Sony Cyber-shot DSC-707 5 Megapixel Bridge CameraStrengths: Excellent color graduation, brilliant lens, near-unlimited possibilities. Very good instructions. Macro abilities good. Weakness: Still prefer viewfinder as in SLR cameras. 16Mb memory stick supplied a unnecessary shortcut at the price. Holding the camera is a bit awkward, the release button could have been more prominent. I never thought I'd see the day when my trusty old Nikon F2S would be obsolete, but it seems to have come. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-707 5 Megapixel Bridge CameraStrengths: Picture Quality, Ease of use and focusing system! Weakness: dumbed down hot shoe This has a picture quality better then any digital camera that I've yet seen on the market. When you compare this to the Nikon D1X, it is capable of every bit as high quality pictures for thousands of dollars less. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-707 5 Megapixel Bridge CameraStrengths: The camera's automatic focus is easy and takes great pictures. The menus on the camera is easy to use and understand. I like the 5 mega pixels. Weakness: The Mpeg 320 by 240 16fps is good, but I wish that the camera would take 720x480 to make DVD Movies. But no still camera does. The manual is weak in how to use the extra features. Overall I am Really happy with the camera. I read the reviews that the camera has a severe white balancing problem, but I didn't find that to be a problem at all. You can control the flash to low, normal, or high. You can take night shots in the dead of night without a flash, but it comes out with a green like gray color at about 1 mega pixel in quality. If you are taking pictures of animal life at night or a spy camera, it is good for that. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-707 5 Megapixel Bridge CameraStrengths: 5X Optical zoom. Flexible point-and-shoot or manual control. Excellent, crisp photos. Fast focus, good write time. Easy to use menus and controls. Good battery life. Direct Windows XP compatible. Weakness: Limited capacity of Memory Sticks. Haven't found any others. This camera is INCREDIBLE. I actually bought a lesser camera, and took it back the next day to get the 707, which is the one I really wanted. I bough this camera to be my replacement for film cameras. This baby has great zoom capability, focuses quickly and takes SPECTACULAR photos. It is easy to use, the features can be very quickly mastered. I took it right out of the box, and did a full day of telephoto sports shots at soccer games, and the results were astounding. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-707 5 Megapixel Bridge CameraStrengths: Sharp lens and ability to focus in dim light. Weakness: Consistently underexposes in most conditions, especially bright, contrasty situations. Used it side by side with a Fuji costing 1/4 the price and in post production spent more time with Sony images. It's NOT a point and shoot if you want or need really great images. You can get them if you use the on camera controls and spend time with Photoshop. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-707 5 Megapixel Bridge CameraStrengths: Fast lens, 5x zoom , EVF, operates in complete darkness, holographic AF, excellent pictures, ergonomic controls, rotating lens, wide feature range, excellent build quality, long battery life, sound Weakness: Uses expensive Memory Stick cards with limited capacity, only 16MB card supplied, rather large and heavy, awkward shape for case, no PC control or user firmware upgradability. This camera is a joy to use. It feels good and gives excellent photos. There's so much in it that I'm still learning how to use it - not a camera for the technologically challenged :) 100% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-707 5 Megapixel Bridge CameraStrengths: The 5 plus megapixels allows me to make corrections to any errant photographs (except poor focusing). It's almost as good as a 35mm camera quality and feature wise. Weakness: I have to compensate for the white balance when using the camera indoors. The flash appears to "wash" out the subjects in the viewfinder however when I print them out they look normal. This is my fifth digital camera (320,1.1,1.3,2.3) and it's the best yet. I'm a manufacturer's dream since I always want to try new products. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-707 5 Megapixel Bridge CameraStrengths: Many fancy features Weakness: Serious white balance problem when flash used. Very bad service from sony I purchased this product and found that it has very serious white balance problem when flash light used. Sony knew this problem and developed a procedure to fix this problem. But the procedures they said are all deceits. They just paid the lip service. It will cost you a lot of time and trouble to deal sony service man. They defaulted the promised service and delivery date again and again. Do count on sony's service /repair department. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-707 5 Megapixel Bridge CameraStrengths: I like the zoom and the way it can focus really fast, It has a star burst that will allow you to take 3 pictures at once. This real cool. Weakness: The red eye reduction makes the object you are photograping stay still to long before snapping the photo. This is real hard to do with small kids. I love this camera. I purchased it for fun and it has turned into a hobby. I take it everywhere we go it has been wonderful to take pictures of my family. I am thinking about purchasing another one for ny neice who has 2 small children. If you want a digital camera this is the one to buy. