Olympus Camedia C-700 2 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: Zoom Zoom, Exposure Settings allow shooting in dark even without flash, good image quality, colors end up the same, good white balance, makes pictures look really even even though its only 2.1MP

Weakness: Shutter lag, gotta wait 1/2 a second after you press the button for the pic to be taken, causes blurs because I move sometimes. Video can ONLY be 62 seconds, no longer than that.

Really nice cam, for the size, packing 10X zoom is awesome.. beats the competition at the price it sells for now, especially on ebay. In a previous review someone mentioned having problems protecting the lens, well they shoulve checked google for 'c-700 lens cap' www.olycap.com offers an amazing lens cap that will never fall off. You just have to be careful with it when you re shooting which I say should be too hard. The olycap also keeps all the dust out. All in all, if you want to get close to the action, without really being close, the C-700 will get you there, and with good quality and good price.

Olympus Camedia C-700 2 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: Numerous features.Great zooooooom.Perfect size.

Weakness: Some pictures are hard to see thru the viewfinder.

This is the best camera that I have owned.I have had this camera for over a year and still havent used all the available features. The zoom is fantastic, great for taking photos of the kids at play.I can print out 8x10 photos on my photo printer that look just as good as photos from a studio.I love the fact that you can see the picture you have taken in just a couple of seconds. The movie feature with sound is great, and if used with a tripod,is one unbeatable camera.

Olympus Camedia C-700 2 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: Great zoom feature, very compact, very good picture quality

Weakness: Slow on zoom and focus

Battery problems eliminated by using photo quality NiMH rechargeable batteries. USB data transfer is terrible technology... use a smart media reader... this will also save your batteries. Patience is imperative for good results... buy a large smart media card... use the press the button halfway to focus feature... take lots of pictures and delete the inferior ones. The ultra zoom features allow incredible framing capability.

Olympus Camedia C-700 2 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: Small, lightweight, powerful zoom, nice controls, usb storage class is cool.

Weakness: Electronic viewfinder is awful in low light. Focusing in low light is terrible. Chromatic aberration in bright light is bad. Hot pixels existed on two models.

I wanted a camera that would replace my $200 autofocus 35mm camera (also olympus) as a general purpose pocket camera. I also have a 35mm SLR, but did not expect this camera to replace that. I was going to get the 3030 or 4030, but was attracted to this model by the zoom. Overall, it does good work, but there are a lot of problems. It's great to have 'instant' pictures (the benefit of any digital), but other than it's zoom, my $200 automatic 35mm outperforms it in every way. I took flash pictures of a family gathering at Christmas, using a tripod, but they were out of focus - that's when I learned that it's autofocus is useless in low light (my 35mm auto camera uses infrared). I took pictures of a tree silhouetted against the sky, and learned about the chromatic aberration (purple fringing). I tried to take advantage of it's 16 second manual exposure (which my auto-camera does not have) with some outdoor night shots, but the EVF was too dim to show me what I was going to photograph. It has the 'specs', but doesn't deliver.

Olympus Camedia C-700 2 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: This camera takes the clearest and sharpest pictures! It is easy to use and makes anyone an instant photographer!

Weakness: You can lose the lens cap if you don't attach it to the camera. Screens can be a little confusing.

I love Olympus cameras. My first was a 35 mm and then a D-100 and now I have graduated to the C-700UZ. I couldn't be happier with it. I have a baby that I try to keep up with and I haven't missed a single picture thanks to this camera!

Olympus Camedia C-700 2 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: Decent image quality from 10x zoom to macro, large feature set, compact, fairly high capacity (128MB SmartMedia), comfortable, digital view finder, GUI.

Weakness: Chromatic Aberrations, camera 'charge' time, digital view finder, storage buffer, low light situations, CCD could/should be better for a camera with this feature set

The weaknesses can for the most part be overcome with just a familiarity of the camera and photography principals..

The digital view finder is a mixed blessing in terms of being able to 'view' exactly what you'll be shooting, however, necessary for digital effects such as the digital zoom, black and white modes, and navigating through the GUI without having to use the larger LCD..

From long exposure night stills to auto-x, the camera holds its own nicely.

