Nikon D100 6.1 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body OnlyStrengths: Ease of use. Compatability with existing lenses and SB28 flash. No useless video system. Weakness: You need a programme to work on the NEF (raw) files. Nikon capture should come with the camera. Having owned a F90X for several years it was very easy to understand the controls. Like using a 35mm camera. The flexibility in being able to change the ISO midstream is a real boon. Not having to change rolls of film, right when you need to take that all important shot.I enjoy using the D100, I wish I had of bought one earlier. 93% of readers found this review helpful. Nikon D100 6.1 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body OnlyStrengths: flexibility of use & it allows use of all nikon lenses Weakness: size & weight, but that's a small tradeoff for the flexibility of using all the nikon & 3rd party lenses Bought it Thanksgiving 2002 and haven't used any silver process film since. Put on an AF lens and shoot slowly, and it's almost foolproof. Just got the new 24-85 "G" lens and the show shoot is history. Don't look for the latest, Nikon seems to have gotten it right straight from the beginning. 75% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Nikon D100 6.1 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body OnlyStrengths: Easy, intuitive operation. Excellent pix. and software. Amazing battery life. Weakness: 180th x-synch speed should be 250 or 500. Screw-in cable release silly -- should accept MC-20 ten-pin. This is what I've waited for -- reasonably-priced digital body that allows me to use my many existing Nikkor lenses. They've done an excellent job. Easy to learn and use. Easy, good, bug-free software. Best flash-controls in the business. Optional SB-800 really completes the package. I shouldn't have waited so long. Very impressed. 70% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Nikon D100 6.1 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body OnlyStrengths: Ecellent Film like images. Marvelous Autofocus. Low Noise. Weakness: Smaller Buffer I had a chance to test Canon 10D with D100 recently. I found D100 much better in autofocus speed and performance mainly in low light situation. (AF assist was turned off). 80% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Nikon D100 6.1 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body OnlyStrengths: lightweight, solid design Weakness: white balance, autofocus response, ISO auto zone balance I've had the opportunity to use this camera and the new Canon 10D. While I'm not married to either of these cameras, I would give Canon the edge due to a faster autofocus response and their DIGIC processing chip. I'm not exactly sure how the Canon DIGIC thing works, but the same images come out looking better with the Canon 10D than with the D100. If you already have Nikkor lenses, this is the appropriate digital choice. If you haven't already invested in lenses, I'd suggest you look at the Canon 10D. 65% of readers found this review helpful. Nikon D100 6.1 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body OnlyStrengths: Easy to learn and use. Excellent macro ability. F A S T auto focus. Weakness: None that I have found to date Excellent quality. I use RAW format...You can change the white balance even AFTER you shoot. You can also change the exposure after you have shot. This makes it so very easy to keep from screwing up that perfect shot you may not have had time to set up for properly. 92% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Nikon D100 6.1 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body OnlyStrengths: Nikon reputation. Weight. Size. Battery life. Weakness: Durability - its no Dix or Dih. I don't mind lugging this camera up a mountain. Its so much lighter than a Dix/Dih. The 6 megapixel capability is incredible. 60% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Nikon D100 6.1 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body OnlyStrengths: This is the camera I've been waiting for. I'm able to use all my existing Nikon lenses, and it has all the SLR features that you expect in a Nikon. Weakness: The 1.5x lens factor takes some getting used to, especially since I like to do alot of outdoor wide angle photography, but getting an 18mm lens yields the same image as a standard 28mm lens. I've been using digital photography for about five years now, but always went back to my Nikon FM2 for any "important" photographic moments. With the D100, I can now stay in the digital domain for both casual snapshots and more serious photography. 91% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Nikon D100 6.1 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body OnlyStrengths: By far the best camera of this type on the market. Can use all of Nikons current lens. Very fast. Long lasting rechargeable litium battery. Weakness: Only weakness I could find is that the optional battery pack will not allow you to use rechargeable Ni-MH batteries like I use with my N80 and F100. Use two lithium instead. This camera is fantastic. I gave it the highest rating because it is impossible to beat for the price. The 1.5 lens factor makes all of your telephoto lens really reach out but also will increase your wideangle lens by the same factor. This will probably change in a few years so that a digital camera will be the same as your 35mm film camera. Extremely easy to use and understand. Another quality camera from Nikon. 70% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Nikon D100 6.1 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body OnlyStrengths: Easy to learn to use. I have the Nikon F-100 35mm. The F-100 took more time to learn than the D-100. It compliments the F-100 since the lenses are interchangeable. Weakness: The F stops and shutter speads are not interchangeable. I do not know enough about the mechanics and optics to understand the difference. I love this camera. It creates professional quality pictures that I have not seen with other digital cameras. The images on the screen in the back are also very accurate and compare to the printed version. It is the best investment I have made this year, especially since the stock market has been so poor. 56% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Nikon D100 6.1 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body OnlyStrengths: Solid construction, quick and sharp focusing in almost any lighting situation. . With the optional battery grip and two lithium batteries, you can shoot forever. Weakness: The white balance gets fooled on auto setting, using daylight setting seems to work best. This is my fourth digital camera. I was unhappy with my Dimage 7 because of its slow focusing and slower processing, and wanted a camera that would let me use my Nikon glass, focus faster and process faster, this is it. After using it for a month in every possible situation, i.e., portraits, landscapes, action, etc., the focusing is quick and the buffer allows you to fire 6 large format Tiffs at about 3 frames per second. This camera is well worth the price and the 300 dpi output in large Tiff format, lets me print flawless 11x14s. 67% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Nikon D100 6.1 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body OnlyStrengths: It is a Nikon, through and through. All my 35mm lenses fit and work on this camera. The image quility is as good if not better than the Nikon D1x and less than half the price. Weakness: The little issue of having to multiply the focal length of your lens by 1.5 is a pain. I had to keep my 990 just so I could afford to shoot wide angle and fisheye images when necessary. I do a lot of editorial shooting and sometimes I need to get a great shot of someone who has never posed in front of a camera. The ability to shoot a few hundred shots without having to change film (and pay for the processing) is a real plus. By the time you have shot thirty or so, they have forgotten about the camera and are relaxed. 87% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Nikon D100 6.1 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body OnlyStrengths: Familiar SLR operation. Works with Nikon AF lenses and flashes. Accepts IBM microdrives. Weakness: Gotta watch the White Balance. Auto WB is a little off. This is what I've been waiting for: a digital camera that allows full creative control while still providing me the instant gratification that only digital can bring. It only took me a couple of minutes to figure out the major controls and get out shooting. Being able to focus and frame through the pentaprism is sweet. This is the best of both worlds. I got the 24-85MM, f2.8-4, AF Zoom Nikkor to go with it and haven't looked back. 88% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Nikon D100 6.1 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body Only
Strengths: A natural move from a Nikon film SLR. Performs well under heavy use.
Weakness: Minimal dust protection
I purchased the D100 just a few months after it was introduced and with it, I bought the Nikon 24-85mm macro and 70-300mm lenses with the MB-D100 battery pack. Since then I have produced over 45,000 images without any problems. I am absolutely satisfied with its performance and the quality of the images produces. This camera provides enough options to challenge the most adventurous photographer. The consistent sensor field of view crop of 1.5x throughout the D series dSLR’s makes lens selection easier when shooting on assignment.
The on demand grid lines on the focusing screen is advantageous for anyone who shoots landscape and architectural images. ISO boost to two stops over 1600 ISO is perfect for concert photography and other low light situations.
The D100 has the feel of my professional Nikon film bodies and fits my hand in a familiar way. All the controls are easy to use without taking my eye from the viewfinder.
Since I purchased my first D100; I bought a Nikon 12-24mm, SB-D50x flash and another D100 with MB-D100. I like the added weight of the MB-D100 and the additional battery power benefit goes without saying.
The only reason NOT to purchase the D100 would be if you had enough money lying around to buy the D2X.
