Olympus Stylus 400 4.1 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: water resistance, 4 megapicle, compact, comes with a carring strap. great pic,s even in the dark.

Weakness: would like to have a higher zoom, it only comes with a 16 meg xD card it has to be Olympus card, other cards will not work in Panorama mode. And the cards have open contacts.

Has very good color. You don,t have to charge the battery in the camera. You can us an after market battery. This is the best camera I have had yet.

Olympus Stylus 400 4.1 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Great look and feel. The camera is build very well, great, solid construction. Very compact. Awesome start-up speed, shot-to-shot speed is quick as well.

Weakness: Takes a little while to autofocus. Lacks manual features completely (can't adjust anything but White Balance).

This camera is great to take to parties or family affairs or anything of the sort. It's a great, quick point-and-shoot. The quality of the images is good, and the quickness of the camera is one of its greatest strength. Like I said before, the camera looks great as well, the silver face really gives it a nice look.

Olympus Stylus 400 4.1 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Good picture quality, small compact design, good value for money

Weakness: Small memory included in package

Overall this is a great camera to own and makes a great gift. The price was right expecially with the rebate. Olympus brand has always been good to me. Would like to see more memory included with the camera (another $50 for a 128mb card).

Olympus Stylus 400 4.1 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: It is compact and light weight. The color of the camera is vivid. If you choose the proper condition for taking picture for example cloudy day you can get great photoes.

Weakness: 16MB XD card is small. It is expensive to buy a 512MB XD Card. The video taken by this camera can not be more than 30 second and has no sound. The time for taking a picture is long.

This is a great camera. If you just need a camera which can take good picture it is a good choice. My wife and I like this camera very much because it is cute and cool. We took good pictures using this camera. Remote control is great, we can send our parents the pictures which took by ourselves. One function is Panorama, we are glad to use this function to try to take a big picture. It is so interesting. Overall, I recommend this camera.

Olympus Stylus 400 4.1 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Compact, solid quality feel and takes great pictures.

Weakness: 16 M bite xd card is too small to hold many pictures. Difficult to see small viewing screen in bright sun... a common problem with all digital cameras.

Since buying this camera I carry it with me much of the time and can pull it out to snap a quick photo. The wait time for the first shot is only about 1.5 seconds which is good for a digital camera. Further shots take about 8 seconds before camera is ready. Bought a small tripot and have take it along for interesting angle shots form down low. The small remote is handy for group shots which include me. I can stand with the group and arrange the people and then snap the photo remotely. Cool.
Bought a second battery from savin4u.com for about $15 with shipping. A great savings over the factory lithium selling for about $60. I wanted to have a second battery handy just in case the first ran out of juice at a bad time, like on a trip far from the AC mains.
I have gone to the local Sam's club twice to print 4X6 prints for 20 cents each. Pulling out the camera's xD card and inserting it into their scanner is easy. Cropping and selecting the size and contrast is easy, fun and quick. When done just push the print screen and wait 25 minutes and the prints are ready to take home and share/give away. Very fun and easy.
This is a great camera and a great price with the $40 rebait. The new model 410 is out to replace the 400 but it looks to be about the same but the video pictures include sound. Nice touch but unneccessary for me since I wanted a photo camera not a video camera.
You can't go wrong with the camera.

Olympus Stylus 400 4.1 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Very nice camera for the money. Small and light weight. Very easy to use. Excellent picture quality.

Weakness: Have not found any yet.

I picked this camera for several reasons: the size and the weight, the price, reputation of the company, the weather proof feature is a big plus for outdoor use. Downloading to the computer is a piece of cake, however manipulating the Camedia software is not the easiest I have seen. Overall this is a great little camera for the money.

Olympus Stylus 400 4.1 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: compact, pretty good quality, REMOTE CONTROL!!!

