Good Family/Beginners' Camera, Simple Functions, Decent Photos
Strengths: Price, 5.2 Megapixles, 3x Optical Zoom, 7x Digital Zoom, In-Camera Redeye Elimination, Single-Button Video Function
Weaknesses: Battery Life, Size, LCD Screen, Flash Recycle Time
Summary: This camera was my second digital camera. It is very nice as far as price and picture goes. The pictures come out very clear but you would need to get an SD card because the internal memory will not hold more than 10 pictures. The functions are simple and ready to use. There is a single-button video function that takes long videos with audio. You can also add audio to still photos. The downside to this camera is that it uses a lot of battery. Do not use store-bought regular alkaline batteries as it will drain within 25-30 shots w/ flash. Please use at least a 2200 mah rechargeable battery. When using rechargeable batteries, you will find that you can get at least 150 to 200 shots, no problem. Still, the camera is a battery drainer. Also, the camera only tells you about low battery when it is low on battery. There is no battery scale on the LCD screen so you do not know when you would need new batteries. The LCD is enough for regular use to view pictures but I find it somewhat fuzzy in quality compared to transferring photos and viewing on the computer. The flash recycle time is longer than others and may not be able to take multiple shots within about 10 seconds.

Strengths: 5.2 mgpixels, compact, generally easy to use, overall very impressed
Weaknesses: lack of battery indicator, screen difficult to see in sunlight
Summary: This is also the second HP digital camera I have & replaced a 4.0 megapixel model. Software works very well with my current computer's operating system.
The operations manual provides good directions for using the various menus. I've included a couple images that were taken on a recent 3 day raft trip through Hells Canyon on the Snake River in Idaho.

I wouldn't buy if i were you
Strengths: easy function
Weaknesses: it breaks a lot!
Summary: I bought this camera almost a year ago and I am on the 4th replacement from HP. Thank God for warranties! Twice the flash broke, everytime I tryed to snap a photo it would say "charging Flash" and would never charge it no matter how long I let it go. yes I even used top of the line batteries and the problem persisted. The other replacement worked for a week and then the toggle keys went out on it. The worst part about it is HP wants to charge for overnight shipping with the replacement. I have spent a lot of time and energy just trying to keep this camera functioning so I can take pics of my first baby, let me tell you it is really frustrating when your child is taking their first steps and you can't take a picture of it. Very dissapointing when I spent 179.99 to have a reliable camera and it is exactly opposite. Save yourself the frustration and buy a different camera.

Strengths: seems solid. got it for $89.00 on clearance.
easy to use.
Weaknesses: blurry screen
Summary: I have used this camera for about a week now but I have mostly just played around and experimented with it.
The screen is very fuzzy when using as a viewfinder, but viewing photos on it is great. It is is a heck of a lot better than my other camera.

Strengths: compact, lots of print option, takes great photos, removes red-eye, picture bridge compatable
Weaknesses: I haven't found any yet
Summary: I love this camera! I upgraded from a HP 215, which is a 1.2 megapixel. I was amazed at how long the batteries lasted. My old camera took 4 batteries and after about 60 or 70 shots and a little previewing they were dead. This camera only takes two and I have taken over a hundred shots using the lcd viewfinder instead of the optical viewfinder and I've done a lot of previewing and the batteries are still going strong. It came with lithium batteries which last longer than alkaline. But the NiMH are the best and they are rechargable. This camera takes great pictures even at night under artificial lighting. I love the way it takes fast action shots and and there's no blur. This camera has lots easy menus which are explained right on the camera. Great camera for the price.

HP M417
Strengths: Compact /easy to figure out sleek design
Weaknesses: needs to have some way to recharge the battery ...book states with normal AA battery should be able to take 50-100 pictures but actually shut off / low battery after only 6.
Summary: Not yet sure if this is a keeper. Am still playing with the camera to get full features. It is a good camera for the pricepoint. At 5.2 megapixels you can't find too many others that are currently under $200.

Strengths: easy to use, good picture
Weaknesses: takes control from the user
Summary: definately buy, but check walmart first. I looked at walmart after recieving product and saw similar one cheaper. Perhaps lower quality, didn't look into it. They made me type 30 words.
