canon PowerShot Pro 90 IS High-end Digital Camera

Strengths: Stability, Zoom, Resolution

Weakness: Slow start-up and cycle time. TL viewer dark, manual focus difficult

Have made great 11 x 14 prints. Love the versatility and stability of the zoom. Frustrating action shots, long lag between pressing shutter button and image capture. Batteries act mysteriously.

Canon PowerShot Pro 90 IS High-end Digital Camera

Strengths: 10X optical zoom, great software, thru-the -lens viewing, Panoramic mode is fun to use. Swivel LCD viewer

Weakness: extremly slow to start up, slow til next picture recycle time, though lens is good, but, it does show abnormal amount of PURPLE FRINGING in back-lit photos.

When I was researching digital cameras back in late 2000, I saw a lot of features that I would like in a DC from different manufacturers (Sony, Minolta, NIkon, etc.), but relizing that there is no one perfect camera out there I was about to by one that would almost fit-the-bill until Canon brought out the Pro 90S, This camera has a great 10X optical zoom, a swivel out LCD screen which in my opinion, is the best feature a DC can have, especially when your doing low angle or high angle shots and indoor product pics. I think more Mfgs should put this feature on their cameras. The supplied programs are A+ and the panoramic mode is a nice touch. As far as the lens, though, very sharp, it does tend to create a purple fringe on backlit scenes (such as trees) which can be very annoying. When contacting Canon on their on-line customer service and getting a response about 7-10 days later, they told me to bring it in to a service center
(I think it's more a bad lens design more than a service repair). As stated above, this camera is way too slow to start-up and too slow to recycle to the next photo (I've actully MISSED some good shots because of this) I suppose it might have something to do with the long focal length of the lens. I do use this camera a lot and. As stated before, there is no one perfect digital camera out there, but this one is close, Canon just needs to improve the flaws on this camera with a newer version and then they might have a PERFECT DC!!

Canon PowerShot Pro 90 IS High-end Digital Camera

Strengths: A great digital camera with full optical stabilization

Weakness: Higher priced than the competition

While this is a bulky digital camera with a weak macro capability, it does take excellent pictures and allows a lot of manual adjustments. It is easy to consistently get excellent 8" X 10" prints from this 2.6mp digital camera.

Canon PowerShot Pro 90 IS High-end Digital Camera

Strengths: Excellent lens, easy to use, excellent quality pictures

Weakness: only 2.6 effective megapixels on a 3.3 meg ccd

The 10x lens allows better framing of pictures than most cameras. The camera's weight and image stabilizer also help with quality long shots. No complaints with battery like I've heard on other cameras. If you are doing outdoor and nature shooting, this is a winner. The LCD screen is very good, flips 180 so you can get in pictures and use the remote to adjust the picture. The manual modes are very good and allow you to easily play with a variety of settings. I'm used to an SLR so the slower shutter speed and the time to start take a little getting used to, but are not major drawbacks. You can get the camera at a good discount on the Internet.

Canon PowerShot Pro 90 IS High-end Digital Camera

Strengths: Long Zoom, Good pic quality, easy to use

Weakness: Ummm. . .price, I guess?

Love it Love it! Great zoom, nice SLR feel, good controls (love the flip out LCD). It was between this and the G2 and the Pro90 won out because of the 10x optical zoom. I can still print 8 x 10 at home, so the extra resolution that the G2 would have given me is not missed! GO BUY ONE!!!

Canon PowerShot Pro 90 IS High-end Digital Camera

Strengths: Ease of use; great optics; image stabilizer; 10x zoom; ergonomics; image quality (although would like to have full 3+ resolution

Weakness: slow startup and lag time; limited macro

Excellent camera, especially for zoo shots. I have taken some outstanding pics of animals and with a bit of sharpening on adobe, 8x10 prints show remarkable quality

Canon PowerShot Pro 90 IS High-end Digital Camera

Strengths: *Super 10X Image Stabilized Zoom *Constructed Well *Good Ergonomic Feel *Feature Loaded

Weakness: *High Zoom\Low Light Focusing problems. Need to pre-focus often! *"Haze" in sunlight Shots! *BP511 Lithium Batteries only last 50-60 shots. *Set\Menu buttons could be moved-Thumb activates a lot! *Too slow-Not true "Point & Shoot"! *Colors seem

The Canon Pro 90IS Digicam has basically been everything I wanted in a "Super Zoom" all-in-one SLR style camera. The Image Stabilized 10X Optical Zoom is great and has given me opportunistic shots that I would have missed either due to the need for a tripod mounted shot with my A40 or acceptance of a blurred image! Even though it was discontinued, I still made the purchase for the overall features and have obtained some great pictures. Although most of my picture portfolio was taken with the Canon A40, my Pro90 gallery is also at:

community.webshots.com...

I am disappointed that Canon seems to have chosen to not to upgrade this camera. As a new user of the Pro90 and relatively newcomer to digital photography, I need to experiment and find solutions to the quirks of the Pro90. Thanks to all who have posted comments on the forum. Your successes (& failures) help a great many of us!

Ted

Canon PowerShot Pro 90 IS High-end Digital Camera

Strengths: All that a mind can imagine, tons of features, manual mode is fun to fidel with and learning is easy. Sharp 2.6 megapixs and basically all that you can expect of Canon Pro90 IS.

Weakness: A few lines on the LCD screen not so clear as my other S110 Elph. Slow continous shooting 0.7 fps. Wish this is faster.

Could not ask for more, i prefer this better than G2 cause it feels like a real SLR. Abit pricy but worth every penny. Canon a name to be trusted with it's camera. Certainly did not make a mistake in purchasing this Pro90 IS.
