Sigma SD9 Digital SLR Camera Body Only

Strengths: Excellent image quality: true-to-life color and high resolution. Ergonomic design with almost self-explanatory controls. Outstanding engineering.

Weakness: Relatively low sensitivity of image sensor (ISO 400). No built-in flash, shutter causes slight vibrations (use tripod whenever possible).

As a Canon enthusiast who owns several generations of Canon equipment and lenses, the decision to buy a Sigma camera was not an easy one for me. But I was intrigued by the Foveon image sensor, and so I thought to give the SD-9 a try.
When the camera arrived, it was love at first sight: the solid feeling in the hands, the easy way to use it (like a familiar SLR camera with an exciting set of additional features) - and above all: the outstanding image quality.
We took pictures of a silver tea set - and in the picture, the metallic shine of the silver looked like the real thing. The SD-9 copes very well with high light contrast in the image - not as good as the best films, but better than most digital cameras.

At a price below $ 1000.- (with 2 lenses!), the SD-9 is a bargain.

Sigma SD9 Digital SLR Camera Body Only

Strengths: Image quality bests all other digital cameras

Weakness: Night shots

Given reasonable light, this DSLR bests all others in overall image quality with its 10.2M sensors and astounding sharpness. The best digital portrait camera in existence.

Don't be fooled by the camera's 3.5MP rating--that is non-interpolated--while all other digital camera manufactures, including all DSLRs, list only interpolated resolutions as their MP rating. This inflates other cameras' MP rating by a factor of 3 times relative to the SD-9, since they count each Red, Green, and Blue sensor as a sigle "pixel." The SD-9 counts a full set of three sensors, one Red, one Green, and one Blue, as a single "pixel."

Foveon.com claims the SD-9's image quality bests film for any given capture area, and approaches medium format film quality for enlargements up to 40 inches. Some report that sharp enlargements up to 8 feet on the long side are possible from the SD-9's interpolated 14MP output files.

The camera's software is the best available.

The SD-9 always works losslessly, so be sure to compare only RAW mode specs when comparing to other DSLR's operating speed and convenience of workflow.

Price is amazingly low for a DSLR with so many sensors, now below $1100 at the most reputable mail order houses.

Not the best DSLR for low light--low light noise and imaging point sources at night are weaknesses. Still, can produce very fine low light/night pics with experience.

Sigma SD9 Digital SLR Camera Body Only

Strengths: This is truly a powerfull camera.Very user friendly, manual very well written.Pictures are truly superb compared to standar digital cameras.many accessories are available.good computer supportsoftware

Weakness: Not cheap,Not point and shoot pocket camera, not for the technically challenged, uses ONLY proprietary accessories.

This is truly a "Top-of-the-line" New Technology, digital camera. The pictures are beyond beautiful. This camera combines the features of a regular SLR and that of a digital.IE..it uses a SLR body which means you can use many different types of lenses(SigmaSA).You must look into the viewfinder to see the picture being taken, but also to see the information on the inside info. panel. The basic cost of the camera does not include any lenses, compact memory,Batteries of any type, camera bag or filters. This is not a pocket, point and shoot.but if you can afford the best in digital and don't mind working with it you will be rewarded by pictures that are truly stunning.Do your research first!

Sigma SD9 Digital SLR Camera Body Only

Strengths: Picture quality and sharpness of details.

Weakness: Auto focus. Battery life if using the quick review or LCD display. Only being able to record in RAW, then having to download to the computer to convert images to a jpeg format.

This is my 3rd digital camera. This is my first DSLR. The Photo Pro software is great. There are several options to control picture quality. Then you can convert to a jpeg or a TIFF format after making any adjustments. I have had a couple of pictures blown up to 20"X30" poster size with good detail. But they were daylight pictures. Night pictures and bulb settings show lots of noise.(grain) I have a Sigma SA-9 film for night and low light pictures if necessary. The picture detail is great, and if your needs are for sharp details and color, you won't be dissapointed.