Olympus Camedia C-700 2 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: 10X zoom, manual features, value for price, picture quality for a 2 meg. camera

Weakness: shutter lag, chromatic abberation

This is my first digital camera. I wanted it mainly for outdoor
photography. I went for the 10X zoom lense over higher pixels with lower zoom. The picture quality was better than I thought it would be. The shutter lag took some getting used to, but if you half press the shutter button first, it's managable. Chromatic abberation can be bad in high contrast situation. If it is really bad you can get rid of most of it on your computer. Overall this is an exellent camera for learning photography. It has everything you need at a good price.

I really like this camera. This is my first digital camera (moving up from a SLR) and I am very happy with it. I have all the control I want but I can also point and shoot.

Olympus Camedia C-700 2 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: The zoom plus the feel of the camera.

Weakness: Life of batteries

I did a lot of research before buying this camera as a matter of fact I bought a Kodak first. The Kodak that I purchased had the 3x zoom and I was very disappointed in shots of any distance. I took it back after one outing and that is when I decided to really get into researching my next camera. After alot of research I ended up with the Olympus C-700 Ultra Zoom. Of all the cameras out there the Olympus and Sony were the only ones that offered the 10x optical zoom. The Sony was alot more money and did not to me offer that much more camera. Olympus also has a very good rating on quality through Consumer report and I have no regrets.
I love it!! The picture quality is great and the zoom is unbelievable. My wife use to be the one that took all of the family pictures with her 35mm not anymore. I have no problem down loading the pictures and the options are fantastic with the camera.
The only problem you might have is when you take a picture you need to be still; some movement can cause the picture to be blurry. They have a model I believe it is 5020 that has a built in stabalizer but at the time I purchased mine it was not available.
I very highly recommend this camera and do suggest that if you do buy one get the battery charger and rechargeable batteries. It does eat regualr batteries fairly quickly but the recargeable ones seem to last longer. If you buy one you won't be disappointed.

Olympus Camedia C-700 2 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: Great telephoto capability

Weakness: slow to fire, must pre-focus

I have an Olympus C3000Z which I love and thought I'd get the C700UZ for it's zoom feature. I like taking surfiing pictures with having to go out into the water with a water-proof housing or using a big-bucks 35mm telephoto from the beach. This camera allowed me to HANDHOLD, SIT on the BEACH, and get great surfrider shots. A dream come true, but not a perfect dream. The autofoucus is annoyingly slow, so you have to pre-focus and then shoot the "instant" to get the picture- until I figured out that by setting the Manual Focus to just under infintity, I could shoot at will. I love this camera, but would like the same features in a 5+Mpixel model so I could print 11"x14" - I am limited to 8x10's with the C700 file size.
Here's a "snapshot" taken at least 300 yards from the subject, handheld, and set on automatic at full zoom with a 1.45 magnification telephoto lens- www.funphoto.com/image... - imagine the increased sharpness if I had used a tripod..... I use this camer 90% of the time, the C3000Z 8% and my Canon 35mm slr with its 28-300 zoom 2%. My only complaint is the fringing that shows up in high contrast images- nothing that Photoshop can't take care of with a little work. The c700UZ rocks!~ (for the price). Olympus service is excellent ( I had a dead pixel in the C3000Z and they fixed it- no problemo), battery life is reasonable (if you use the 1800MAH recharge-ables), and the camera is light and easy to use. Get one! You'll love it.

Olympus Camedia C-700 2 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: Great zoom for the price! Small and easy to carry! Easy to use for everyone and features for the more avid camera person.

Weakness: In low light hard to view image.

This is a great camera for the price. You can spend a lot more money for a high end camera but most people will find this one to be all they will need. The complaint about the lens cap is easily fixed if you will attach the lens cap to the strap instead of the place it goes!

Olympus Camedia C-700 2 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: 10x optical zoom, macro close focus, non-proprietary batteries, non-proprietary flash memory storage, variety of auto-focus and auto-exposure options

Weakness: Filter thread is non-std diameter, requiring at least a $30 adapter to add even a haze/skylight filter to protect the lens.

I have owned a C-2100 for 11 months, and I bought the C-700 for my wife about 8 months ago, primarily because of the 10x optical zoom lens. Lens protection is a must, and the lens cap keeps falling off. It is impossible to protect the lens with a filter, unless you add at least a $30 adapter, and I suspect that the adapter plus a filter would cause vignetting at the image corners. I could not get a straight answer from Olympus about the correct part(s) to adapt a filter to the threading - the answer changed depending on who I asked. The front lens element is now scratched. For the inability to protect the lens on a camera with a permanent lens, I rate this camera Not Acceptable.

