Olympus Stylus 500

Strengths: super large LCD, price, speed, easy to use

Weakness: xd memory...

This camera is a bang of the buck when it comes to super large LCD display. The speed is fast, and the quality is not too bad. I would recommend buying this. The only thing bad...just like others said, are the memory. if it uses SD memory, it would be so great!

Good 5 Mega pixels camera

Strengths: All-weather-proof, right size, large LCD, and easy to use

Weakness: haven't found yet

I like this camera better, compare to my previous Nikon. Its size makes it easy to fit to any common camera pocket. Its all-weather-construction makes me feel better to bring this camera to beaches or wet areas. Its LCD is really helpful. I haven't seen the weakness yet...but if I found one, I'll report it back.

Stylus 500

Strengths: Size, Screen, Dust and Water Resistant

Weakness: XD Media Cost

I actually purchase two of these cameras - one as a gift for my father in law and one for myself. The Stylus 500 is a reasonably price 5 mega pixel camera with an absolutely stunning 2.5" screen. I was a little worried that it did not have a traditional viewfinder but after using the huge screen I now realize it is really not necessary. The camera takes very sharp pictures with excellent color accuracy. I read all of the reviews on this camera and to my eye at least the pictures are excellent.

This camera is slightly larger than its competitors such as Canon which I also considered. As it is slightly larger I find that it is easier to hold steady and easier to use the buttons.

The video recording mode if great for doing video that you may want to E-mail but it does not replace a good camcorder.

Overall we are absolutely thrilled with this camera.

Great Camera

Strengths: Weather-resistant, Long battery life, Easy to view pics. on the LCD screen after taken.

Weakness: Sometimes hard to see the screen with sunlight on it.

I think this is a great camera for anyone looking for something for general purposes. I took it on a snowmobile trip in the mountains of Alaska and used it for 9 days with out running out of battery. Also used it in temperatures of 20 degrees below zero F. and it worked great. Handled snow well. I also used it on fishing trips and never worried about water ruining the camera.

Olympus Stylus 500 5 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Great macro pictures poster quality. Very easy to use. Selection of 20 scene formats. Great pictures at night and through the glass. 512MB memory under $80. Highly recommended

Weakness: Haven't found one yet

Unbelievable macro pictures of fish in aquarium. Pictures of fire at night are without streaks. 2.5 LCD makes such a big difference. Wanted to play with the camera for at least 2 weeks before I wrote the review. And so far loving it.

Olympus Stylus 500 5 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: * All-weather construction * Large 2.5" high-resolution LCD * Compact size * Olympus quality * Built-in protective lens cover

Weakness: The only possible "weakness" is that you would need to use Olympus's proprietary xD digital media format cards, which cost more than comparable SD media. Luckily, xD media is very fast.

Great camera! In this model Olympus has made some improvements to further speed up the camera startup time, which now takes only 1-2 seconds. The xD card format helps keeps image writing delay to a minimum, so you won't need to wait for the camera to finish writing SHQ image. Finally, the built-in lens protective cover is very sturdy, yet extremely fast: it disappears inside the camera body in a split second.

I am well pleased with the design of the Stylus 500 camera. It handles well enough to allow effective use of "Hail Mary" photography.

HOWEVER, the camera was bundled with software that is compatible only with Win98SE. Since this operating system receives little or no support from Microsoft, I have been running WinXP for a couple of years on all of my systems, both at the office and at home.

This means that I must either (a) return the camera for a competitor's model that includes up-to-date software, (b) dumb down one of my computer systems, or (c) purchase the correct software that should have been bundled with the camera in the first place. Each of these choices requires another expenditure of time, effort, and money to complete the Stylus 500 system.

- Five stars for the camera.
- Zero stars for the software.
- Two and a half stars overall.

Olympus Stylus 500 5 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Easy to use, quick-start guide excellent.

