Weakness: None that I can think of.Unless u really know all the jargon of violet fringes or u plan to make a documentary on bats or owls there is no reason to complain....:o)

Attractive....very beautiful and worth every penny spent.I did lot of research b4 I zeroed in on this one and I think every brand has some plus and minus but in this segment the quality for my need is what matters and if I get added features with it then its a bonus. Now this bonus is a huge hamper in Exilim S500 as you get 33 modes so u need not know the nitty gritty of setting ISO or shutter speed and likes.
Allows u to customise the navigation button ..another plus.

I wrote the above stuff with 30 days of experience with my Exilim S500. Now after 6 Months and 3 holiday breaks later I change my opinion. I think not only is the product great and snaps fantastic in quality even the Casio after sales support here in UK is very good.

While on my holiday to Scotland I had fallen down with the camera in my hand. The camera was switched on and lens unit was out. After I got up I saw that the upeer half of Lens cover is not coming out.

This did not affect the picture quality a bit and so I could capture all the snaps nicely and once I was back I sent the camera for rpair to Casio Service Centre in London. They gave me online tracking number for repairs and as promised within 10 day I had my Exilim back with a brand new Optical unit replaced.

Those of you who have this as ur option and have any small thing bothering u. I would say stop thinking and go ahead buy it. By the way S600 is half a shade better than this one.

Long term review

Strengths: Battery life 500+ per charge. Continuous video for up to 2 hours Incredible durability. So many pre-set shot selections Price cannot be beat!

How can you have a "long term review" on a camera that is just been on the market for 8 months?

This is not an exaggeration:
I am an insurance adjuster and have used my Casio EX-S500GY since August 2005 and have taken over 80,000 pictures and 100's of small video clips!! I have worn this around my neck 10 hours a day/6 days a week for 7 months up and down ladders and have banged it into everything imaginable. Other than a few dings in the outer case, the thing still works like new.
I use a 1G generic card and I have never lost a picture.

Casio hit a homerun with this one.

Great Value and suits my needs

Strengths: Very slim with solid feel. Zoom while shooting Movies. Best flash of the small camera I tried. Good battery life. SD card. Adjustable Flash power.

Weakness: Lots of noise in low light. No viewfinder.

I tried the Kodak 550v which overall is a very good camera. Well built and very fast. My only problem with the Kodak 550 was the very inconsistant flash proformance. The Casio S500 was a pleasant surprise. To me it is the best value of the ultra slim / compact cameras.
The zoom while shooting a movie is a great feature. Menu takes some practice but easy to use.
I do wish the LCD quality was better but we all know that there is no perfect digital camera. When choosing a ultra compact it is just a matter if selecting the one wherein its features are the ones which you need and the weakness are the ones you can accept.

Sleek design and good pictures

Strengths: Very slim design - though not so light -, excellent large and bright screen. Good overall ease of use, particularly the "Best Shot" settings. Very good pics quality for outdoor use.

Weakness: Quality not so good when light is low (especially for indoor pics) --> lot of noise on picture

Very nice camera. Got it for my wife last christmas, and she - and all of her friends - loves it.
We're just back from a trip to Hawaii: the pics quality is excellent for the outdoor pictures (deep blue water and sky rendering). I am particularly surprised on how good the quality of digital zoom is. We used to have a canon powershot s200; pictures were really good with the optical zoom, but quite blurry with the optical.
Pretty much no difference between optical and digital for the exilim.

The battery life is awesome, you can take a lot of shots and review them on the large and bright screen before the battery dies.

My overall opinion on this product is excellent, and I would definetely recommend it for any recreational use.

Small and Effective

Strengths: - Compact Size - Quality Video - Excellent Pictures - Great Price

Weakness: - None

This camera is for those who want a small and compact digicam that they can take with themselves wherever they go. The picture quality is excellent for a camera of its size and the added feature of taking videos is also a major plus.

Only negative I can think of is the lack of viewfinder. But who needs it when u have a huge 2.2 inch LCD.

Great camera. Worth every penny.

Exiilim EX-S500 Camera

Strengths: Picture quality Video quality

Weakness: The needed 235 page manual is only on a CD. The supplied manual is only 19 pages. You may need a faster SD card if you are taking a long videos.

I have had this camera for 5 days. I find the camera very enjoyable. The pictures are of high quality. The videos are also of high quality. I need get used to looking at a screen instead of a view finder. I found the screen hard to see in bright sun light.

