Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: 10x optical zoom; bright/large LCD; easy to use/great user manual; manual settings; easy to hold; great pictures; good battery life; very good software. Weakness: no battery meter to check remaining battery life ... not a big problem as battery lasts forever. This is my 2nd digital camera ... I have an old Sony. I just got the Kodak and I love the DX6490. I had read some bad reviews, but most were good. I liked the large LCD, the 10x optical, and the feel in my hand. Got a great deal at Buydig.com (I recommend them highly)and decided to buy the DX6490 after checking it out at Circuit City and watching the price fall on the internet for a couple of months. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: Schneider lens, large LCD display, 10x optical zoom, price! Weakness: Noticeable red-eye problem, flash doesn't open automatically I've only had this camera for a little over a week, but am happy enough with it to give it four stars. It truly does take some stunning & detailed shots! I was using a Sony P10 5MP point & shoot digital camera, but I am more pleased with the photos the Kodak takes. Many of the pictures I took with my Sony came out blury, but I haven't had any of that problem with the Kodak. I would highly recommend purchasing a 512MB memory card & an extra lithium-ion battery, but then you will be set. The size of the camera seems to be just right for my medium-sized hands - not too small, not too big. I feel more comfortable handling/holding this camera then I did with my P10 (although I could stuff the P10 in my pants pocket for traveling). I would recommend this camera for a novice or intermediate level photographer, or anyone looking for a good quality digital camera. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Overall A+ from amateur to professionalStrengths: 10x optical zoom, 2.2 lcd, movie, vivid color and more Weakness: delay between picture takings I bought the KODAK DX6490 a little more than a year ago, at the price about $350. The first thing attracts me is its professional look. Indeed, with the power of 10x optical zoom, you really can make some pretty good pictures. Generally, it is excellent. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: Wonderful color, large LCD Screen Weakness: none found My husband purchase this camera for me as a gift. I have used many digitals in my time. I found this one to be useful. If you are the type to have patients and read the manual, then this camera is for you. It does contain a lot of features that help quality of pictures. The user guide is easy to follow. I find the joystick to be better than the normal key pad. For the video, the sound quality is great. Highly recommend a bigger memory card, you won't want to stop taken pictures. Easy one touch upload of pictures. Sharing pictures are the best! Great camera for first, second and even third buyers! 100% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: Easy to use controls, Full manual mode is easy to navigate Weakness: No manual focus, but the focus works quickly and accurately I have owned several digital camera's, and so far the kodak's have been the preferred ones. Even my old DC215. Never gave me trouble and I could always rely on it when others would not function. This new 6490 is something else! Battery life is incredible. I can shoot all day on one battery even viewing the pics and selecting my preferences for marking. Zoom works great, lens is very clear, focus actually works (unlike my minolta dimage's) I found a second battery for $29.00 but have not had to change because of the battery going down. I love this camera! I Highly recommend this camera. 99% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: 4 megapixel, excellent picture quality, colors are great, resolution is great, 10x full optical zoom, compact and leight-weght SLR style body, full manual and creative controls, great LCD, camera dock Weakness: flash isn't that great, close subjects are well let, but lots of black everywhere else, focus time is decent, but not great, digital viewfinder negates excellent burst mode Compact SLR style body, buttons provide essential functions are easily accessable. Full manual controls using a dial on the front of the camera opposite the zoom when in the manual mode. Manual controls include full manual, aperture priority, shutter priority and programmed (which is automatic but gives you more menu functions such as selecting white balance, spot focus, center weighted metering, etc.). The LCD is very large, very crisp and is called an all-weather LCD, however, in birght sunlight while better than most other LCDs, i still use the viewfinder. The viewfinder is digital as opposed to optical. While this is necessary on a camera with a 10x zoom like this, it does have some drawbacks. A couple of pluses though are WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get), no parrallex error, what you see through the viewfinder is exactly what you get. In low light conidtions the viewfinder switches to black and white so you can still see what you're taking a picture of. You would think having to use a LCD either way (one small in the viewfinder the other large) would lead to very short battery life, but this is not the case. i haven't had any battery problems. And my research showed additional batteries to not really be all that expensive anyway. Drawbacks to digital viewfinder: when moving the camera quickly there's a little lag on the screen, and worst of all: just like when you take a pciture using the LCD, after you take a picture the screen blacks out while processing the image, this means you can no longer see what you were taking a picture of. Normally, this would not be a problem, but when using the camera's burst mode (which is very good) the LCD blacks out and the viewfinder blacks out after the first picture. So if you're trying to pan the camera to follow an action shot it's all guess work. That's really my only complaint, the burst mode is great, but the functionality is lost by not being able to follow the action. 