Canon PowerShot SD100 3.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: price, size, style, picture quality, battery life

Weakness: zoom and memory card small

I was deciding between this and an A70 but did not like the bulk and weight of the A70 so went with this one. I LOVE IT! size is great for my pocket, quality of shots is good and even though zoom is only 2x, picture output for emailing and posting in websites is amazing. Have not tried yet printing out. Price was great too! Played with it out of the box using defaults and got 16 pictures with a 20 sec movie (the movie quality was so COOL!) or deleted movie and got 19 pics (no settings changed) So get more memory for sure! so far battery has lasted me about 75 shots and have not recharged yet.

Strengths:
price, size, style, 3.2 MP quality of pictures, simplicity to operate, Canon name, movie mode is great!

weakness:
memory card size sucks, 2x optical zoom (fine tradeoffs to me for price well below $300 and size)

Strengths: Excellent pictues and very easy to use.

Weakness: some of the software setup can be confusing depending on your ver. of Windows.

I love this camera! I will never go back to anything but digital. This takes outstanding pic's and easy to take with you everywhere. I bought a small palm pda case for mine which makes it easy to clip right onto my belt like a cell phone. I would highly recommned it to anyone.

This is a very easy-to-use, intuitive device. The form-factor (i.e. size) is hard to beat. It has a very solid feel to it. Full of enough features to satisfy the casual user.

Strengths: Picture quality,U can make movies and send them online!sound quality is great!zoom is not bad itself either! &its durable! and of course, easy to use! My dad can use it too! lol

I'm a college student so I just bought a digital camra that should be light so that I can take it wherever I go with my friends and be able to send the pics online! THIS CAMRA IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO KEWL! My camras usually fall and then break, like the last one lol, but this one is sooo durable since its made of metal! Canon is a great company for camras anyway and they make their own lenses too, so just by knowing its from Canon one can automatically know its going to last a lifetime! About the zoom, if its a 2X or higher and has optical zoom and digital then its a good camra, thats what the retailer told me! Overall I highly recommend this camra!

good picture quality campare to its size and up to 3 minutes video recoder( max 640*480 ). battery is good ,9 point auto focus, good buffet.
weaknesses:
just 2 x optical zoom. if it is three or more it will be perfect.

Strengths: Ultracompact and technologically advanced digital camera with outstanding image quality and easy to use software. Made in Japan. Under $300.

Weakness: LIMITED 2x ZOOM RANGE. Limited manual exposure features. Included 16MB SD card inadequate for average user.

Stylish high quality compact digital camera with EZ to use buttons and controls. Flawless hardware and software integration. Only downside is the limited 2x zoom and the necessity to purchase a larger SD media card.

Strengths: Small size, picture quality, ease of use, excellent autofocus, numerous manual override options, 640x480/30sec. movie mode w/editing, automatic rotation of vertical photos, PictBridge direct printing

Weakness: Still a bit heavier than competitors, movie mode only 15fps so it's a bit choppy

This is my third Canon Elph digital camera (previously had the S100 and S110). Still the best mini digicam out there overall, although features like extra-large LCD screens and more-than-2x optical zooms are showing up on other brands. But with the high-quality feel of the camera, the minimal lag time between shutter button being pressed and picture recorded (a problem in many other digital cameras I've used), and good ergonomics, I still prefer the Canon over anything else I've seen.

My fourth Canon Powershot, They are the Best Digital Camera, I have owned other Brands ( Nikon, Olympus) , but these consistly offer the Best quality image and reprints.

Strengths: Awesome camera, great style and functional uses

Weakness: might be too small

this is the best camera i have ever seen, but u need small hands to use it. i myslef have large hands so it is hard to use, but great style points from me. Awesome software, easy to connect to computer and print out pictures. i highly recommend a larger memory card, large pictures take up lots of memory on the card. all in all, the best camera at this price and the size category it is in. five stars out of five stars. canon does it again with a great camera.

Weakness: A 3x optical could have been very good!

Tried it with a 128MB Sandisk, Edge and Viking SD cards - no problem. Battery charger worked great with 220V AC.

