Strengths: Has many great features. Really takes at 6MP.
Weaknesses: only comes with a 16mb card.
Summary: I absolutely love my new camera. I strongly recommend this camera. Before purchasing this camera I went to several camera shops in my area and asked them which camera they recommended. All of them said the Fuji S5000.

Strengths: GREAT ZOOM, FAST, SLEEK, SHARP, GREAT DIGI CAM, CAN'T GET A BETTER DEAL FOR $300.00. WOULD ADVISE ANYONE TO BUY THIS PRODUCT
Weaknesses: IT WOULD BE NICE IF IT HAD AT LEAST 6.1 EFFECTIVE MEGA PIXEL
Summary: GREAT CAMERA, GREAT PRICE AND FEATURES ITS WORTH THE AMOUNT THEY ASK FOR. IF THIS CAMERA WOULD OF SAID NIKON INSTEAD OF FUJI THE PRICE DIFFERENCE WOULD BE AT LEAST THE SAME AMOUNT IT COSTS.

Strengths: 10x Optical, Superb optics, best movie mode, many options.
Weaknesses: 16MB xd card
Summary: This is the best camera on the market. The picture quality is unbelievable (I have yet to need more than the lowest quality setting). The movie mode is the best of any camera (30fps, sound, and up to 14 min on 512MB card). The camera is completely configurable (shutter speed, aperature, etc.) The price is right too. There is simply no other digital camera to buy at this time. BUY IT NOW!!

Strengths: Small,Light weight and Fits perfect into your hand.
Weaknesses: Lacks some exposure features such as 'bulb'
Summary: This is a great camera. It was the first Digi that I bought. I got it to take on my honey moon down in Jamacia so I wouldnt have to lug my big SLR around and roll after roll of film.It did a great job If you want to see some of the pictures Taken by this camera go to home.cinci.rr.com/duckdoom
I have some shots up there that were all taken from this Camera. The zoom it great and it takes WONDERFUL pictures. I worked at Ritz Camera for over 2 years and I have never seen a camera This good for this price befor. I picked mine up about the day it hit the Selves and spent 499 on it. but It was REALLY worth it. the batter life on 4 AA is Great. I only have 8 rechargeable AA and I think thats ALl I am going to need WIth a one Hour Quick Charger and some 1800 Mah+ batterys. and You will be set for 200+ pictures no problem

Strengths: Long zoom. Very good optics. Great feel. Many features. Good price.
Weaknesses: Relatively high xD card price. AC adapter extra.
Summary: This is my first digital camera after years of high end 35mm SLRs. I was completely blown away! The camera feels great, has excellent optics, and produces 8x10s that are impossible to distinguish from my Nikon with AF lenses. The Finepix viewer software is easy to use and makes the task of image management easy. I went ahead and spent the $175 it cost to get the 512 MB xD card - but that's 18 rolls of 36 exposure 35 mm film and I get 14+ minutes of movies with sound capability to boot. What a deal! I'd recommend this little gem to anyone wanting an excellent digital camera at a competitive price.

Strengths: Lightweight compact.....lots of control of camera functions. Lots of ways to use it. Great results at a great price
Weaknesses: Memory cards a bit expensive.
Summary: The only problem I can see is don't sneeze when you have the memory card out of the camera, or you might loose it..........it's that small.

Strengths: Light, I like the SLR shape, takes good pix.
Weaknesses: Stopped working after 3 weeks, had to have the power circuit board re-soldered and the connections cleaned.
Summary: I had the camera for three weeks and it worked fine. It seems to take great pictures and is pretty easy to use. After three weeks it stopped working. I corresponded with Fuji's help email but got nothing but answers and suggestions that were quotes out of the manual. Called their help line and was pushed into voicemail after 10 minute waits and got no call back. I did get responses to my email for help on returning the camera but was told to ship the camera to NJ for work and that it would take minimum of 2 weeks. I found an authorized repair outlet in Seattle and took the camera there. They were able to repair it in 2 days and it is back working now. I hope it does not give out again.

Strengths: Fun to use, Great zoom lens, nice options, fits in your hand nicely, nice software package
Weaknesses: 3.1 MP, plastic body
Summary: I tested this camera vs another that was a 5.3MP and had a 7x optical zoom. All said and done the S-5000 was easier to use, took great pictures, and was just more fun!! the software package sealed the deal, very easy to store and print photos, and edit and clean up (rarely needed though. I looked at A LOT of cameras in this price range and slightly above. I'm glad I picked the FUJI. The one thing that I can't rave about is the ability it has to take a 6MP picture - That doesn't really work. There is nearly no change at all in the picture quality, just the picture size

This is my first digital camera, but I have used o ...
Strengths: excellent ergonomic design, 10x optical zoom, price/quality ratio
Weaknesses: flash is too weak, no external flash socket/hot shoe, white balance for flash photography, too strong jpg compression, noise.
Summary: This is my first digital camera, but I have used other dig cams. S5000 feels great in hands and every button is on the right place. Solid built.
S5000 is capable of taking excellent pictures, but photographer must be very careful in order to take excellent photos. Pictures taken with this cam can be better than 4 or even 5 MP cameras. Contrast is excellent, colours are vivid, and sharpness is very good. I have best results with 3MP. On the other hand flash photography is dark side of the camera. White balance is dissapoingly bad and white is never white when I use built in flash, which is too weak. Only sufficient till 3 m. Therefore I use external slave flash Metz 34 CS digital. S5000 is very difficult in using on snow. Sometimes colours could be a little odd.