97% of readers found this review helpful. Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: Picture quality, LCD is very large, controls - love the joystick! Great low-light in smaller areas. Weakness: image stability when using optical zoom more than say 1/2 way - should use a tripod unless you have a very steady hand. Love this camera! I've taken some really amazing shots without trying too hard. The flash is amazing in low to no light if using it in a small enclosed space - ie. a room in your house. I've taken photo's in pure darkness and they are as bright as daylight. Low light in larger area's is not as good but not too bad with a tripod (because of shutter speed - same as with a 35mm). The zoom is a terrific feature. The controls and the menu is by far the easiest and most clear one out there. Kodak definetly wins on that one hands down! The dock is terrific, I use a Mac and have had no problems with this camera or my previous Kodak digital dock. Detail is incredible - key is to use the focus! The sports mode is great if you have small children. Can't say enough! 97% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: I like the 10x optical zoom, big, clear LCD monitor - Great picture quality - Many great features and the ease of Use Weakness: Would be nice if a stablizer was added; internal memory too small but memory is REAL cheap. Buy a 128 or better still..a 256 SD. Ordered this camera with the docking station and had it overnighted to make our family reunion. Charged overnight and away i went with 128 memory card. Takes great pictures in shady conditions. Take AMAZING pictures in the DARK! (Yes..it will focus almost in pitch black. You need to be a little careful in bight sunlight with different contrast. IE..People standing in a stream. The bodies will appera almost ghostly..a little to much white. I should have shot with a different setting, so play around with the options . It has wonderful options like sports-portrait and action etc. I did not run out of battery after three days of shooting (250+ pictures)I did run out of memory card. (See above weakness) I have ordered another 256MB SD. I compared the Fuji 5000 and 7000, Canon Sureshot 80 and Minolta Z2. There are things i like and dislike about all of them. The Z2 has a funky system to switch beteen the LCS and Viewfinder. That would end up breaking. The Fuji didnt have enough options (ISO of 100-200 and 400!!)I also though the pictures were better on the Kodak when compared to the 7000! The Kodak was a fine mix. I don't like the shutter closing on batch shots..and it isn't a speed demon..but overall, a good compromise. The z2 is faster but the look and feel of the Kodax, along with ease of use and the docking station made it a winner. The Kodak is always ready to take a picture..no matter what screen or menu your at..the others weren't. The new Z3 minolta would also fit my bill..but is SEVERAL hundred dollars more expensive. You will be happy with this camera, and take very nice pictures. You'll get use to the speed of the camera, so that becomes less of a concern. 96% of readers found this review helpful. Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: 10X Optical zoom, Good lense, Compact size for 10X, Multi-Mode, large 2.2 inch display on back, Ease of program settings Very Good picture quality. Weakness: Must use docking station to charge, Have to buy seperate charger to travel lightly. Hard to find case for it. This is my 5th digital and my second DX6490. I returned the first one. After much research in the limited 10X compact digital camera field I bought the DX6490 when it first came out but was dispointed to find that I had to use the docking station to recharge the battery. I tried to find the optional charger but was unsuccessful. As I do a lot of traveling one of the strong points was the compactness for a 10X camera but this strength was negated by the necessity of carrying around the charger. But I was hooked on the pictures and the 10X lense, wow! After traveling a month I could still not decide on an alternative and finally found a charger. I'm glad I waited. I have been very pleased and am constantly amazed at the way the program mode seems to fall into place for me and the quality of the pictures. I use a 256meg card and find that the battery last quite a long time. There are only a couple of things that I would change about the camera itself but wish that companies would do more planning when releasing products. For instance the charger and carrying case almost dissuaded me from purchasing an otherwise excellent product. 95% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: Very nice 10X optical zoom with Schneider lens. A lot of camera packed into a relatively compact unit. Also the Li-ion battery lasts quite a long time even when using built in flash. Weakness: The $450+ price should include a camera case. One that fits is a little hard to find. This is my first digital camera and it has a bit of a learning curve to get great photos. Once you have mastered it takes beautiful pictures comparable to my old 35mm SLR. The 10X optical zoom works very well. Also in low light this camera takes some amazing pictures if it is setup correctly. It comes with the Easy Share docking station and that makes charging and transferring pictures to computer very easy. 95% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: 10x optical zoom, easy to use, great color, great photos Weakness: slow low light focus, no image stabilization I really don't understand why some people put down this camera. THIS IS A REALLY GOOD PIECE OF EQUIPMENT! The camera takes wonderful pictures when used properly. I have taken almost 1500 photos with this camera and I am more than pleased with its performance. All you have to do is read the manual and practice with the camera. I don't think anyone would take medicine without reading the instructions first. It's the same principle when using a new piece of equipment. You have to read the owner's manual to learn the camera capabilities and how to use the camera in certain situations. AND DO WHAT THE MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDS! If it suggests using a tripod...USE ONE!!! I have taken pics in bright light, optimal light and low light, @ max zoom and have had wonderful success in all situations. I have used all the different settings from auto mode to the manual mode, from the sport mode to the portrait mode, from the night mode to the video mode. I've used the burst feature, the macro mode (for close ups) and the landscape mode (For distant scenery). Most of my photos look as if I hired a professional. I had not had any problems cause by the software. No problems transferring from camera to pc. Or using the software to upload to online developers (i.e. Ofoto). I would recommend this camera to anyone ready to take point and shoot to the next level. I would recommend this camera to anyone willing to take the time and learn how to use any piece of equipment properly. I would not recommend this product to the Kodak bashers out there for they would not give this camera a chance. Nor to those that expect a $400 camera to perform better than a $1000+ camera. I would buy this camera again...as a matter of fact I will be purchasing the DX7590 (same body...more features and megapixels) ASAP!!!! 94% of readers found this review helpful. Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: Optical Zoom @ 10 X 4.0 megapixels Weakness: Not a pocket camera Earlier this year I bought a Kodak LS 443. It's a great little camera. Prints from OFOTO uploaded at its 4.0 mega pixels come back looking beautiful. I took a picture of a rose growing in my father in-law’s rose garden this summer, uploaded it to OFOTO, and sent it to him in our Christmas card this year. His wife liked it so much, she framed it and hung it on the dining room wall! The 3-D quality of the photo was amazing. This Christmas I bought my 20-year-old son a Kodak DX6490 Digital Camera. We looked at a lot of models and brands, but NONE had the combination of a 10X optical zoom along with 4 megapixels. Everyone is so “focused” on the megapixels specification, they ignore the optical zoom specification. Most of the current "best buys" are only 2, 3 or 4 optical zoom. You can read a newspaper from across the room with the DX 6490, to say nothing about photographing scenery, landscape, people, sporting events, or the kids playing soccer. Anyway, my son, who used the LS 443 all summer, fell in love with all the advanced features of the DX 6490. I didn't get to use it until the day before he went back to college! Another seldom-used feature, not available on inexpensive models, is the video out (AV) connection. On good cameras, you can attach the camera to the TV and show a slide show in your living room. The processor in the DX 6490 is faster than the one in the LS 443, so there is no lag time for the photo to be in focus. I have shown this feature to many that have digital cameras, and almost no one knew about it or had used it before. 94% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: The Camera takes excellent pictures. The camera is very east to use and I love the high quality, large dislay screen on the camera. For a 10x digital zoom, the camera is small. Weakness: Shakes a lot on full zoom - results in fuzzy pic's. The software is easy to use, but does not remove red eye very well (camera is red eye prone) you will need better edit software. Hard to find case. The camera is very well designed. It is the easiest to use camera on the market. The 10x optical zoom is outstnding. Pictures are sharp and crisp. Camera also takes great close up pictures. All controls are logically organized. The camera is a great value. Not only do you get a great camera, you also get a docking station that allows the camera to upload pic's at a push of a button and you get re-usable batteries and a batter