Pentax Optio SV 5 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Very small compact size. 5x optical zoom. Logical placement of controls. Includes charging cradle for camera and battery. Very easy to use and takes great pictures

Weakness: Charging cradle charges battery in camera first then switches (not simultaneous.)

Big improvement over S4 which I previously owned. Placement of controls is better and easier to access. User definable settings provide easier access to frequently used features such as WB, image size/guality, ISO, voice memo, etc.
The 1st camera I received worked for about 90 minutes and then just died. Swapping battery or recharging did not help so returned to store for exchange. New one seems to be okay so far but I had my S4 for almost a year with nary a problem. Hope this one is not more fragile.

Pentax Optio SV 5 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Small, light weight with great clear quality pics

Weakness: video sound is recorded too loudly.

Lite, machined precision look and feel, pocket size with 5mp and 5X zoom. Also had 30 fps video...differnet light metering option too. Easy to navigate menus and crystal clear pics with great color reproduction.
Also has pretty good recovery time between shots when you use a high speed SD card. If you want a compact package with a great OPTICAL 5X zoom and up to 5MP this is your camera.

Pentax Optio SV 5 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Small Size

Weakness: Shutter Lag Kills This Camera

I bought this camera because I trusted the Pentax name and I have a lot of experience with all sorts of Pentax cameras including the Optio S. When the shutter is pressed on this thing, there is at least a two second delay before the shutter clicks. Obviously, this much two long for anything but landscapes. So, Just forget about children, dogs or about any other moving object because the shot will be gone before the camera responds. I sent it back to the factory in Golden Colorado and I got it back yesterday, and yep, you guessed it, Nothing has changed.

Pentax Optio SV 5 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Very small - it fits in the film pocket of our old 35mm camera case.

Weakness: Doesn't come with an AC adapter - must be purchased separately. Seems slow to take the actual picture once the button is pushed.

This is our first digital camera, so my comments are based on limited experience. However, our research found that this was the smallest camera with at least a 5x zoom available. It's a plus to get both features in one camera. On the downside, we had to purchase a separate AC adapter since it wasn't included in the package - and we only found it online at Zipzoomfly.com. It seems there is a longer delay than some other cameras in taking the picture - specifically the Kodak EasyShare 7590. However, it is possible that through more investigation we might be able to turn off some features that could be causing this delay.

Pentax Optio SV 5 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: 5X Zoom, compact size, easy to use

Weakness: Slow shutter time, takes a long time to write the picture.

Overall, the camera's great. I bought it since it was the smallest camera with a 5X zoom. It's really easy to use. The only problem is that it takes a two seconds to actually take the picture, and another 4 seconds to ready the camera for a second shot, which I guess isn't too much of a problem since there are slower cameras out there.

Optio SV

Strengths: weight, size

Weakness: exposed LCD, camera dock bay

I like this camera due to it's compact size and stylish look. The negative is that you must recharge it on a camera dock and you have to purchase a charger separately if you want to use it while you are charging it. Overall it seems to have good clarity and ease of use. For the price and megapixels, I really can't complain