Strengths: This FujiFilm is the best camera for it's price available to date. I have never seen a digital SLR like camera for less than 2000 dollars and this camera is a mere 300!
Weaknesses: It could be a little lighter and the lens cap could be easier to put on, but otherwise no complaints
Summary: 2003-11-07 05:13:09 The FujiFilm S 5000 is one of the best cameras to date that I have seen for it's price, quality, and overall value. It sports a 10x optical zoom, which when taking pictures, allows you to see the bugs in the grass from a standing height of 6 feet. It allows for all the detail you could ever want. It's frame is built like a tank, so it should stand up to some beating. The EVF or electronic view finder is one of the most unique ideas I have ever seen for a viewfinder. Unlike standard cameras where what you see is a bit over what the lens sees in the camera, the EVF allows for you to be able to see exactly what the lens sees. Also, the 4th generation CCD is an octagonal shape where as most are a standard circle. This allows for a better resolution with less work from the camera. It is a digital SLR or single lens reflect look alike because it has a lot of the features of an SLR, but at a fraction of the price. It's screen allows you to see everything in perfect focus. The diopter on the EVF allows for focal lengths for any member of the family. It has the simplicity of a point and shoot while maintaining an SLR apperance. It is a beautiful camera and I would highly reccommend it to anyone. The fujifilm website also gives all sorts of tips and tricks for this new camera so please check it out too.

Strengths: Price, Included basic Accessories and love the addaptor ring that really makes this one look like a true SLR.
Weaknesses: Slow shutter speed and too Much Compression for JPG Format.
Summary: 2005-01-15 05:21:26 Overall this is really a great camera. It does take wonderful photos even in the automatic mode. Have had the chance to use it for about 800 photos so far indoors as well as outdoors. Have tired all modes and the Raw format is really the best. Only problem is when you shoot in the lower memory stages, 6,4,2 and 1 meg range the camera compresses the photos to about 72 pixels resolution. For what I'm using this one for it's ok but I really do like the RAW format it's much higher resolution. File sizes in RAW are 6.9 megs so be prepaired to have plenty of XD memory cards available.
Now to really get the best performance out of this one you will need a highend photo processing software. Fuji missed the boat on this one. I'm using Adobe Photoshop and the images print out really nice. Now for the RAW format you have to go to the Adobe website and download the plug-in for photoshop. They currently only support CS (photoshop 8. Well the plug-in works fine with my 4.0 version as well as my version 7.
Will be going on vacation this week and taking a lot of horseshow photos for the family in Oklahoma City at the Appaloosa Nationals so will know more about this one's capabilies when I get back in two weeks.
Again overall this one is diffently a keeper. Lots of features for the little price. Shutter is slow and for sports you have to know what you want before hand to compasate for the shutter delay. Guess if you stacked it up with the SLR's it's a 4 out of a 5.
Will post more after the trip.
Ok finally finished the photos for the Nationals and several other local shows. Shot over 3000 pics out in Oklahoma and about 1500 locally. Man did this camera do a great job. Some of my friends I took pics of stated that my shots were as good or better than the professionals at the show with my cheaper camera. So that should tell you what kind of camera this one really is. I think I'll keep this one and use the savings to upgrade my software to produce better products in RAW format. Again my only complaint with this one is the delay of the shutter speed when you take a shot (about .5 of a second)and the jpeg compression is way too much. The shots would be much clearer with out compression.
Thats all for now. Again I recommend this one it really is a keeper.
Updated Januray 2005.
Ok so far this one is a keeper. I've now started to really shoot action shots and the delay on the shutter is way off. If your going to shoot sports action shots look for something that has a more rapid action once you press the button. .5 seconds min on this one and you will miss the shot.

Strengths: 10x optical zoom, fairly quick focusing, solid for day activities. Flash fills in nicely.
Weaknesses: max shutter speed 1/2000; at 800 ISO, can shoot only 1MP images/not 3.2MP as with 200, 400 ISOs. No external flash bracket.
Summary: As sports photographer, I look for max optical zooms, fast shutter speeds, continous frame speed and ISO options. S5000 has 3.2 f-stop on 10x zoomed images, but pic quality is clean until 800 ISO. At 800, Fuji allows only 1 MP images due to high-rez grain. So forget large prints on night photos. Overall pleasing mid-range camera for sports and easier subjects.

Strengths: Price\Quality Ratio; Image Quality and Performance; Featureset; Lightweight; Looks & Feels good; 10x Optical Zoom
Weaknesses: 2x digital zoom tends to pixelate on some shots; 16mb card is insufficient. I got the 128mb card, and it's adequate, but I think the 512mb would be the ticket.
Summary: I am ASTOUNDED at the performance of this camera! If you're after a good digital Camera without a ton of $$$, this is the one to get. Just buy it.
I've had this camera for 6 weeks now. I shot around 1400 pics the 1st week just experimenting. Here's what I experienced:
While riding at 40mph, I shot a pic of a roadside sign. It came out perfect, no blurs, as if I was standing still on the roadside.
The Continuos shoot mode is phenomenal. Video mode captures great quality (Waterfalls on a backpack trip came out GREAT!) Battery life has been excellent. (I've changed them once since getting the camera, but I don't use the flash) The flash worked well for the few shots I used it. Self Timer - Excellent; Shutter mode - great (Wish it had a faster setting), ISO's great (Wish 800 didn't insist on 1mb mode); Night shots could be better, but that may be the operator. All in all - I LOVE this camera. It's the bomb!
When you consider it to be @ a $300 camera - you're getting WAY more than what you're paying for. Quality, functionality, creativity (manual modes - shutter speed, aperature setting, manual focus), film type profiles (Chrome, B&W, Standard), Video Capture, On-Camera cropping, etc.. what a wonderful package!
