Strengths: Picture Quality, Battery Life, xPicuture and Li 10 battery, SLR like features & exposure choices, Wide range of aperture choices.
Weaknesses: Poorly designed sliding door. I have 2 of these camaras and the doors have failed on both....
Summary: Olympus missed on this one, the Image quality in some 3000 images has been excellent in most all lighting situations, the battery life is awesome, the macro needs help, and low light is Ok in focus and quality, BUT, the sliding door is absolute junk. My previous D-400 and D-450 both died of lens failure after 5 years of very abusive use and some 30,000 images. They were both better in low light than the C-50, I believe due to a larger aperture lens. Aside from the door issue, there seems to be some intermittence in the zoom control as well, hummm...... Olympus repaired the door under warrantee, but as quickly as it initially failed, I am extremely hesitent about future durability. Unfortunately, the Stylus 400 that I purchased as an emergency replacement 1 day before vacation, while being much more bullet proof in durability, (the sliding door design is awesome) it is sorely lacking in image quality and functionality in comparison to the C50. Conceding the lack of durability and knowledge of where the design flaw lies, the C-50 does and otherwise excellent job in a traditional Olympus manner.

Strengths: Very compact for a 5MP high end camera. Plenty of settings for the folks who like to play around with the shot. Nice, crisp pictures. Fast shutter! Quick turnaround time between shots.
Weaknesses: Standard 32 xD photo card doesn't hold much with hi-res shots. You may want to buy extra.
Summary: 2003-12-02 18:19:21 After a ton of research (and a very disappointing Gateway 4mp), I bought the c-50. I love it! Most of the time I just point and shoot and the pictures come out very well. Nice to have a ton of features and settings if you like to get the perfect shot. USB plugs right into the computer and Windows XP loads them automatically. Comes with software but I never opened it. Be prepared to spend a few dollars more on a higher memory card, maybe an extra battery and a case. Small, looks cool and only weighs about 8 ounces. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Strengths: Attractive design, loaded with great features, long battery life, and very portable.
Weaknesses: So-so image quality, hard-to-use menu buttons, poor LCD screen, and sliding cover vulnerable to grit.
Summary: The image qulity is acceptable, but not as high as such a sophisticated camera should deliver. The ability to be able to personalize and save some settings is great, but why not make all settings saveable. Some of the ones that I use most often, such as image size and exposure compensation, are not saveable. Another problem is the LCD, which is useless in sunlight. To navigate through the menus on a sunny day, I better remember the menu structure and do it all from memory, otherwise forget it. Also, it's not very ergonomic.

Strengths: Attractive design, easy to use, very robust.
Weaknesses: no sound recording
Summary: 2003-10-20 08:33:29 I got the first one and compared image quality to my old 3 M Pixel camera and returned the same day!!!

However I really liked the disign and gave it a second try - the second one is just awesome: pictures are great, mechanisms work much better then the first one.

Bottomline: it is an exellent camera if no defects.

Strengths: Very long battery life, even with flash. Memory is very fast. Small and compact. Color is very true life.
Weaknesses: lens opens too slowely when cover is slid over, Xd memory is the newest format and as a result is more expensive than other formats.
Summary: This is my fourth digital camera and is the best, not only because it is 5 mp, but because of the features and color as well. The most comparable camera I have owned is the canon s230 which has comparable quality, but much lower resolution

Strengths: metal body, size, easy menu, lens protected
Weaknesses: battery and memory card opener plastic, average picture quality, monitor in medium and low ligth don't work
Summary: I bougth this camera for my wife, the sise and the body construction are good, the menu is easy to use, but i was expecting a better picture quality, i tested in automatic using 3 MP and 5 MP but the quality of the picture aren't better than mi FUJI S5000 3MP, i checked looking if something in the setup was wrong, but it was fine, definetily the picture quality isn't macthing with a 5MP camera, other dissapointed was the monitor, with a medium and low ligth almost isn't useful,OLYMPUS must improve the monitor in some cameras the same problem i had with a STYLUS 400

Strengths: Picture quality is awesome! And I love the compact size!
Weaknesses: The door to connent the USB cable is a little flimsy. Should come with an extra battery.
Summary: This is my first digital camera, but I think it is a wonderful camera!!! Before I got this camera I was using an SLR and would scan my pictures and the quality doesn't compare! I would definitely buy this camera again!!!