For the price after rebate and a free 128MB SD card plus extra compatible battery pack (at Officexxx.com), how could i complain.
Will take it with me, always when i go out. Bought a 256MB Kingston SD card as backup.
Mastered it after constant practise of taking pictures/movies using one hand. You have to use the strap just in case you lost hold of the camera.

I got this camera about a month ago...great camera. Picture quality is great and its easy to use. I picked this camera over the optio S...because of the shutter lag on the Optio(my friend has one...it's pretty bad...in her pics...everyone is always walking away!). I did have a problem with the memory card cause I used a SanDisk memory instead of a canon. But the problem was fixed with a firmware upgrade(but it was a pain in the a--). Oh!...The customer service from Cannon...#1(GREAT!) I had heard that Pentax was not so hot on that department.

Strengths: Compact size, solid feel, good features, good battery and media design and performance, easy to use.

Weakness: Lower zoom than comparable models, display a little small and difficult to see in bright sunlight.

I bought the Canon PowerShot SD100 Digital Elph looking for a camera that would fit in my pocket, perform well, and still cost a reasonable amount. I am very satisfied.

In looking for a digital camera, I found that I definitely preferred a camera that felt good to the touch. The metal body gives the SD100 a very sturdy look and feel. About the size of a bar of soap, it fits snugly into the front pocket of my jeans making it easy to carry anywhere.

I find it just slightly heavier than I would have liked, but that hasn't been a problem and I'm still able to easily take pictures with one hand. The controls are well-placed, leaving just the right amount of room for my right hand on its small frame. I'm even able to change modes with my thumb while holding it.

The controls are easy to use once you get the hang of them, and that doesn't take long. The menus are also easy to use once you learn what the non-self-explanatory symbols mean.

The display is only 1" x 1.25", which I don't find to be a problem, but I find the image viewing options to be very useful. I'm able to zoom way in on any picture, view a single image on the display, view nine to a page while scrolling to each image, or scroll by pages of nine images at a time. The display can also show useful information such as the image file number, the image number among the number of images you've taken, the date and time of each image, settings you took the picture with, and much other information.

The rechargeable battery is light (feels comparable to 1 AA), performs well, slides in and out easily, and is very simple to charge. The charger is a light unit slightly smaller than the camera that plugs directly into an outlet. Obviously the media cards are also small and they easily slide in and out just above the battery.

Overall, I am very happy with this camera with only a few minor issues. For the price of the camera, they should have been able to include some form of case, even the leather digital elph case that sells for ten bucks. The three- and ten-second timers are very useful (If only there were a remote!) and the camera sits well upright, but along its left edge the rubber cover over the A/V terminal and digital port is raised considerably making it difficult to stand on its side (the opposite edge has a metal loop for the wriststrap). Lastly, the optical zoom is only 2.0x (3.2x digital, 6.4x total), which is less than many other 3-megapixel models.

Weakness: ONLY 2X OPTICAL ZOOM, doesn't have modes such as "sport, portrait, etc..."

I got this camera about two months ago. I like it, it works great and very easy to use. However, the 2x zoom just isn't enough. I really hoped this camera had a few more other modes too. It only has Auto & Manual. I would of went with the s400, but it costs too much. The program for transferring pictures is quick and easy. The video mode is also very nice. I haven't tried printing it yet, hope the quality is good. but Overall, its a nice camera if you want something small and easy to use.

We researched quite a bit and decided on the Canon SD100 for a family camera for the main 3 reasons: Size, Multiple Functions, and Video with Sound.

I have fallen in love with this camera - for many reasons. It has been the perfect camera for our little family. When our son was born, we thought we could get away with a 35mm film camera, since I love the 'trueness' of film photography. After 5 rolls of film in the 1st month, we decided we needed to give in to the digital camera craze. It was one of the best purchases I have ever made! We love this camera. It is small, light, and easy to use. We take it everywhere...it even fits in my husband's pocket - and my purse! It would fit in my pocket, but I hate putting keys in my pocket, so why a camera!