Weakness: warped view, annoying symbol on front, no audio with video, blurry without flash

Okay, I have a lot of things to say, but I think they're worth investigating. If you are looking for something you can put in your pocket, I think I'd probably recommend this camera, but if you don't need it to be compact, there are other options. My biggest peeve about this camera is that if you don't use the flash, even slightly shaky hands will cause blur. There's no way to manually adjust the shutter speed. However, I LOVE the remote, it comes in handy and very useful. To cure the blurriness problem, I just bought a miniature tripod, and that's been working out pretty well. I also received a 256mb XD card for my birthday, and haven't have opportunity to even fill it up yet, so purchasing a 128mb card might be best (since it only comes with a tiny 16mb card). The battery seems to last long enough for me, so no need for another. It's also very compact. One thing that gets on my nerves is the big olympus logo on the front. It does a great deal to increase the depth of the camera and I wish I could take it off, but that's just me. One nice feature is you really CAN manually focus....sort of. You just find something at which focus you want, and hold the button down half way to keep that focus locked, which seems to work for me. The LCD screen is nice, crisp and clear, its definitely good. I never find a real need to use the picture settings in the menu. Ummm, the video is a nice feature, I do use that once in a while. Although on high Res video, you can only take 15 seconds worth at a time, but on low Res, you can take 70 seconds at a time. Aaaand, I think the last thing I have to say is about the warped picture taking. For some reason, (the lens, I guess) when you take pictures, the corners get warped in. Nothing noticeable in regular pictures, but if you take a picture of graphing paper or something with lines, the lines are slightly bent in. Strange. All in all, I would recommend it as a vacation camera or anything of that sort. However, if you want some quality pictures and don't mind a bulky camera, there are better options. Thanks for reading all of this =).

Olympus Stylus 400 4.1 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Extremely durable, small & pocketable, fast for design, Olympus consistent function, cutting edge battery and card usage.

Weakness: Low light is awful both focus and picture quality. Issues with optics in wide angle shots. (perspective compensation)

I bought this camera in late September of 03 1 day prior to vacation as a replacement of a new C-50 that the slider door fell off after 6 months. (The C-50 replaced a 5 year old venerable D-400) At first I thought the Stylus 400 was the better of the two, but after some 2000 images, and switching back to the C-50, I have come to realize it is not. It does best in sunlight and augmented indoor flash (other lights on) at closer ranges, (auditoriums are undoable) but low light and no flash low light is tripod only, and no movement. The image quality really follows the light levels UNLIKE the C-50, which I have come to believe is an aperture issue with the 400, the C-50 has a faster lens. The Stylus 400 IS the ultimate on the fly pocketable point and shoot digital, we actually have 3, two Stylus 300's (college students) and this Stylus 400. SLR users will find it's limitations quickly but point and shooters, this is it. The xPicuture card and the Li 10 battery are huge huge pluses over the AA and SmartMedia of previous generations. The battery WITH the screen on lasts all day, It fits in most pockets, high quality metal, NOT plastic construction and completely Olympus in function, which is a really good thing!

Olympus Stylus 400 4.1 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Sturdy compact design, great photo quality, easy to use.

Weakness: Does not capture motion well.

This is a great camera. Not only does it look cool, but the camera is very easy to use with simple menus and commands. It also takes very high quality pictures. Very recommended.

Olympus Stylus 400 4.1 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Compact and easy to use, Fast startup

Weakness: Shutter speed for Action shots should be increased to reduce bluriness, read both xD and SmartMedia cards, use regular batteries not proprietary batteries

I owned this digital camera for about 3 weeks and in that time I took it on a weekend trip and a week long trip as well as used around the house. Still photos left nothing lacking, quick shots on a short trip went very well, but action shots left something lacking. Trying to take an action shot either of something moving or something stationary while you are moving (like from a car) leaves something to be desired. There was excessive bluriness on objects far away, where with my Olympus C-730UZ there was none. The proprietary battery (even though aftermarket versions are available) was a bad decision, granted space is an issue with this design, but standard batteries probably should have been worked in. The use of only xD picture cards is not a real problem, but for the price it probably should have included support for both xD and SmartMedia.

