Strengths: Excellent photo quality, nice movie mode, lots of manual controls, uses AA batteries
Weaknesses: There's a bit of red-eye in "people" pictures during night shots. It's acceptable though.
Paid $326 in digitalmegastore (w/ tax and 2-day shipping). I badly needed that camera at that time.
Summary: Canon Powershot A60 is my first digicam and I am more than satisfied with it. The photos have very excellent print-outs, it made my old photos look bad. The night shots are also very good except that there are a bit of red-eye showing up in "people" photos. It's hardly noticeable because the overall quality of the photos are good. I think this can also be fixed using the software provided. The video mode is great, but not like the A70's VGA (640 X 480) mode. Videos are editable from the camera and the camera has a speaker. Watching my video clips and the pictures through the digital's LCD is definitely a blast. I highly recommend A60 to anyone out there who's out for a great value digicam. But I am upgrading to A70 in a few days because I want the A70's VGA mode and I may get to use its 3.2 MP. Luckily, my bro is buying my A60.

Strengths: Price / performance ratio, durability, image quality, features, accessories, battery life.
Weaknesses: accessories are pricy, amt. of pixels is "low" nowadays, shutter lag.
Summary: Most other reviews on here have hit the major points...overall this is an excellent camera. The images are very sharp with little noise. You can do full auto or manual shooting, with everything inbetween. Photo stitching works pretty good, and the movies, while small and somewhat choppy, are perfect for capturing the occasional clip. If you get prints made, 5x7's turn out great; you don't need 50 megapixels to get good photos...on the contrary, 2 MP is good enough for most people.
What I'd like to point out is the EXCELLENT durability of this camera. Shortly after I bought it (used), I dropped it about 4.5 feet onto asphalt, in the rain. I figured the camera was trashed, but after I picked it up, it was still on and still worked perfectly! Now almost two years later, it has a lot of scratches on the body from minor drops, and it has sand in the lens mechanism from frequent use at the beach. But this camera won't die. It still delivers flawless pictures.
The fact that it uses 4 standard AA batteries is awesome. My friends have other cameras from different manufacturers, and they either use 2 AA or some proprietary battery. They get about 1/3 of the battery life that I get with high-capacity NiMH batteries. Plus if I'm on a trip and need new batteries in a pinch, almost every gas station or store has AA batteries.
I also purchased an underwater enclosure for this camera, which works great also. Expensive, but top-notch. All of the camera's buttons and dials can be accessed from outside the case. And the manual white balance enables you to take great underwater photos.
Bottom-line: For the money, you cannot get a better digital camera than the A60 / A70. Period. Because of the “low” mega pixels, you can get this camera cheap.

Strengths: An economy priced great digital camera that you can grow with into the future!!
Weaknesses: Some access doors seem a bit fragile
Summary: When you consider BOTH the price and the quality, this is the digital camera that has it all! Yes, this is a 2.1mp digital camra! However, the quality and the sharpness make you think that this is a 3.1 or 4.0mp digital camera!
My husband and I are professional digital camera lecturers on board cruise ships. We speak to over 10,000 digital camera users each year! We have to admit that the Canon A-60 digital camera REALLY surprised us! The digital images are very sharp, the flash exposure is surprising, an the existing light images are right on the money!
This is one great digital camera! And, when you consider that it is LESS than a $(US) 200.00 digital camera, it represents a very GOOD buy!

Strengths: It's a nice and small digital camera. Awesome for a novice photographer, and what's great about it is that it prints out beautiful 8 x 10"s like the A70 would!
Weaknesses: Only two things wrong with the camera are the red-eye during the night shots, and the battery life. NiMH is the way to go.
Summary: What a wonderful camera. For 2.0 Megapixels, I'm definitely shoced at the quality that the prints come out up to an 8x10. Supposedly, the camera is supposed to print out up to 5x7s, but the quality on an 8x10 are the same from a 3.2 Megapixel would have. Awesome awesome camera!