Strengths: Compact Design, Excellent Resolution, Easy Features, All Most Endless Options.
Weaknesses: Memory Card. It comes with a 32MB xD. Although the xD is one of the best cards on the market, the 32MB just doesn't cut it for me.
Summary: I have owned this camera for over 2 years and have had no problems with the FUNCTIONALITY. This camera is one of the easiest and fun cameras I have purchased. People with little or no experience can handle this camera and still get great resolution pictures. If you are looking for a camera to take pictures from week to week, or short events, This camera is Great! One thing I would warn you about is the Memory Card. There is nothing wrong with the xD's. They are the Best on the market. But, when this camera came out, Olympus was one of the first to make the xD picture card. This Camera doesn't support any card over 256MB. You will have to send your camera back to Olympus if you want more than 265MB. If you want to take more than 26 pics with their standard 32MB don't look over the 256MB. I found this out the hard way. Of course no one really ever talks about this so I thought I could save you 50 bucks or so.

Strengths: Small size; it'll go in a purse, pocket or hang around your neck. Sharp photos and excellent color. Battery lasts and recharges quickly.
Weaknesses: I have to be careful not to move the camera when taking a shot.
Summary: This is my 3rd digicam. I wanted something small enough that I could carry all the time. This is the camera for me. I took it on a cruise last week with a 256 xD card and never needed to change the card. Love the remote control when watching a slide show on my TV. Highly recommend this camera.

Strengths: Excellent image quality, my 7 year old son could use it w/o instructions. Easy to connect to TV and PC, good Documentation.
Weaknesses: none found so far, 1.5" screen could be bigger (but this would influence the long-life battery usage)
Summary: Checked through all the previous reviews:

- Red-eye: By using the (easy to activate) red-eye feature, excellent results are given by a double flash prior to the main flash.

- Documentation: I received a multi-language booklet shipped with the camera plus all on a CD.

- Closing mechanism: My child is able to handle it. So far it works ok

Strengths: compact, many automatic scene modes as well as manual control settings, easy use of memory card and battery charger, both NTSC & PAL TV, remote control for shoot and playback
Weaknesses: LCD screen hard to read in low light, be careful with lens cover door, so small must really concentrate to hold still when shooting, flash doesn't throw very far
Summary: When I was shopping for my first digital, I wanted (1)compact, (2)remote control and (3)NTSC & PAL TV out. Those three requirements led me to Olympus C-50. Digital photography has been great for me. This camera does just about anything I want. Great for traveling (although there are smaller ones now). Clarity is good if you can hold still. In dark museums and the like, you may need to suppress flash and set at fastest exposure speed with longer exposure times. Then with software brighten photo, but still it works. Sometimes I wish I could zoom in more than 3x optical. That'll be my next camera! I also added extra battery, card reader and xD cards.

Strengths: small size. has an attached lense cover.
Weaknesses: RED EYE--RED EYE--RED EYE--AND MORE RED EYE. no sound in movie mode. pictures cloudy when zoomed in.
Summary: I owned an earlier 1.3 MP version of this Camedia camera and was so happy with it that I decided to go with this 5 MP one. BIG BIG MISTAKE. My 1.3 MP never had red eye. I am sending this camera back. I am through dealing with Olympus and Office Max.

Strengths: small size
Weaknesses: It does not work. Unique, expenive batteries. The 5M pix is only in manual mode, which is not as clear as the auto mode with only about 1M pix.
Summary: Unlike the other reviews, we have owned this for awhile. The lens cover is a mickey mouse design that is doomed to fail. Ours came off and will not stay on. We sent it to get fixed and they say it was abused. Not true, and they admit they get them back with cover problems all the time.
