SP-800UZ

Strengths: 30X Optical Zoom

Weakness: Shutter lag

On a recent cold night, I was taken with the look of the Empire State Building top which can be seen from my 12th floor Terrace in Whitestone, NY. There are some trees and building tops blocking the lower part so I went to a bit less than 30X and braced myself in the doorway to take the shot. HAND HELD! You can see the color on the Con-Ed smoke stacks at the river. I think the mileage involved is about 8 1/2miles as the crow flies.A shot like, that is a recommendation for any camera!

GREAT CAMERA

Strengths: Fast shutter for my kids games.

Weakness: none so far

I bought this camera for my kids baseball and soccer games. I know very little about cameras and this camera hasn't dissapointed me yet! Some of the shots have been awesome! I can't believe I took them! I talked my cousin into this camera he likes to shoot in macro mode. He is thrilled with his purchase!

Olympus SP-800UZ

THE GOOD: 2GB of built-in storage; one-touch movie recording; full, searchable user manual stored in camera. THE BAD: Soft, noisy photos above ISO 200; long shutter lag; ineffective image stabilization; no electronic viewfinder; poor battery life. THE BOTTOM LINE: If you care more about having a long lens at a low price than photo quality or manual controls, the Olympus SP-800UZ is an option.
