great camera for those who don't want to think much

Strengths: perfect colors, easy-view modes, price, good software

Weakness: can't figure out how to get just-taken picture to stay on screen longer

got this for my mom who has arthritis, it is lightweight, and has a "bumpy" right side to grasp, makes it easier to hold. colors as lovely and true-to-life as my own older 4MP olympus. nice new feature is when you spin the wheel of modes, there is an easy to see display that changes with it on the screen, so you no longer have to squint at the icons on the wheel. also, the new Olympus Master software (not the camedia master) has a really great user interface, it stores pictures in an easy to navigate calendar structure, so if you remember you took pictures somewhere in mid-july, you flip the calendar to july and you see highlighted days that had pictures taken that day. also, the price can't be beat for a dependable true-color lightweight camera. it's very simple to use, but if you wanted to, you could go into manual mode and play with exposures and ISO's and whatnot.

recommend getting rayovac's special 15 minute recharger & proprietary batteries, to make the most of your camera usage, quickly.

GOOD

Strengths: 5.0 million pixels 3x zoom lens (38-114mm equivalent), 1:2.8-4.9 Automatic and Manual modes for full manual operation 15 scene programmes (e.g. Fireworks, Portrait, Night Scene) with help function and Function shooting (e.g. Sepia, Black&White) 4.

Bought this camera with a epson r220 photo printer.
I must say that Olympus have done a great job.The pre-set dial on the back makes selecting shooting modes much easier, with choices of Auto-shoot, programmed auto-shoot (where you can create your settings)Manual, movie mode (Quick Time movies with sound)self-portrait, landscape/portrait, sport, night scene, and landscape. The viewfinder (an rarity with point and shoot digital cameras these days), is a little small, but does the job. The screen is incredibly sharp and gives you a real sense of how the shot will turn out. It is very nice in the hand, and very stable to use (no more camera shake!) In short, a crisp, clean, sweet camera, and well-recommended.

Daily use small camera with high picture quality

Strengths: Easy to use and high picture quality!

Weakness: Using XD!

I bought the camera before Christmas! The price was very attractive for a 5 megapixel camera. The picture quality is usually pretty good! Plus, it uses AA batteries. So I can just bring two sets of rechargeable batteries with me and do not need to worry about the power. Great buy! Recommended!

A cheap compact camera

Strengths: light weight, easy to use, compact, many shots on AA battery

Weakness: expensive XD memory card, picture grainy in low light conditions.

This is not the top of line camera like Canon or Sony in its class. However, feature to price ratio for its class is above average. It performs well in good light conditions but picture is grainy with low light conditions. Otherwise camera is light and easy to use. I would recommend buying it if you get it under $130 or else I will go for something like Canon A510.

good 5 megapixle camera for a cheap price

Strengths: the camera is light, it takes a good 5 megapixel camera, it has a 12x zoom

Weakness: expensive xD card

the camera is a good 5 megapixel camera. it has a 12x zoom (3x optical, 4x digital) which is comparable with those more expensive. its picbrige compatible which means if you have a photo printer, you can doc the camera to the printer and use it to print right away. the only real downside to this camera is that it use an xD card. the xD card is really expensive compare to the SD card which most camera now use.

good point-and-shoot for casual use

Strengths: price, detail clarity, features & options

Weakness: zoom (3x optical/12x digital), sometimes grainy (read summary)

this is an awesome camera - my first digital one. pictures with a lot of detail turn out perfect - such as with flowers & stuff. however, even moderate ISO settings produce moderate grainy-ness. but it's nothing you can't fix with some photo-editing software (I use Jasc Paint Shop Pro 8).

it has 14MB of internal memory. not much, but if you turn down the resolution to 1600x1200, you can fit 27 pics on that. i got a 128MB xD card for mine, and at that resolution, it will hold 257 pics. other resolutions are 2560x1920 and 640x480.
it will also record movies. it has a built-in mic for that and you can also attach voice notes to pictures with it. however, movies can only be recorded at 320x240, at 30 or 15 frames/sec. at 30fps, my xD card will only hold about 3:10 (m:s) of movies. go down to 15fps and that will double.
it is also a little slow at actually taking pictures. the shutter button has 2 positions: halfway to get focus & exposure adjusted, and fully to capture. the adjustment takes 1.5 to 2 seconds to complete, but if you do that before you're actually ready to take one, once you push it all the way, it's nearly instant.

One of the best cameras

Strengths: Price is low, quality is high.

Weakness: Night scene mode is too slow. Hard to retrieve the pictures from pc as files are hidden.

This is really a good camera, cheap price, high quality, especially printing quality. Quick start guide is easy to read. The software can revise the weakness, such as the flash is not bright enough.

Good camera, decent price.

Strengths: Point and Shoot Digital Camera, 5.0 Megapixel, 3x Optical Zoom & 4x Digital Zoom

Weakness: (2) AA alkaline batteries

The new 5.0-megapixel D-595 Zoom combines the power of manual control with the convenience of an easy-to-use design for incredible results with individual buttons for shooting, reviewing & deleting images conveniently located on the body of the camera so that frequently used functions can be easily accessed. I just like it.