 Overall it's a nice camera as a point & shoot. But ... Strengths: Price Tag!!! 2MP/3X optical zoom, Way more than enough user controls, good picture quality & really compact but handy as well. Great battery life with NiMH cells.
Weaknesses: ...Shutter lag! Light Metering needs improvement (though good for a point n shoot) Night focusing may be questionable though it's the only camera with separate Focus-Assist lamp.
Summary: Overall it's a nice camera as a point & shoot. But provided with manual controls, I wanted to try it as a professional version. Like mentioned above, You will get good pictures most of times, but have to be aware of time-lag when shooting a picture. So stay focused on price if u insist buying this one Or go for its higher version by paying few $$ more for more satisfactory results. But folks, I am sure it is the best camera for its class, no doubts.

Strengths: Gt. pt and shoot, lens adaptors, 12 shoot modes, std batteries, excellent price (275.00), easy to use, movie, zoom.
Weaknesses: accessories pricy.
Summary: very easy camera to learn to use. Software that comes with it is excellent... I am not a computer guru, but was able to get pictures out of the printer very easily. I bought the camera at a locally owned camera shop and they beat the Wal-Mart price and the local big-box store prices. I put a 256K card in it and never have to worry about running out of space. Zoom worked well so does the movie mode. If directions are followed the photos blow up very well. I am very pleased with the camera, it capabilities, its product, its ease of handling. I have used others and it is one of the best.

Strengths: Excellent picture quality, amazing price, robust features (manual control of aperture and shutter speed, manual focus, etc.)
Weaknesses: Shutter lag (only an issue when I try to capture my newborn's fleeting giggles and smiles)
Summary: It seems most people go for the A70 which I can only attribute to the lure of a higher megapixel rating (and the salespeople that use that rating to sell cameras). If you have an extra $100 to burn then go for the A70, but if you want the exact same camera for $100 less then buy the A60. You lose out on 640x480 movies (although the A70 still can only do 3 minutes at 320x240), slightly improved shutter lag, and, of course, another million pixels. You gain $100 to spend on much-needed accessories (e.g. higher-capacity compact flash card, or nimh rechargeable batteries w/charger) that would set you back even more. Also, I like the blue handle better. I haven't printed out any images so I can't attest to the A60's ability to deliver sharp 8x10's, however, that aside, I really see no reason to buy any other camera in it's class! In short, I love my A60.

Strengths: Variety of settings. Can be set anywhere from FULL auto to FULL manual. Up to 3 minute vids! Automatic lens cover. Good software package.
Weaknesses: Shutter lag. Fragile plastic doors for battery cover and card cover. Smaller video size (320x240) than A70 and higher models.
Summary: This is a good entry level camera. Impress your friends with longer vids and more dial settings than they have. Annoy them while you are pointing the camera at them in the video mode. :) Buy this one instead of the A70 and higher models and spend the difference on rechargeable batteries, charger, and a bigger card. I have the 128 card; I recommend you get a larger one for the longer vacations and the taking of many AVI videos. This is a good camera to grow with and graduate to a higher level model. It is the first digicam for me and its many settings and features gave it a higher learning curve but the results and versatility make it worth the study and trial shots. An added plus is the "my Camera" settings enabling you to load your own voice or other WAV files into it to take the place of the usual beeping, clicking camera-like sounds that other cameras are limited to.

Strengths: Easy to use, many different settings-excellent movie mode with sound.
Weaknesses: slow shutter speed on automatic, occasional red eye.
Summary: This is my first digital camera that i have bought a few months ago. Overall, i would rate it good value for the money paid. What i really liked and the reason why i purchased this camera, was because it had an optical zoom, something that i could not find on other cameras at this price point. another excellent feature is the movie mode--both video and voice, which is something else that i have not found on either cameras. The camera was definitely worth the money that i paid for it and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a camera in this price range.

