Strengths: Great pictures, fantastic micro shots, lightweight, quick recovery time between shots, rechargeable battery.
Weaknesses: No viewfinder for outside picture taking, Lots of settings so be prepared to read the manual.
Summary: I looked at several digital cameras in my price range and decided this Nikon Coolpix 3500 might be just what I was looking for. I couldn't find any reviews on the camera so had to go with good reviews on the Nikon name alone. I have only had my camera for 4 days but so far I think it's great. The micro pictures are fantastic. Not sure about the swivel lens yet and how much use I will get out of it. Lots of different settings so the manual reading is a must. Was disappointed that it does not have viewfinder for taking pictures in bright or outside light. It is very lightweight so holding the camera while picture taking is easy. Anyway, I am looking forward to many great picture taking days ahead and if you are looking for a nice little camera that is affordable and takes great pictures then this Coolpix 3500 might be just what you are looking for too.

I orginally bought this as it was highly recommend ...
Strengths: Easy to Use without reading manual; Takes great pictures; good color; Very easy to download to a PC; Powerful features, if you read manual
Weaknesses: No viewfinder - a real problem out in the daylight; Cannot see scene or properly line up shot in bright sunlight;
Summary: I orginally bought this as it was highly recommended in reviews when it first came out. Obviouosly, it was before anyone realized the problems shooting in the bright outdoors. Nikon proposes a $10 clip-on to cover the LCD to view your shot. It is useless. We just returned from Arizona where we took over 120 pictures. The scenes of the mountains, Grand Canyon all turned out okay. Scenes close up of people or objects were cut off at the sides and tops because we could not see them in the viewfinder. I have given it to my son and family for indoor pictures of the grandkids and parties and am buying another camera.

Strengths: Compact size, able to fit easily into a shirt or pants pocket. Battery life is good, recharges in a decent amount of time.
Weaknesses: Low light usage requires the use of a tripod or setting it on something so there is no blur with your pictures. Once you realize the limitations it still works well. Must read the entire manual.
Summary: Overall it takes good pictures after you get used to the low light limitations. This is my first digital camera, so it required a little getting used to.

Strengths: Small Size
Weaknesses: Shutter Lag, No Optical Viewfinder, Unable to see Screen in Sunlight
Summary: I used my daughter's NIKON 3500 last weekend. It was a totally frustrating expereince. The viewfinder was useless in sunlight, the shutterlag made the camera useless for people shots and it was very slow to startup. Please do not purchase this camera. A total disappointment. Worse yet, I recommended it to my daughter based on online reviews. Watchout for many review sights. I think they're in the pocket of the manufacturers.

Strengths: Small,easy to use.
Weaknesses: A docking station might be useful to some people
Summary: This is my first digital camera and I have found the camera easy to use. The manual is clear. I had a little dificult figuring out how to load the battery and the memory stick. It also took me a few minutes to figure out how to delete a picture; however the buttons are fairly intuitive.

Strengths: Compact, rugged, great scene modes, battery life, swivel lens, bright display, *great* macro abilities.
Weaknesses: No optical viewfinder (takes some getting used to), low-light focus is so-so. Movies have no sound.
Summary: Got this as a first digital camera. So far i'm very satisfied. Takes great photos in good light, hard to get quick action indoors or at night due to slow low-light focus. Nikon software included is very good - the best included docs+software I have ever had on any consumer electronics.

Strengths: Awsome picture quality. Battery life above average. easy to use and transfer.
Weaknesses: uses slim rechargeable battery, costly for backup battery
Summary: The camera itself is exactly what i was looking for, small and easy to use. Most 3 megapixel cameras weight considerably more which turned me off. The zoom is above average. The only downfall is the nikon battery that comes with it. most cameras use AAA rechargeables. while this adds weight and size to the camera, it gives you the option to stop at a gas station and pick some up in a pinch. these batteries cost apprx. $30-$40 dollars. however you can take about 200 pictures before recharging. the benefits definitly outweight, i would gladly buy another for the price.

Strengths: compact, lightweight, stylish, very short distance for Macro Mode (Autofocus): 1.6 inches - infinity (W), 1 ft. - infinity (T), fast recovery time, white balence pre-set.
Weaknesses: Can't have the Macro Mode (Close-Up) with Custom White Balance TOGETHER.....hard to produce accurate color of flower
Summary: I still believe this is a good camera by itself. It is not difficult to operate comparing to Nikon 885. Yes, in order to get the most out of this camera, menu reading is a must. Also, I feel the recovery time between shots is faster than the old Nikon 885. However, I was try to find a good Macro mode digital camera (for flowers) with custom white balance setting (operating together...) and as cheap as possible. I guess I have to use software to correct the color, buy a Nikon 4300, or old Nikon 885 in order to get those features.
