D560 connects perfectly to any...

Strengths: Very good pictures for the price, compact, easy to use.

Weakness: Connection problem with computers using VIA chipsets on the motherboard. Camera and computer locks up. See "comments" for work-arounds and fixes. Indoor flash shots could be better.

D560 connects perfectly to any computer not running VIA
chips sets on the motherboard. If you are running a VIA-powered computer and many AMD systems do, you have 3 options.
1./ Send the D560 back to OLY and they will do a firmware
upgrade at no cost.
2./ Plug the D560 into a POWERED USB HUB.
3./ Obtain an XD card reader.

The problem lies in the fact that VIA has always had a power issue with their USB ports. They do not put out as much power as Intel, SIS or other chipsets. This causes both the camera and the computer to lock up. Disconnect the camera, remove the batteries from the camera, re-insert the batteries in the camera and the camera will return to it's
normal operation. The POWERED USB HUB work great and supplies more than enough power to the D560. I had this problem and tested it on 2 D560's. Both cameras reacted
the same way. OLY has been very co-operative with me and I
am keeping my D560 now that I know the cause of the problem and the fix. The D560 is great camera for my daughter and
is very easy to use. It takes great pictures for the money.
I so much wanted to like the Canon A70 over the D560 BUT
the A70 has a very small viewfinder, the pictures are soft and the purple fringing are 3 things I could not live with. The Oly cameras are supereior in these 3 areas. The only Canon that seems not to have these problems is the new Digital Rebel which I may consider for myself after owning
my Oly C3040 for 2 years - GREAT CAMERA!!

Very pleased with the D-560Z. Fits...

Strengths: Small, Lightweight, easy to use, Clear accurate photos, been a pleasure to use, produces excellent photos without the need to go to the highest resolution. Just a great picture from a small camer!

Weakness: Movie mode diffult to see when recording or not. Lots of footage taken of the ground.

Very pleased with the D-560Z. Fits in the pocket. Good battery life. Down loads are simple and the included software is easy to use. The colors are true and photos clear no matter what the lighting. A lot of camera for the money. The built in display is clear in sunlight and represents the photo well.

So far I am in love with this...

Strengths: The image quality is outstanding, I am in awe at the pictures I have taken (crispness, color, format). The size is just right to fit in your pocket. And the seemless 10X zoom is great.

Weakness: Having the lens cover control the on/off feature is a little annoying. And there is no delete button (menu function). Sucks batteries like theres no tommorow.

So far I am in love with this camera, I picked it up for $299 at a local retailer after reading a few reviews. I am somewhat glad that my old digital camera (Toshiba PDR-M4) broke because if it didn't I wouldn't have this great little camera in my hands. The compact size is a huge plus for those grab and go photo sessions. Also while the lens cover is a little annoying as an on/off button is does a great job of protecting the lens, much better than those internal lens covers. And an easy fix for the battery problem is to just pickup some nice 1800mAH rechargables and a quick charger. I've gotten 2-3 times the life out of those than standard AA Alkalines.

Strengths: I owned the model before this one, and I purchased it again after one of our children dropped it. It has lots of extra added features, you can create small clips. It is easy to use. It is compact.

Weakness: The olympus cameras tend to eat batteries.

I like the olympus products, I own a movie camera as well. They have lasted, and were easily repaired. Parts were easy to get as well. I loved my original camera. I borrowed several others before purchasing this one. It is easy to use, while having lots of extra features.

I'm very pleased with the picture...

Strengths: Picture quality, Ease of use, compact size

Weakness: Flash is a little slow between pictures at times. A little annoying waiting on the lens to retract and extend.

I'm very pleased with the picture quality of this camera. I had an olympus digital camera in the past so I was familiar with it's use and features. At times it seems that the shutter speed is a little slow. You press the button and it takes a few seconds for the flash to go off. It seems to happen when the picture is close up. Other than that, I found it easy to use and would highly recommend it.

i haven't used the highest resolution setting yet, but the color and sharpness are excellent, fun movie mode, but with no sound, and there is a $20 rebate,

Strengths: excellent picture quality. good price for a 3.2Meg digital camera.

Weakness: too complicated for a beginner. it will take many practices to be good. the worst thing is the battery life. it consumes too much power.

i would get the ac adapter so i don't have to replace batteries constantly. the memory card is also pretty expensive since it's a new design.

There was only one review posted...

Strengths: Best picture quality I have seen in a long time. Out performs some of its 4 MP competitors, such as Kodak and Canon and its only 3.2 MP

Weakness: Sliding door in front to turn camera on and off. But, not really a weakness, just a feature I wish was different. Picture quality and ease of use makes up for that.