charger (in teh docking station.) At Circut City, I purchased a 256mb sd card for $58 because everyone who purchases this camera will need the extra memory. The card can hold up to 196 pic's at the hightest quality mode. Unlike some more expensive camera's, the camera a microphone and speaker (for playback mode) to support the movie mode. In a word, the camers is outstanding. I spent months looking at other camera's and reading reviews. I selected the camera because it's easy to use, it takes high quality pictures, has an outstanding display panel, unmatched 10x optical zoom, has good looks (is not that bulky) and is a great value included in the batteries and docking station. I am a first time digital camera user and loce this camera. Kodak did an outstnding job hen they created this "best in class" camer. 94% of readers found this review helpful. Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: Impressive Zoom (10X) - Big, clear LCD monitor - Great picture quality - Many great features Weakness: Haven't found any yet The feature I am really impressed with is the 10x optical zoom lens. It's made by Schneider-Kreuznach, which is a very respectable name. It gives you very detailed images, even when at maximum zoom. The 4mp option on this camera with Kodak colour science provides for nice looking and sharp images. No sacrafice of image quality even when it is used in low light. It also has a very large 2.2" LCD screen. It is a compact camera and is very light in weight. The camera is very easy to use with a ton of great options and features. Great camera for the price; great mid-range digital camera. 93% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: 10x optical zoom, Great lens, All the featers of a SLR. Weakness: Only one. When in the burst mode you loose the view finder. I have read all the reviews on this product. They are all true except for the negitive ones. People don't read the instructions. For those who say it can't focus in low light, it will focus in the dark, that is a fuction of infra red. If you push the shutter release 1/2 way down it brackets what it is focusing on and if that is not the subject try again. It is amazing. The built in flash on ANY camras is only good for 6-8 feet. On Digtital when you put it in the computer you can enhance greatly. This unit you can hook up a off camra flash and go wild IF you plan to take a lot of night work. I use the flash in the day time all the time as FILL-IN to eliminat shadows on the subjects. It is dificult to eliminate red eye when the flash is ON THE CAMARA so get a program that lets you do it on the computer. This camras is truly incredable, I did not relize how good it was till I started shooting with it. I had two digitals (not including the toys such as the pens and slim camras with no flash) before but this is light years ahead. I put the largest media card in I could find and on the second highest resilution I can print 8X10 of a dinner party of eight and blow up a face from dinner with out a problem. Carring the charging deck in my camra bag is a small price to pay for the use of this gem. Having the ability to shoot with shutter or apature priority is a great advantage. I had to take a shot with strong back light thru an window and used the night capablities and with flash and got a great picture. THIS IS A GREAT CAMRA. I strongly recomend it. Just read the Instructions! 92% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: Awesome pictures Weakness: A little advanced for novice. We are very pleased with the purchase of the Kodak DX 6490. Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: Oustanding zoom; excellent overall picture quality in all conditions; compact, lightweight design; marvelously large LCD screen; Very easy to use, including manual settings; very strong battery life Weakness: Printed EasyShare software manual not included - Electronic version only. No others to mention I am completely satisfied with the DX6490. It is simply the best digital camera I have used to date, and I have tested quite a few of the competitors. No other camera can match the DX6490's 10x optical zoom, compact size and feature set for anywhere near this price. I could not be happier with my purchase, and have taken over 400 photos and movies since getting it about a month ago. Kodak definitely has a winner on their hands with this camera, and I can honestly say I am a convert. Highly recommended. 90% of readers found this review helpful. Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: ZOOM, ZOOM & ZOOM Weakness: Wish you could use the flash when in movie mode I love this camera. The zoom is awesome. I took photos on a recent rockclimbing trip, and got great shots ~ close up and far away. Not only are the features great, but the easyshare option is great too. I showed my husband a slideshow of our climbing trip within five minutes of getting home. The movie feature is a blast. Quality is good, and having the option of bringing only one camera with me instead of two separate - one still and one movie is awesome! 90% of readers found this review helpful. Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: 10x optical zoom, Picture Quality, Ease of Use, Software Enhancements Weakness: For the price it really should have come with a case and a Cigarette Charger!! Although I had plenty of battery for the day and I took 147 shots and 5 videos and reviewed most of it as I went. Wonderful Camera!!! I am very pleased. This is my 1st Digital (aside from the ones I played with at work). I have only had point and shoot. I just took it out of the box and started using it. (the battery was charged??) I didn't even read the directions. It is very user friendly. I got some really great shots at a rodeo in a covered arena (Very hard venue to take shots. I have a lot of really poor pictures taken there previously) Even the ones that were dark due to poor lighting inside and bright sun coming in from all around the cover were able to be fixed with the software. And I would be willing to bet that once I read the directions and use the camera properly I won't even have to fix them with the software. I took real close-ups of horses eyes and Action shots of bull ride and bronc rides. Some of the action I missed but I understand there is a setting for multiple fast shots. Quality of pics was fabulous. I can't wait to take more pictures. I too read the reviews in my research for a camera and I agree all the good ones are acurate. I ordered the camera online (little concerned about that but) also ordered extra memory and x-tend warranty and still saved $70 over the store price. Camera came quick and no problems. This is a Great Service from PCWorld. 89% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: PRICE. Good image quality. PRICE.10x Zoom. PRICE.Ability to "fine tune" using manual controls. PRICE. DID NOT install EasyShare software. WindowsXP recognizes it without problems. VERY EASY TO USE! Weakness: Slow writing to SD card (but tolerable for the price). Sometimes has trouble with AUTOFOCUS INDOORS with various lighting (incandesent and flouresent (price makes up for it). I was in the market for a digital camera and was REALLY wanting the most bang for the buck. I was willing to spend upwards of $1000 USD, but when it came crunch time to actually spend the money and after much research on various cameras with various resolutions, this Kodak won out. Its Price, its image quality, and its ease of use won out over a Digital SLR for the time being. however, i still will get my Digital SLR...one day! ;) 88% of readers found this review helpful. Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: 10X Zoom, Very Easy to use menus and software Weakness: Easyshare software does not work with my DVD/CD Burner Great Camera, battery lasts a long time. A little hard to get focused in low light/indoors but takes great pics if you take a little time. I need more time to get familiar with the Camera and I'm sure it will be easier to use indoors. Would be nice if they supplied a case. I bought mine refurbished for $299 and can't complain. 86% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: fantastic 10x zoom, SLR - like, huge 2.2 LCD, effective Electric viewfinder Weakness: no manual focus and aggresive jpeg compression Love the camera!!! It's easy to download and e-mail photographs to family and friends... just put it on the dock and press the transfer button and wallah! It's SLR - like features give you a free-hand to get creative with your pictures, and yet still gives you the option to go point and shoot when you feel like it!!! It's the best!!! I also enjoyed the flash-- it was great in our livingroom shots--- it illuminated the subjects enough. Too bad that some people decided not to keep this beautiful camera. 85% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: Incredible zoom. Schneider lens. Almost a professional camera. Battery lasts a long time. Too many to mention. Weakness: Choice of compression. Preferably also raw mode. I recently purchased a DX6490 after having had a DC4800. The first thing which caught my eye was the look of it. Typical of a professional SLR lookalike. Then came the most important thing of all. The lens. All controls are easy to reach. The choice of modes are unreal. It does however lack the advertised ( somewhere here on the mainpage), macro mode. A lens thread would not hurt at all. But I can live without it. The LCD is bigger than my handheld TV (Casio). A big plus. Also the electronic viewfinder. Nothing beats a "through-the-lens" viewing. It actually would assist in macro-mode if there were one. Apart from that, I would say that in its class and price it must be the best camera in the world at the moment. Maybe Kodak can/will upgrade the firmware to better the compression. Or at least give the user the choice. 83% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: Zoom, ease of use, great pictures in odd lighting conditions. This is my 3rd digital camera, and by far the easiest and best. I took over 180 pictures on one charge! Weakness: Nothing significant I would highly recommend this camera to anyone who wants good pictures, with the ability to zoom in on the subject. With all Digital pictures, it's not great taking action shots, but it's better than most I've used. The battery life is incredible, the viewscreen is HUGE and very clear. I haven't used the video option much, but you shouldn't base a digital camera on it's video capabilities. 83% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: Very Easy To Use, 10X Zoom, Huge LCD Screen, and Easy To Use Manual Controls. Weakness: Does not have manual focus or white balance, indoor pics. can be a little blurry at times. Overall, I love this camera. I have bought a couple of other digital cameras and I hated them so I took them back (especially the Sony P10). The only complaints I really have are the ones mentioned above and the indoor pics. coming out a little blurry sometimes is just until you get used to the camera's limitations and not anywhere near as bad as some of the other cameras I have tested out. I don't know why some of the previous people said that it was hard to get the pics. from the camera to the computer. This camera is probably the easiest to use than any other camera that I have messed with. You can also get an extra battery and a case that is made specificly for this camera from the kodak website. I bought the camea bag and it fits perfectly, it even has pockets for the extra battery and two memory cards. I do wish that I didn't have to charge the camera through the dock, you can buy A seperate charger for it though. Keep up the good work kodak! 80% of readers found this review helpful. Mar 3, 2005 My Kodak 6490 in the instruction manual page 34 explains how to set the white balance It can be adjusted for outdoor, tungsten and flourescent lights. The flourescent light adjustment corrects for the green light given off by these lamps. Like my Nikon F4 the AF may need to be adjusted two or more times, but eventually I get a sharp focus. If there is still a problem then read page 38 of the manual. And to set sharpness check out page 39 of the manual. This is a wonderful camera but the manual needs to be read carefully and then studied carefully and the pictures can be made with a sharp blow up 20 x 30 if you follow all the instructions in the manual. A really great camera. I am still learning out to use it and I have had it almost a year now.

Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: Very Simple to use, excellent optical 10 x zoom Weakness: 4 megapixels For the money this a great camera, I would like to see it have 5 or 6 megapixels though, but for a 10x optical zoom camera that takes great pictures and is one of the easiest digital camera to operate, you can not go wrong. 80% of readers found this review helpful. Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: I like the 10x optical zoom. I is quick to reord to the memory chip. I like the docking option that allows you to pring photos anywhere you are. Weakness: Internal memeory is too small. You definitely need a memory stick. I like the different setting you can chose based on the kind of picture you are taking i.e. sports, landscape etc. I also like that fact that you can take movies. I have other digital cameras & this has been the best so far. 80% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: Great lens. E-Z to use. GREAT battery life! Some of the E-Z Share features DO actually work well. Got lots of admiring looks from the other "Techno-Dads"(lens envy?) Weakness: Lens cap. Software isn't perfect. Images I tagged for email in the camera while on vacation? None of them migrated to my email program or Kodak site for transfer, which I understood to be the point. Okay... we're back from visiting Mickey. Despite our entire family getting the flu (vacation from hell?) 6490 performed almost flawlessly, but perhaps some of the problems are due in part to my unfamiliarity with the operation of this little wonder or the heavy doses of Advil. When light conditions are right, it takes incredibly "true" pictures without the aid of the flash. With the built-in flash and relatively close to your subject, also performs pretty well. Lit subjects nicely. Character shots with kids came out beautifully and saved us $$$ at the Disney Photo Store. We took some shots at some of the live shows at Disney and the original shots were a tad dark and undistinguished. Kodak has partly lived up to their "EASY SHARE" software billing in that the software has an ENHANCE "button" that VASTLY improves images with a CLICK. I do not know how it works, but they've added some sort of A.I. to the product and it cleans up a dark image to the point where the shot is not only viewable, but quite clear. Saved the day on some of these irreplaceable shots. 79% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: excellent zoom, video capture, price, large lcd, electronig viewfinder, low light photos, sports mode, portrait mode, and photo quality Weakness: Photos are near perfect but could be perfect if larger file bought the dx6490 over a week ago. I previously owned a dx4900. The 6490 upgrades its color matching, photo quality, and zoom. It also adds unlimited video capture and lcd, evf options. 79% of readers found this review helpful. Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: This camera has a great lens, easy to use features, it is plug and play with XP. The Easyshare software works well with my Epson printer. It looks great Too. Weakness: A bit grainy with no flash at 800 but I was learning about the Camera. I own a Minolta 35mm Maxxim HTsi and a Kodak DX3900. I bought this camera for the lens. It has not let me down, the quality is awesome. After reading some of the reviews this evening I can't believe some of the folks were reviewing this same camera. 78% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: Digital 10X Zoom, easy to use programs, great video capability, nice clear pictures with auto features Weakness: a little large, expensive hard to find battery, no portable charger included, must carry dock, hard to find a small case to fit Kodak seems to make a quality product for a reasonable price. Some of the features on this camera are found on much more expensive cameras. I like the abiltiy to be able to choose a manual mode. The view screen is nice and large and you also have the option of using the viewfinder. Nice camera. I would recommend it. All the stores I went to, to get opinions on the camera, all the sales people had nothing but good things to say about the camera. 75% of readers found this review helpful. Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: 10x zoom, picture quality (even in the dark), battery life, easy to use, very versatile, easy to transfer pics to the computer. GREAT pics, if you pay attention to what the auto focus is saying Weakness: isn't compatible with my dvd/cd burner, and wish the software had a printed manual. Wish the software program would assign numbers to the pictures, so that you can keep up with them when mailing, etc This is a truely outstanding camera...it seems almost impossible to take a bad picture! With the optional sd card, you can take tons of pics and video. July 4th fireworks pictures taken in the complete dark even came out great...only 2 out of about 33 blurred, and the video of the fireworks was unbelievable. Read your manual, and pay attention to your auto focus, and you'll love this camera. I have yet to run the battery down, and have only filled up the sd card once, and I use this camera a lot. 73% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: lens, look, easy control, still acceptable size, easyshare software Weakness: depleted accessories for non US customers, should be 5 MPx, This camera fully fulfils my expecting...looks very cool although plastics body. Silver top panel and lens ring underline particularity. The EVF/AF/Flash head looks as Alien, what I like for some reasons notwithstanding I am very conservative person. Only ZOOM control button looks quite cheap, like taken from children toy. 69% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: Sharp lens, easy to use digital camera, simple file structure Weakness: It would be nice if the firmware allowed for sharpness and contract additives. This digital camera is designed to be an easy progressive step up in proficiency when the person with their first digital camera decides to upgrade. The Kodak DX 6490 accomplishes this goal quite well. At times some folks might want a bit more sophistication in terms of what the digital camera does. However, for the price the Kodak DX 6490 offers a lot. First time users find this an easy digital camera to become familiar with to use with ease. 67% of readers found this review helpful. Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: 10x zoom, continuous auto focus Weakness: No low light capablity in the preprogrammed modes, Manuel modes are too ackward to be useful. I don't know what everone is raving about. I tested this camera out extensively over the last 5 days, under all light conditions. I found this camera has serious problems. The preprogrammed modes will only work in bright sunlight or with the flash. The flash causes serious red eye. If it is a cloudy day, dawn or dusk and your subject is out of flash range, forget it. Also was not impressed with the quality of the landscape mode. I would not recommend this camera to anyone. Mine is going back to the store. 40% of readers found this review helpful. Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: Ease of operation w/lots of options. Love the 10x optical zoom. big LCD screen. Cool looking camera. Weakness: Price seems high. Would like portable charger and case to be included for the $. I'm low tech when it comes to digital cameras but this one is easy to operate and the instructions are simple to understand. Have taken some great pictures though and ease of downloading them to my PC was a piece of cake. So far the colors look exceptional, only used it a few days. Looking forewad to playing with the other settings, especially the zoom and even the manual controls. Something I never had the desire to do on my old 35mm. For my limmited camera use it has all the options and more. Huge LCD screen. With the black body, neat design and the big lense my friends are envious. 38% of readers found this review helpful. Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: Easy-to-use for beginners; unlimited movie mode; excellent zoom feature; compact and easy to handle; lightweight; nice large viewfinder Weakness: Picture quality is completely sub-par The photo quality is "Good" in perfect conditions -- i.e., bright outside daylight or very close-up shots. Other than that it is terrible quality. My FujiFinepix, a five year old 2 mp, is a better quality than this. The Kodak does very poorly in indoor shots. Blurry and out of focus, dark and poor colour. I kept this camera because I received it as a gift, but if I had purchased it myself I would have returned it. I will not buy a Kodak digital camera again. I would only recommend this camera to those who are extremely novice at digital photo taking, since it is very easy to use... probably the easiest to use I've ever seen. However, if you are unwilling to sacrifice quality for ease-of-use I strongly urge you to consider purchasing something else. 37% of readers found this review helpful. Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: All the camera features (except software) are very impressive and I really was pleased to own this camera. Weakness: It was impossible to transfer the pictures from the camera to the computer. I will never own another Kodak camera unless they regain my confidence in the name Kodak. This camera is not "EASY SHARE" as advertised. It was incredible that I could not transfer my pictures to my computer. The software is ridiculously complex, temperamental, and crashed every time I tried to load it on my computer. The support hours also stink and should be 24/7 considering the serious developmental limitations with the software. If you buy this camera you should ignore Kodak's promises and literature; instead insure you have Windows XP and pay careful attention to the return policy of the source where you are buying it. You are paying a lot of money for a quality camera with worthless and dysfunctional software! 33% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: Very easy to use. Weakness: Picture quality. Hard to focus in low light and when using zoom. We bought this camera based on a recommendation from a guy in a reputable camera shop. He said we'd have 7 days to try it out and return it if we were not happy. After taking many shots both my wife and I felt that the percentage of decent shots was way too low. We had an Olympus before with 1.2 megapixels and a 3x optical and it took much better shots than this one. 25% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: 10 zoom, great looks, easy to handle, nice pictures with good light conditions, long battery life Weakness: close shots do not work out, images get washed away Easy Share dock is not easy to get work the first time and an unnecessary plus. You can do the same with just connecting the camera to the USB. It would be more usefull to load the batteries directly and not through the dock. 0% of readers found this review helpful. KodakStrengths: Can produce nice clear pics... when it feels like it.. Weakness: I have NOT been able to take a picture in dim light or at night!! Went to Disney and could not take pics of the Castle or any object at night!!! Very Frustrating!!!! Taking pictures during the day (I have few problems) At night.... no sense in even lugging the camera around!!! Very disappointed!! I feel that 450.00 is a good amount of money and have friends who have spent a lot less and have much better quality pics. I am a picture fanatic and have been disappointed quite a few times when unable to get a picture of my kids.. either blurry or not fast enough!! Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: Spectacular quality, sharp details, perfect color. Great sports shots. The zoom is amazing, with VERY LITTLE pixellation (almost unnoticeable) Weakness: Somewhat uncomfortable to hold. Proprietary battery is a problem, can't find one anywhere. Poor image quality during twilight.Must charge on the dock, can't chg in car! I have previously owned a Polaroid and a Mavica. Quality FAAR surpasses both, and any other camera I have owned. Software is okay, but I use MS Digital Image Pro 9 and the Windows XP print wizard. Since most of my kids sporting events are in the late afternoon and evening, a twilight/sports featue wouls have been nice. You have to choose between a darker image (sharper)and a brighter (blurred) image. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital CameraStrengths: 10X high quality zoom lens, various auto modes but also manual settings. USB 2.0 dock for easy photo transfer and battery charge. EV goes BW in dim light. Weakness: I'm not a fan of proprietary lithium battery packs for cameras this size because of the price and availability. Macro focus could be closer. I like the small size yet Big 2.2-inch TFT color LCD that is easy to see in the day. Zoom has two speeds. I would have prefered the grip to be larger for my hand and allow for AA NiHM that cost a few dollars rather than LiIon pack that is hard to find and costs $40 to $50. It comes with 16megs internal memory. I got a 256mb SD card. The camera will use the card first then use internal when card is full. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Kodak EasyShare DX6490 High-end Digital Camera
Strengths: 10x zoom; cute body; great LCD screen; durable battery; basically unlimited movie mode; easy to use
Weakness: a little bit blur when zoomed in to the most, so it would be nice if a stablizer was added; internal memory too small
Picture quality is great except when the optical zoom is used to the extreme or a very near object is pictured. In either of the above cases, the focus does not work very well or the picture is more sensitive at the slight hand shaking. To add a stablizer should make the camera perfect.
The movie mode is impressive. Basically the only limitation is the size of your memery card.
The LCD screen is great. It is very clear even in the sun. The color is vivid.
The battery life is very long. It is more than enough for one day's activity.
I love the 10X zoom lens. To think if you sit with the audience and you want to follow someone at his commencement without a powerful zoom...