Strengths: Great point and shoot capability, 12 shoot modes, auto focus and exposure, standard AA cells and standard Compact Flash memory, manual settings, not a bad price, usable software.
Weaknesses: Weaknesses: The battery and memory doors and rubber port cover are flimsy. The tripod mount threaded into plastic. Zoom control overshoots, Sensitive to shaking.
Summary: I am a photographic idiot. My ability to take pictures with this camera has vastly improved over my previous film cameras, but to be honest I probably take 10 really lousy pictures for every good one. I would recommend buying at least a 128 meg compact flash if you are going to take large high density photos. Use Pricegrabber to save at least 50% over retail. I would also highly recommend buying a 1 hour charger with at least two if not 3 sets of NiMH batteries. One caution, the low battery warning is very subtle. I have never noticed it, the camera just shuts down. Regarding the manual controls, one should realize that they are menu choices selected on the LCD screen which is difficult to see in bright sunlight, not knobs and levers. I doubt that selections can be made for a quick action shot. The good news is that in AUTO mode this camera is very easy to use and will take some really great pictures. Summing up, I am very pleased with this camera and would highly recommend it, but bear in mind I don’t have any basis of comparison. Buying today, I think I would go the extra 50 or 75 dollars and buy the Powershot A-70 for the greater mega pixels. However that opinion is only based on a fear that I may be limiting myself in the future. The A-60 far exceeded my expectations, and I have taken some really great pictures that can only be attributed to the camera’s ability, not mine. Regarding the 4 star rating, I don't think I am qualified to give a 5 due to my inexperience.

Strengths: more manual controls than anything in its class, zoom macro, Canon lens, digic processor, small, light, aa bateries.
Weaknesses: where's the TIFF?
Summary: Canon latest model, the A60, is another great camera. Inexpensive, high quality, loaded with features, and sure to be a hit with anyone who doesn't require a 3 MP or larger CCD, but wants to be able to point and shoot or take total control over the exposure process. This one delivers. With features like movies with sound, focus assist light, 2 inch macro with zoom, Digic processor for fast operation, expandability, 12 shooting modes, on and on. More features than anything in its class and more than most compact zoom digicams at any price point. Highly recommended. The 3MP Canon Powershot A70 is identical, with a few extra nice additions. How about a 640 X 480 movie mode with sound! The Fuji S602 is the only other digital camera with that capability. At twice the price of the A70!

Strengths: Very compact, robust performance (I dropped it ones, still works fine)! Many manual controlls, with 1850 mAh batteries it works very long.With 16 Mb CF card can shoot approx. 1min video with sound.
Weaknesses: Red Eye Reduction is real problem, I shoot my photos with RER , but there is no effect. Using software is a solution.
The Auto Focus Assist Lamp makes no difference on or off. AF works a bit slow.
Summary: 2004-06-11 04:40:31 Before I purchased this camera, I spend 3 months searching and reading user oppinions and I think I made a good choise.
Despite the weaknesses, I would buy again this camera because it's cheap, well built and good performance.
But most of all, there are many manual controls that can be used by a amateur like me to learn photography, from every aspect. Very good entry level digital camera.

Great camera, only problems I have is with the pla ...
Strengths: High resolution, zoom options, audio/video features, cropping.
Weaknesses: overpriced accessories, 320x420 video, plastic battery cover, underwater case ($259 transparent plastic case cost more than the camera)
Summary: Great camera, only problems I have is with the plastic battery cover, you would think they would have thought a metal cover will hold up stronger if the rest of the body is made of metal, and the power adaptor... Canon, $44 is way too much and it is way bulky this adaptor shouldnt cost no more than $15 (including s&h). What makes a great product are accessories that were designed well and affordably priced. I would have given this unit full rating if it wasnt for the overpriced accessories and that plastic battery cover.

Strengths: Compact, Easy To Use, Lightweight, High Quality Images
Weaknesses: None I Can Find
Summary: As the owner of a Canon G2 I am a fan of Canon digital cameras. I bought this for my wife as I thought she would use a simpler camera more often. Low and behold I use it more often then my G2! It fits in your shirt pocket, takes great photo's, and is a breeze to use. I upgraded to a 256mb compact flash which gives all the storage I need. Highly recommended.

 The camera its ok, but I wouldn't recommend it.The ... Strengths: The picture quailty is good. Price is affordable.
Weaknesses: It needs double AA batteries to power up. To avoid this problem you must purchase rechargable battery AA PACK. A/C adaptor and carrying case NOT included.
Summary: The camera its ok, but I wouldn't recommend it.The zoom not as powerful. Not bad for price but I recommned ALL of you consumers to go check out the Canon Power Shot S400. For a couple hundred dollars more you get a BETTER digital camera. Sincerely Tony from New York Siner