There was only one review posted as I am posting this one. It was a terrible review of the camera. I have taken pictures indoor and outdoors and I can't seem to get a bad picture. If I could post pictures here, I would show everyone pics that this camera takes. Nothing like the other review described. They are awesome. I registered here to just post this review, that is how sold I am on this camera.

Trust me, buy this camera and you WILL NOT be disappointed. The color is so crisp and clear that the picture almost looks fake. I haven't seen any picture that looks as good as these, even with film camera's.

It is a hungry little camera. It like to eat those AA batteries like its not getting another meal. Not a problem though. Spend about $30.00 to get you a 1 hour charger and some NiMH AA rechargable batteries and you will have a blast with this camera.

Strengths: Very good camera. I did research before I bought it, and have had good luck with Olympus Camera's in the past. Very good picture quality and nice LCD screen.

Weakness: Battery Life is bad, need rechargable batteries. Lense cover on/off is annoying. Menu system is a little difficult to initially figure out. (Though I knew that coming into it.)

Overall I'm very happy with the camera. It takes better pics than I ever got with 35mm cameras. Also the after seeing my friends cameras am glad I have this one. This is a lot quicker than most of theirs.

This is a very nice camera takes...

Strengths: Very nice; nice photos, nice and small

Weakness: The zoom control was questionable in function from beginning, started to stick, sent in under the one year warranty, they are not going to honor the warranty

This is a very nice camera takes nice photos in brighter conditions but not very good in darker lighting. Size was very important factor for me, tired of missing shots because camera is too large and bulky to lug around. It became quickly apparent that this was not a very durable design. Initially very pleased I am now very disappointed, they want more than 50% original price to fix.

The price I paid for this camera...

Strengths: Picture quality is unbelievably good. Not difficult to operate but takes some practice. Viewfinder is excellent and is a way to preserve battery life.

Weakness: Battery life is not great, but much better then a Sony camera I have owned. Flash recycling time is a little long.

The price I paid for this camera was higher then at present. After using it, I believe I would pay even more for it. Pictures are great. Ease of use is ok after a little study and trial and error. I would advise anyone to purchase this camera.

I was totally amazed at the...

Strengths: General picture quality and color. Ease of use.

Weakness: Lens cover that turns off and on, large group focusing, night pictures, battery life.

I was totally amazed at the picture quality from this little camera, as were several family members and friends. Pictures I printed on my home printer on good quality photo paper were as close as you can get to regular film. I took this on a trip to Colorado, and am happy with the pictures, but was frustrated with the battery life and a problem of the camera "freezing up" - couldn't do anything with it,or turn it off,or take pictures etc. until I took the batteries out and replaced them (with the exact same batteries). Battery life indicator showed full charge yet. This happened 3 times. Also, in group shots (we have a large family of cousins that went on trip)it didn't focus very well on the people, and most of them are somewhat blurred(and not from camera motion). Have yet to use indoors with flash, but useless for nighttime pictures (ie 4th of July) Will have to leave that to my old SLR camera. For the price I am very satisfied with this camera for a first time digital camera buy. Not sure if I would purchase again, or go for a higher quality model. But I would recommend it to people looking for a camera in this price range. Just make sure you have plenty of batteries.

Weakness: terrible fuzzy photos...light off on most, and batteries didn't last long...would not rec.

This is the third and last digital camera ever from this company...the first 2 were in repeated repair - some for over 2 months,,,,and they could not be fix and hence were replaced...then the final replacement was the 560 - took it on vacation and came home to find terrible photos...bad lighting, fuzzy and out of focus shots---highly disappointing...And, the flash took too long to recharge to use each time,,,even with new batteries...don't buy

Olympus D-560 zoom

I have a 560 that will not retract lens. Intermittantly comes on when powered up. Is this the death of this camera? I believe it is a problem with the slide "on / off" mechanism.

By anonymous; - Dec 18, 2006

Doesn't last very long

Strengths: Pretty clear pictures, small and lightweight

Weakness: Autofocus doesn't work properly, sliding cover too slow, eats batteries like crazy, manual viewfinder now completely off somehow

I was initially very pleased with this camera, but its quality has severly deteriorated over the last two years. It now takes about 8 seconds just for the cover to open. I have always had a problem where if the autofocus wasn't happy, the camera would simply refuse to take a picture and would not be ready to take another one for several seconds, causing me to miss out on way too many great shots. Indoor pictures are not the quality I would like, either. I do not recommend this camera to anyone.
