Olympus 6020
Strengths: Great every day use. Easy settings makes it user friendly.
Weakness: Must charge battery whist inside the camers. I dont know if you can buy an external charger.
OK so I am an ordinary person who really enjoys photography. By no means am I an expert. My main use for my camera is taking pictures of my family, scenic shots and I really love macro photography, so I really needed a good all rounder. I also take my camera everywhere so I needed compact and sturdy.
I feel I have found that with this camera. It ticked all the boxes for me. I was a bit worried at first that it didnt have enough manual settings but it does really have enough to keep me happy. The photos are sharp and crisp and the camera responds quite quickly. The settings are easy to get to with a quick menu down the side of the screen. There are even more options available if you want.
The video (which is HD) is also easily got to for those moments you want to capture without too much fiddling around. There is a simple red button below the zoom in/out and it is one press start/stop. Easy.
I am also pleased with the prospect of longevity as I have had cameras ruined with just the slightest everyday use , dust inside the lens, small bang inside my bag etc. Good for me to throw in my bag and go. It means I will use it more often as it will always be with me.
The only downfall I can say is the process of charging the battery. As it comes to you ,there is no external charger. You must plug the power into the camera to charge it. For me this is time where I can not use the camera and also as all outlets are inside the case, the camera must lay open during the charging process. This leaves it exposed to dust, moisture etc.
But once that is done and the case is shut , all is well. and with no moving external parts there is nothing to damage.
I didnt really like the program the camera installed onto my computer. It really is too smart for its own good, with events, faces and places tags as well as comments and groups. But it is early days for me and, who knows, I may learn to love it as I get more familiar with what it offers. And if all else fails I will just un-instal it, so that is not really and issue.
Overall this is a great point-and-shoot camera for the everyday casual person. It has enough features to keep your photography fun and interesting. When used properly offers good longevity which gives you great value for money. I feel it is the best middle range camera that I have tried or owned. And with gimicks like the panorama shots and underwater photography I will be enjoying it for a while to come.
