Strengths: Full frame, Picture Quality, high dynamic range, build quality, battery life, large 3" LCD, live view, self cleaning sensor, 14 bits processor, dual CF and SD card support
Weaknesses: My unit arrived with small dust specs on the sensor, LCD has a light purple cast.
Summary: I did the jump from a Canon 20D to the 1Ds MkIII full frame and so far I'm really impressed. The high dynamic range on the picture is simply amazing. The camera is much heavier than the 20D but I actually find it more practical to use. I like the easy access to all major settings through. The dual CF and SD card support is very handy and even if I forget my main 4GB CF card I still have my backup 2GB SD ready in the camera. The battery life is also pretty amazing with close to 2000 JPEG shots on average. The build quality of the camera is also really good, this thing is built like a tank! But this being said I wish Canon could do a better job at Quality control. My camera arrived with dust spec on the sensor (I could see it by shooting the sky at f22) and was most likely not assembled in a dust free environment. Also the LCD has an obvious purple cast which is annoying. I wish I had a back up camera to send this one back to Canon for service... That's the only reason why I won't give 5 stars.