Overall a great compact camera for easy point and click, the onscreen menu was easy to use, the all-weather design worked for the most part until rain found its way to the camera lens. This one will work well for those quick weekend getaways and still shots.

Are we talking about the same camera?! My Olympus Stylus 400 uses a proprietary battery, NOT common, rechargeable AA, sure wish it did! Beware, this Olympus *does* use a proprietary battery (LI-10B) and charger (LI-10C), I own it too.

Olympus Stylus 400 4.1 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: The camera is very light and easy to carry in a pocket or purse. It's pictures are very sharp. The camera is almost fool-proof to use.

Weakness: So far, I can't find any weakness.

I had high hopes for this camera. I have had other Olympus products and have been very satisfied with the brand. This camera did not let me down. It offers the best of what a digital camera in it's price range brings to the table. You won't ever go wrong buying an Olympus.

Olympus Stylus 400 4.1 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: compact, humidity proof, easy computer like navigation, lense cover, self portrait/timer works!

Weakness: Buttons might be a bit small, but I dont care, I love this camera!!!

Had the Sony Mavica so I was used to a larger screen. But this camera is fab, so easy to use. I wish I had bought an Olympus first. This has been to the beach, and the park, in rain and shine. Its going to Sri Lanka next. Oh, and Olympus customer service actually e-mails back if you ask them a question!

Olympus Stylus 400 4.1 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Compact, good picture quality. The remote is very useful, you take a picture for yourself. Easily connected to a computer.

Weakness: no audio, indoor picture quality is not very good. 16 M xD card is too small.

A great compact digital camera with 4 megapicle. Perfect for outdoor pictures. Acceptable for indoor pictures. Remote control is very useful. Battery life is very good. But battery cannot be charged in the camera. Go and get a 128M or 256M xD card, you will love this little baby.

Olympus Stylus 400 4.1 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Lightweight, simple to use in basic modes. Faster recycle time than previous types of digital cameras Olympus battery lasts thru about 250 photos

Weakness: Another type of memory card! Uses proprietary battery only. Small buttons for menu control.

This is our third digital camera. It will be the last for a long time.
EXTREMELY LIGHTWEIGHT and easy to handle.
Takes GREAT photos (like most Oympus products), easy to use out of the box.
Has great array of shooting modes, with manual and camera set up types FAIRLY easy to use as needed.
Need to upgrade memory card ASAP (only ships with 16MB XD card). You should get an XD card reader, extra battery quickly, as this camera is SO easy to deal with that you'll be a "picture takin' fool" within a day or two.
Can't put this baby down!

Olympus Stylus 400 4.1 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Great outdoor picture quality. Nice Color.

Weakness: The picture colors are not good in the dark environment.

The best things of the this digital camera are its compact size, all weather proof and great outdoor picture quality. However, the indoor pictures are not very good. Sometimes, some dark yellow background may appear even if the flash is on. Overall speaking, this is a good digial cameral.

Olympus Stylus 400 4.1 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Sturdiness/water resitant, image quality, flash that is not overpowering, ease of use, very plug and play friendly, uses its own battery with charger, and excellent Macro capabilities.

Weakness: It's pretty small, no audio with recorded movies.

I work for a fire dept. and we were using too many disposable cameras that had marginal shooting capabilities, so we decided to use digital cameras in each of our front line engines. I will admit, I don't like little toy cameras, but this is a sturdy camera with excellent low light capabilites (arson investigation, car accidents)and image quality. You will not be dissapointed.

Olympus Stylus 400 4.1 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Compact, stylish, weather resistant; an easy to use point and shoot producing excellent digital images.

Weakness: Included editing softward doesn't provide for deletion of selected files from the media card.