What we love about this camera -
It takes excellent photos with considerable ease. The resolution is great. We put it on the highest resolution, which takes up the most memory, but also allows us the most editing freedom. Being an artist, I love the many different functions - sepia, b&w, low sharpening, neutral, vivid, etc.

One thing we have found is that we LOVE that this camera only takes 30 seconds of video with sound. We end up getting little 'snippets' of our life without going overboard with the home movies. We watch the clips often! I just bought some digital video editing software so I can string them all together into a little 'first year' movie. So priceless!

One disadvantage is that the optical zoom is very minimal. This camera is not for taking 'far away' pictures, in my opinion. It is, however, ideal for portaits, candids, and close-ups. I took my brother-in-law's engagement photos with the camera, and they turned out amazing. I even took some wedding photos and they liked them more than the hired photographer's photos.

Another downfall is that the flash is so bright that it washes out color and shadow at times - especially in dark situations. I have found it useful to turn off the flash at times, and other times I edit the photos post-shoot by decreasing the brightness and they turn out beautiful. (The joys of digital photography!)

The shutter lag seems to be a universal digital camera trait. I have adjusted my methods to it (I press the shutter halfway in anticipation, then take the shot at the moment I desire), but new users will find that frustrating as compared to 35mm cameras.

Bottom line - GREAT family camera. We have not regretted our purchase! It has been a wonderful tool for preserving the sweetest memories of our lives.

Strengths: the body design is great. sleek and slender. easy to take anywhere. for the price, it's a great catch.

Weakness: the 2x zoom may have been less than what i wanted, but i did get a good deal on it.

i've only had a camera for a day, but i've already been playing with it. it's easy to use. i didn't even have to use the manual...or not yet, atleast. since it's small, i can take it just about anywhere. fingerprints will definitely get on this little puppy, but hey, it's a great camera.

I WAS GOING TO GET S400 BUT MY PAL HAS IT. S400 IS HEAVY AND NOT EASY TOO OPERATE TOO ME. BUT THE PICTURE QUALITY WAS GREAT. NOW THE SD100 WAS SMALL AND MOVIE MODE WAS 640X480 AND VERY GOOD AS WELL. SD1OO PICTURE QUALITY IS GOOD NOT GREAT. PS. JUST ORDERED THE CP200 CANON PRINTER, HOPE IT PRINTS GOOD PRINTS FROM SD100. =) =(

I won this model at a Christmas/holiday raffle at my office building, and I wasn't expecting much when I opened the package and started using the camera. I had already bought a cheap five-megapixel (5 MP) camera a few months earlier, but my PowerShot SD100 outshines it by far.

This camera is sleek and compact, and it weighs practically nothing -- it's so easy to hold and carry around. And the picture quality is excellent: I took a bunch of pictures over Christmas and when I opened them in two different imaging apps, they were sharp and true to life. I didn't even need to use Photoshop to adjust anything, and these pictures were taken only on the "fine" setting and not on "superfine."

The camera is a snap to learn. I'm pretty savvy with tech gadgets, and this camera is easy and intuitive enough for a total newbie -- it's very close to point-and-shoot without much extra fuss. I appreciated not having to spend time adjusting to new menus/controls. The unit is *that* easy to use. Extra kudos for the crisp and bright LCD -- it really helps frame shots for those who do not like to use the traditional viewfinder.

Overall, I have nothing negative to say about this camera except that the package did not include a case, which I had to buy separately on Canon's accessories site. It also comes with only 16MB on its SD memory card -- you better get fatter storage for serious camera-happy days.

Weakness: The flast is a little to strong. I've you have big hands you wont like the small controls.

I've own it for not more then a year and I like it very mutch.
It's my first digital camera but I've lot to learn abaut digital cameras.

Check out the latest "Digital ELPH" from Canon, a subcompact model with a 2x zoom lens and 3.2 megapixel CCD. The SD100 is also the first Canon digicam that uses SD memory cards, which helps maintain the small size. All in all, a very nice little camera.