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-707 5 Megapixel Bridge CameraStrengths: Picture clarity, zoom, resolution, swivel lens, double viewfinders. Weakness: Extra long lens barrel, no fluorescent white balance, flash somewhat too intense--causes washing out. This is my second digital camera, and I learned what I wanted from my first one. This was the right choice since I can't affort the C***n D60. The camera does everything well. Even the shutter lag can be turned into an advantage. Simply press the shutter half way to let the camera meter and focus, then wait for the right moment to snap the picture. The final press is instantaneous. This also allows you to meter and focus an object not in the center of the final picture and reposition the camera to fit the scene, then snap. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-707 5 Megapixel Bridge CameraStrengths: size, lens range, quality, ease of use, Weakness: none wonderful pictures, excellent product, extremely pleased with purchase. The camera has a large lcd viewer on the back, with adjustable brightness through the menu, I like how the lens and body rotate which allows me to view the shot and hold camera close to body to steady it for the shot. With 5.24 meg pixels, this camera should stay current for a while. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-707 5 Megapixel Bridge CameraStrengths: EASY TO USE. Weakness: BUY THE LARGER MEMORY CHIP FOR SURE. I wanted a digital camera with high quality results (like a 35mm) and i got it! I can zoom in on outfielder daughters playing fastpitch softball with the ball still in mid-flight, love the 1/1000th per second shot! Setup movies to high quality and it takes great mpg's with great sound! Uploads real fast to PC and the MGI Photsuite software makes it easy to touch up my little errors. Took 65 high-quality pics and made 3 high-quality mpg's on the 128meg memory card, kept 16meg for extra. Thanks Sony! 100% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Sony Cyber-shot DSC-707 5 Megapixel Bridge CameraStrengths: 5 Megapixel, 5x optical zoom, 10x digital zoom, threaded lens for add-ons (big plus) = Instant Gratification with 8x10+ perfect images! Weakness: Windows XP ready (DON'T LOAD THE DRIVERS FOR EITHER THE CAMERA OR THE MEMORY STICK READ/WRITER - Sony's CD's don't tell you that, but their tech support will.) Photo editing package is weak. Since the drivers are pre-loaded into WindowsXP, I shouldn't have installed the ones which came with the camera. Everytime I used the USB (either camera or memroy stick reader) the system would reboot automatically! Sony's tech support didn't have any answer for me besides a fresh format and re-installation of XP. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Weakness: lag time between focus and photo record (shutter) the 5 megapixels really make a difference when printing photos; even when shooting at less than the max 2560x1930 the photos are sharp and detailed when printed at 8x10 size. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-707 5 Megapixel Bridge CameraStrengths: Its not film. Weakness: Only that I didnt buy it sooner. Better than any 35 mm camera out there. This digital camera made me sell all of my 35 mm cameras. (7) I am so over film. The micro benefits that you get with film are so not even worth it anymore when you look at what you can do with digital. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-707 5 Megapixel Bridge CameraStrengths: Light weight - Easy to use - Controls handy in their placement - Short learning curve. The camera was easy for me to learn. It's NOT a 35mm camera, but a great addition to your photo needs. Be aware of the extras they don't tell you about, although YOU may not want or need them.(Separate battery charger - extra battery - extra memory - seperate memory stick reader). The price on Sony's carying case is overpriced in my opinion. I purchased a case elsewhere MUCH cheaper. I would purchase this camera again. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-707 5 Megapixel Bridge CameraStrengths: Very feature packed. Incredible info-lithium battery. great image quality. Weakness: Very few. Poor location of red eye reduction mode. Doesn't display picture info in quick review mode. A very excellent camera. It has taken a little time to get used to all of the features, but when I did, there was hardly a shot I couldn't take. Since it's not quite a pro camera, action photography is more limited but can be very successful with a few compromises. When shooting a gymnastics meet of my nephew, I often found my self in a dilema on whether to shoot in burst mode, knowing I would have to wait 30 or 40 seconds to shoot again, or to pick single, high speed shots very carefully. I decided to mostly shoot the single, high spped shots so I could shoot again in a few moments. I love the fact that your location in the menus remain when you come back to the menu again, so you don't always have to renavigate to an option again. This is great for quickly changing the ISO or switching between burst mode and single shot. Sony has obviously put a lot of thought into the details of this camera making it very user friendly. The design may seem a little wierd at first but when you go to use it, you find that it makes more sense then most camera designs. I don't think there is a better camera for the price. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-707 5 Megapixel Bridge CameraStrengths: Pictures better than most 35mm SLRs. Feature laden. Superior lens. Battery seems to last forever. I love the design, the large lens makes the camera easy to hold steady. Weakness: None to this point. After reading many reviews I chose the 707 as my first digital camera. Turns out to be an excellent choice. Even with all the features it's easy to learn to use. The price of memory sticks has just dropped dramatically and brings there cost more in line with CF and SM. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-707 5 Megapixel Bridge CameraStrengths: Excelent lense with great macro. Fast opporation as compared to Olympus E-10/E-20. Greta picuure quality (better then all of the compitition). Weakness: Factory recall, make sure to get one in a good lot. This is the best digicam I have owned to date. It beats the e-10 hands down for features. Professional 8x10 prints look perfact! The only drawback it the cost of memory sticks, something you should consider if you do a lot of traveling.... 100% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-707 5 Megapixel Bridge CameraStrengths: Excellent pictures when flash is not used. Unlike F505 this has a colored viewfinder.Night vision is great. Holo-graphic infra-red works fine. Weakness: Serious problem with flash photography. As mentioned earlier this camera had a software issue concernig white balance. I had to send my camera in for repairs. Sony fixed that problem. However I have noticed another problem. On an autoflash mode the flash pops-up regardless of the lighting condition in the room. If there is enough light in the room the camera should turn off the flash automatically. This never happens. So if you are using autoflash and there is enough light in the room, flash always comes no and this leaves orange and blue tints all over the picture. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-707 5 Megapixel Bridge CameraStrengths: Excellent Carl Zeiss lens; flexibility in Aperture, shutter and manual mode; quick auto focus Weakness: significant time-lag in flash mode. Memory stick is expensive. Thin manual. This camera affords me the flexibility of tailoring my shots for greater control or using auto mode for quick point and shoot at casual events. I like the solid all-metal body and the barrel lens rests comfortably in my hand with the thumb resting near the zoom control. The 5 megapixel is quite amazing for this price and the EVF tells me alot about the type of shot I would get using the experimental settings. My only quibbles are the time-lag when using flash (I often ended up with closed eyes or turned heads), and the expense of the the proprietary memory sticks. Otherwise, I have been more than satisfied with the results. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-707 5 Megapixel Bridge CameraStrengths: Great Pictures, excellent blow-up possiblities with 5MB to work with, great color balance, easy and clear menus, very flexible. Weakness: Have not found anything yet. This camera had a soft-ware problem when first issued in which the Flash mode creased blue edges to sharp lines. This was fixed and Sony did a full recall and installed a new firmware chip. My camera was not in this first batch, and it works great with no blue edges. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-707 5 Megapixel Bridge CameraStrengths: Great image Quality at 5mp - good lens and focusing system Weakness: Flash photography has a lot of serious problems This camera exhibits a lot of strange behaviors with the Flash system. In Manual Mode Flash the white balance shifts strongly blue as the aperature is closed or shutter speed increased from the default at F2 and 1/40th. At the defaults there is a lot of image bluring from ambient light as well as shallow depth of field. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-707 5 Megapixel Bridge CameraStrengths: Great lenses, sharp photos, Awesome zoom, best digital zoom compared to most other "name-brands", night-shot and auto-focus ability, great manual controls, great photo quality (good saturation rates) Weakness: bulky, non-intuitive placement of buttons on the lens "barrel", sony memory stick limitations (128MB as of 11/02), proprietary battery, very hard to rotate 90 deg. for non-portrait shots Overall the camera is top notch, the only real caveat is that there is a better version now available w/ the Sony DSC-F717 model (this one's the 707 if you haven't noticed already). 92% of readers found this review helpful. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-707 5 Megapixel Bridge Camera
Strengths: Reliable, fast, excellent macro capabilities
Weakness: Only 5X optical zoom, metering problems
Not the most user-friendly digital camera I've owned, but it takes the highest quality pictures. While I've generally been happy with it, it has a very annoying "feature"- when using the camera in manual focus mode, the camera re-adjusts the focus when you hold the shutter button down halfway, causing me to have to refocus every time.
All told, I would probably go with a different model if I had it to do over again. The picture quality is great, but this camera is not pleasant to deal with when doing macro photography or any kind of photography where you would want to focus manually.