The small size makes it handy to carry in a shirt pocket so it is available whenever needed. Connecting to the computer to download pictures has been flawless. The Camedia 4.1 software isn't as easy to use as V2.0, but does a good job. I wish the new version allowed files to be deleted from the media card as V2.0 does with other Olympus digitals. Its weather resistance is ideal for the SE Alaska climate. The battery seems to last quite a while, but a second battery and a larger xD card makes this little gem unstoppable in the field. .

Olympus Stylus 400 4.1 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Small size, all metal body, taking good quality pictures, weather proof

Weakness: little bit of noise in the picture, small buttons due to weather proof, not really great quality of pictures.

Generally it is small, compact size point and shoot style camera. It produces good quality pictures, however, it is less disappointing in picture quality when compared with other olympus digital camera.
For somebody looking little pocket size digital camera, this could be a good choice.

16MB XD card

Strengths: great price. good for backup.

Weakness: very small storage

It's a good product if you keep the pixl with the camera at the lowest quality setting. I would now purchase a 512MB or 1GB instead. They are geting better priced as time goes on.

Olympus Stylus 400 4.1 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Works well, good battery life.

Weakness: Focus is not. As other reviews have stated, without the flash on, pictures are very blurry. Not very good feature-wise.

This camera is decent for most purposes. However, I would not recommend this camera to anyone. The auto-focus is really bad. It always focuses on the object that is further away on close shots. Full zoom produces VERY grainy and "noisy" photos.

Olympus Stylus 400 4.1 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Very cute camera, and good qulity of photoes.

Weakness: A little bit heavy for its size. The original memory is only 16MB.

Generally, this is a nice camera for around $150. Both inside and outside photo quality are fine. But my battery life is not as good as I expected. And as I mentioned before, the original memory card attached is too small. I know I can purchase a bigger one, but it would be really nice to have a big memory at the beginning.

Olympus Stylus 400 4.1 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: 4MP, compact, great price.

Weakness: video no sound

I purchased this at a local OfficeMax. Spend only about 100$ after rebate. Really great deal for a 4 MP. And I like the compact design of the camera. The all weather feature is another plus for this camera. Highly recommend!

Olympus Stylus 400 4.1 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: great pictures (with lighting), sturdy construction/weatherproof, love the remote control, great small size

Weakness: pictures without flash come out blurry w/out tripod, lack of manual controls, and proprietary battery

So far, the camera has worked great. The small size is definately a plus because, as a guy, I don't carry a purse so it is real easy to carry on my body. The camera really feels like it is high quality because it is made of metal instead of plastic and doesn't feel like it will break easily. The remote control is a feature that seems kind of "too much", but its actually an awesome feature that I've found useful, more about this later.
This little camera does have cons of course. The first that that comes to mind is the quality of pictures in when you don't use the flash. Things really blur unless you are using a tripod and not touching it while shooting. A good remedy I have found is to set it up and just use the remote...fast and handy without using the timer. Another thing that makes this simply a point and shoot camera is the lack of manual controls. I enjoy tweaking my shots a bit, but it doesn't allow for much at all. The last weakness I've found is the proprietary battery. I have tons of AA rechargeables around the house and would love to just use them...but none of these weaknesses really break this camera.

Olympus Stylus 400 4.1 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Extremely compact. Great to use.

Weakness: Uses proprietary Li battery.

This camera is one of the best compact cameras on market due to its small size, impeecable picture quality. Only drawback would be the lack of an even better zoom. A zoom of say atleast 6 X on this camera would really have been a huge plus factor.

Olympus Stylus 400 Digital

Olympus' Stylus 400 Digital packs four megapixels and a 3x zoom lens into a small, very sleek case that's also waterproof. (!) The combination of an all-metal case design with extensive waterproofing means this is truly a "go-anywhere" camera. Oh - It snaps nice pictures too, with great sharpness and color and good tonality. Check it out!