My wife uses this camera primarily on auto-everything mode. She complains that it responds to slowly when she presses the shutter. The camera has to adjust exposure and focus after she presses the shutter, and that takes time. I recommend two ways to improve responsiveness: (1) use aperture priority or shutter speed priority exposure settings, and (2) pre-focus by depressing the shutter release halfway, then pausing until the moment is right, then finish depressing the shutter release.

If you shoot in low light and the auto-focus has not worked well, consider getting a C-2100 instead. It has infra-red autofocus assist and a red spot beam to show you where the infra-red is aimed. THe C-2100 is heavier and larger than the C-700. Life is a series of trade-offs.

Olympus Camedia C-700 2 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: the pictures are clear and there is a great zoom on this camera. i love being able to take so close in detail pictures.

Weakness: after 1 month of use the camera stopped working while plugged into my computer. i found out it was because the battery had died, after very little use. this camera eats batterys.

i would get this camera again if i had the choice...i'd just make sure i had alot of batteries stucked up. the pictures are great, and clear even though sometimes its hard to find what ur trying to take a picture of in the view finder, if there's not alot of light.

Olympus Camedia C-700 2 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Excellent all around camera. Awesome zoom and sharpness is unbeatable. Highly recommend. The movie feature makes this camera a lot of fun to use. You can use it totally in automatic or if your a tweaker, the settings allow for awesome adjustments. I just can't say enough about it. :)

Olympus Camedia C-700 2 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: Great photos, 3 image quality choices, size and the zoom capabilities. Take it anywhere.

Weakness: Eats batteries, get the adapter too, needed when working with images on my lap top.

I have used all types of cameras and this bad boy has replaced everything but my video cam. I travel alot and it has proven to be tough in bad weather and low temps. Very pleased with this equipment.

Olympus Camedia C-700 2 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: Incredibly high photo quality, world's smallest 10x size is very important. will not going to all the features most have already been listed.

Weakness: electronic viewfinder bad for night shots I use a small flashlight works for me. some people complained about image stabilization at full zoom I have no problem would suggest a tripod you are a senior

Ok it's been eight months now sense purchasing my Olympus C-700UZ I feel I can give a fair review. Before purchasing the C-700 I owned a Nikon 995 picture quality was good but the 995 had to be serviced three times in a six-month period. Frustrated I decided to trade it in on something else. Not impressed with the 4X optical on the Nikon the Olympus big fat 10X optical sucked me in. I thought this was to good to be true and for under $1000. This camera will amaze you with its incredible zoom and dazzle you with its astounding picture quality incredibly easy. The sales person recommended the 3.34.MP Nikon 995 to me for 8X10 photos. The Olympus C-700UZ 8X10 photos were every bit as good or better.

Olympus Camedia C-700 2 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: Great zoom, excellent picture quality, even with digital zoom.

Weakness: Electronic viewfinder somewhat difficult to get used to.

It took only a short while to learn to access the camera's numerous features. Almost more stuff than most would use. During the initial use, I am quite pleased with this camera. I was almost put off by Macworld magazine's comments, but I am glad I decided to purchase despite the negative review.

Olympus Camedia C-700 2 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: 10x optical zoom, fully manual and auto mode, full manual white balance and one touch white balance. USB autoconnect. NO vigneting, even when stacking 3 52mm filters. fast shutter speed.

Weakness: No lamp assisted focus. Hard to focus in low light. some chromatic aberation, but not more than the other big zoom cameras, and surely not more than the c2100. No image stabilizer, so might be difficult at full zoom for people with very shaky hands.

I have this camera for 1 month and half now and i am very pleased with it. I have no problem taking sharp shots up to 1/10 in shutter speed, at full zoom.

The manual white balance makes it easy to capture very realistic lighting in difficult light conditon, see my comparaison at

www.pbase.com/c700/nig...

The USB autoconnect is a charm to use and it make your camera as a hard disk, so you can access it via any software, no need for camedia. You can copy images back and forth between your computer and the camera, no need for USB reader.

The fast shutter speed makes it easy to capture fast action shots that are difficult to take.

So far i have not find any need for image stabilizer, as i can take full zoom picture at quite low shutter speed, handheld:

The colors are well saturated but still natural, excatly how it should:
