Strengths: Size, batteries, features, construction, looks, price, memory
Weaknesses: A little slow on the shutter lag in certain modes, full manual mode chews up batteries fairly quick
Summary: 2003-09-30 16:54:46 This is my first digital camera but I have enjoyed photography for several years. I am not a professional, but am an above-average shooter and love technology. I searched for nine months for the perfect digital camera for me and there were a few models that really got my attention. However, the Dimage F300 (DF3) fit the bill perfectly. After six months of usage and countless pictures in every possible mode I have yet to be disappointed. The quality of the pictures is outstanding, the features are easy to use, and the camera is small enough to fit in the supplied Minolta belt pouch. SD memory is getting very inexpensive, so pick up a 256MB card with this camera. The DF3 is built very ruggedly. The lense operates smoothly and all the input buttons are easily used providing good tactile feedback. The mode selector dial works very well and I have never once had a problem with it accidentally switching on in my pocket as many reviews of the F100 have proclaimed. AA batteries are a treat in a camera this small as there are many manufacturers selling 2200 mAH and higher four packs with a charger in the $50 range. I have only been using the supplied 1400 mAH batteries and have not yet needed anything with greater capacity. Perhaps if I go on a long trip I may think differently about that. ;-) Enjoy the shooting!
