battery life nonexistent

Strengths: to new to know

Weakness: battery life, battery life, battery life, battery life

Right out of the box Christmas morning. Pop in the batteries and start going through the owners manual and features with the camera on(of course). Immediately battery life only shaowed 2 of 3 bars. Withing 10 - 15 minutes down to one bar. Thought the supplied batteries were bad, so I put in my own fresh alkaline batteries. I couldn't believe it was even worse, after less than 10 minutes the low battery message came up on the LCD. I am very dissapointed. Will try and contact the manufacturere or return for another hoping it is just a defect with this one camera. This behavior cannot be by design. Only thing there is no support listed in any of the literature. Will reply again if this is corrected.

You are assuming that the batteries were charged. I found the batteries required a full charge out of the box. Once charged the batteries work fine and the camera will take many pictures on that charge. The problem with this camera is with low light focus clarity and color. I ended up returning the one I purchased.

Also, the manual states that the camera is designed for rechargable NiMH batteries and will not work as well with alkaline batteries. Try the ones it came with and do a recharge before you return it for battery life.

My camera has the same problem with the batteries... I am guess that it is just this camera that requires rechargeable batteries, because the DXG camera that I had before this one, in fact I still have it, runs perfect off of regular alkaline batteries. And no, there isn't anything of tech support in thier books that come with the camera, nor do they have anywhere on thier site that you can complain, also you have to pay for the "good" support! I think it's crazy, and I am considering just taking this camera back, getting my money, and going with another brand.

The 503 works great outdoors. As with most digitals
the flash sucks. I agree with the low light level focusing
problem. The camera also is ultra slow. Be sure to continue
to hold it steady after you THINK it's fired because it hasn't
taken the picture yet. When you get used to that, it's ok.
I haven't tried it yet, but a high speed SD card may well improve the speed. I concur with the battery problems too.
I think all digital cameras sould have 4 instead of the 2 in
the 503. Fully charged 2500 mha NiMH batteries is the only
way to go. If you turn off the LCD screen the bats will last
longer too.
For the money, it's a pretty good beginner camera.

We've had the camera for almost two months. With NiMh 2500's we are getting a better use time out of the camera. At least it is more acceptable. Alkalines are only good in a pinch since they run for about 10 minutes. The focus is slow, which causes the photo to snap a second or two after you push the shutter button. One solution is to hold down the button half way to force a prefocus, when the green focus light comes on, push the shutter button all the way to take the picture quickly. In low light you can forget about getting a green focus light. Which is most indoor photos. Recently, when replacing the batteries, the battery door popped off. It will close again, but is more difficult now. The battery door pops off every time it is opened now. Yes, the price is good. We paid $118 on sale at Kohl's. Since then, though, I have seen some Sony 4MP for about the same price. Most of the time we don't even use the 5MP setting, mostly use 2MP. But other than those complaints, we will keep it, but if I had to do it again, wouldn't buy or recommend this camera.

Just say NO!

Strengths: Viewing screen

Weakness: batteries, flash

What's with the flash!! It does this double flash thing but the interval between is too long..right after the first flash, everybody moves and the picture you get sux! Except for the fact that I can see the image very well in the screen there is nothing else about this camera that I like. I wish I had never spent my money on it! Don't buy it!!!