The Olympus Stylus 500 is the best digital camera I've ever used. This camera is easy to use, delivers in every area-quality, functionality, versatility. It has multiple settings for different needs and easy access to user-friendly menus. Excellent quality pictures, Pict-bridge printer compatible, huge 2.5in view screen and weather resistant. I have used this camera for indoor (graduation and wedding) and outdoor (sports and vacation in Key West) with equal satisfaction. The MOST amazing results using the 'sunset' setting on the Olympus 500. I had people stopping me and asking me what kind of camera I was using, because they saw the pictures on the large view screen and recognized the camera's merits even from a distance!

Olympus Stylus 500 5 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: All-weather design, large LCD size, conventional shape

Weakness: xD media price

Bought this camera for my parents. Large LCD and more conventional shape is big plus for them. Picture quality is good for the price. It would not replace hign-end camera if you are into high-end, but it is very good alternative camera.

Olympus Stylus 500

Strengths: User friendly. Large LCD viewer. Weatherproof. Small enough to take everywhere. Long lasting lithium batteries. All of my friends want my Olympus Stylus 500!

Weakness: No eye viewfinder.

My son recommended this camera for me for its simplicity and the "easy grab and take" compactiblity. After using it for a few weeks, it has definitley lived up to its reputation. The large LCD viewer is great. With my previous digital camera I had a very difficult time viewing because of the small size and fading of the images especially in the sunlight. The Stylus 500's veiwer is large enough to see without my glasses and the images are crisp, clear, and vivid even out in the bright sun. And knowing that the camera is weatherproof, I don't have to hold back from taking it to sporting events and other outings outdoors. I don't have to miss any "photogenic moments". The lithium battery relieves my worries of my batteries dying before my picture taking event is over. All of my friends are very inquisitive about my camera and want to get one for themselves.

Olympus Stylus 500 Digital Camera

Strengths: Crisp and large 2.5" screen, easy to use, all weather design, excellent build quality

Weakness: Some digital noise with indoor low light shots, advance manual is only on CD rom

This digital camera is very easy to use. The start up is fast. The day shots are great. There is noticeable digital noise when you take indoor low light shots. I would have prefered a slightly sharper image. The side door where you connect the cable from your camera to the computer is a little difficult to open.

Olympus Stylus 500 5 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Water protection; Big screen view; Smaller than other firms's products; Many choices on the photo model

Weakness: Storage memory is too small

Because of its powerful functions, it is very convenient for a new user. It can also take picture by using the underwater kit. I have been waiting for it since last Christmas. I highly recommend to buy this product for the beginning digital camera user.

Olympus Stylus 500 5 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Solid construction. Ease of use. Appealing profile.

Weakness: Bundled software is easy to install and use, including on the one legacy system that runs WinME!

- The Stylus 500's small size and rugged construction enables effective "Hail Mary" photography (similar to making a football pass of the same name).

- Easy to use. A degree in Forensic Science is not needed in order to understand and work the settings.

- The 2.5" display allows far-sighted people like me to use the camera without needing arm extensions.

- The Stylus 500 camera looks good just sitting there.

Fine camera

Strengths: High resolution 2.5 LCD, all weather design

Weakness: Flimsy body, picture quality is not good in low lighting, short battery life, no date imprint. No manual control.

I owned this camera for about 4 months before I lost it. The overall picture quality is good for outdoor. In low lighting, it does not focus well. The LCD drains the battery quickly. You should consider having a extra battery handy. The package comes with a CD, basic manual, and No Advance Manual. You have to print out the advance manual from the CD yourself. It is a fine camera, though there are better choices now in the market.

Olympus Stylus 500 Digital Camera Review

The Olympus Stylus 500, also known as the µ Digital 500 in Europe, comes to the market with a 5-megapixel 1/2.5-inch CCD and a TruePic Turbo image processor. This digital camera is very much built for the point-and-shoot audience with minimal manual control and 21 automatic shooting modes. Like the rest of Olympus' Stylus line, the 500 is weather-proofed with rubber gaskets and seals within its...

Olympus Stylus 500 Digital

The Olympus Stylus 500 Digital is the latest in that company's line of stylish, digital cameras under the Stylus name. Like the others, the Stylus 500 is water resistant, a feature I'd like to see in more digital cameras from other makers. In my book, this latest Stylus is the best yet, with nicer-feeling controls than prior models, as well as a beautiful 2.5" LCD screen that's viewable in...