Fortunately I have access a duplex printer so I was able to print the 235 page manual from the CD. The manual is required to learn the features of the camera. The Basic Reference manual is only 19 pages long.

Deep in the heart of the manual it states if your memory card is to slow, you may lose some frames taking videos. I purchased a higher speed card and haven’t experienced any problems.

The USB connection works fine with Windows XP. The connection to a TV works well. Both the TV connection and USB connection are done via the cradle. I haven’t used any of the software supplied with the camera.

One minor problem I had was trying to open the door to load the battery into the camera. The book shows how the door opens and closed, but not how to unlatch it. It slides back and then opens.

I have and 6.3 mega pixel SLR camera and an 8mm digital Camcorder. This camera will fill in nicely when I need something easier to carry.

Great camera

Strengths: size. style. compact body. seems durable. quality of the pics.

Weakness: noice at low light level. red eyes problem. flash not enough powerful.

This is a great buy ! I hesitated between the Pentax s5z, the Sony T7 and the Canon SD400... but I finally chose the Casio, despite its price, as a best bet !

Casio EX-S500

Strengths: Very thin and compact. Big LCD screen. Included docking cradle is very convenient.

Weakness: No viewfinder. No paper product manual (only on CD on PDF file). Lack of manual functions. Have to bring cradle if traveling to charge camera or buy a travel charger.

I bought this camera for my wife to use. She loves the fact that it is very small and has that "wow" factor. Overall the quality of the pictures if pretty good. I don't have any complaints about the pictures, but then again, we're not talking professional photography here. It is a great camera for someone who wants a compact camera with decent features and doesn't care about a viewfinder or manual features. I like a couple of the unique features of this camera, like the past movie (which records the previous 5 seconds after you hit the button) and quick shutter, which doesn't auto focus, but is an instant snap shot.

S500 Compact and Takes Great Pictures

Strengths: Size, Style, Unlimited Video, Great Pics, Value

Weakness: No Date and Timestamp on photos from camera.

If you need a point and shoot, this should be on your list of options. It's compact yet filled with features. Wife carries it around in her purse with no issues. Great to travel on vacations with. With a huge LCD screen (I don't miss the viewfinder at all) and great battery life, I can go one full day of sightseeing without worrying about the battery dying.

Exilim EX-S500 Digital Camera

Strengths: Light weight, quick turn on, quick shutter, great quality picture for such a small camera,

Weakness: The cables for the docking station are a little short

This is an excellant camera to have on you at all times. While not the best in picture quality, it makes up in portability, ease of use, and also quickness. I hate cameras that take 5 or more seconds to turn on. This camera is ready in 1 second!

Exilim review

Strengths: thin, simple, sharp, best shot feature

Weakness: the charging system

Quaily picture, very simple to use. The best thing is my gf loves it. The video quality is pretty good. The best shot feature is the best it is customize to take different kinds of picture like outdoor, candle light, pet and more. The LCD puts it over the top very clear view and it is larger than standard lcd camera screens

Casio Exilim 5.1

Strengths: Size, 2.2 screen, price

Weakness: no memory card included, picture quality of 2.2 monitor

This is my first digital camera and I love it. It is very slim and fits easily in my purse or pocket. (For around $20 they have these nice Exilim leather cases available). My whole family has Casios and they all love them as well. I found it very easy to use and handle. I love the way the lens expands outward as opposed to the Sony slim version. I love the size of the monitor but I find that the quality of the picture through the monitor is not that good. The actual picture quality, though, is great. Loading the battery was difficult to figure out. The manual instructions weren't very clear. The charger cradle is small and light to easily carry on a trip. It is a pain to have to refer to a disc for detailed instructions (such as figuring out how to attach the strap!) instead of having a hard copy manual readily available. For computer challenged people this may be a problem. Other than these small weaknesses I'm really enjoying my new camera and would recommend it.

Good Camera

Strengths: Great cosmetics, light in weight, larger screen, easy to use, always ready to point and shoot.

Weakness: Cradle required to access pictures via USB. Leather case not included..a $25 dollar value. Shutter button is sensitive.

No complaints so far. Camera seems user friendly which is nice since there is practically no user manual. Somewhat fragile since the screen sticks out from the rest of the camera. Fully charges in about one hour.

Nice little camera

Strengths: Compact,lightweight.

Weakness: Average picture quality

I wanted something compact to fit in my pocket. My still pictures are fine. My fast action/sports pictures are very blurry. There's such a delay in capturing action. Already getting small scatches on screen. My second choice was a Canon SD400. Think I should have gone with that instead...
