Excellent remote, multi-functional, must-have!

Strengths: Size, functions, attachment options.

Weakness: You have to point right at the camera, else it wont pick up the signal.

Got this remote last week with my Digital Rebel XT. First of all, I expected it to be just a remote that replicates the shooting button. However, you can actually set the camera on manual focus mode and use the remote to focus. It has a switch on it that you can set to 2 second, immediate or lock.

I think this is a must addition especially if you want to be in pictures rather than be left out cause you're the one taking them. (like me!)

This has solved the problem of me running to get in the pic before the 10 second timer runs out!!!

Canon RC-1 Wireless Remote Control

Strengths: Lock feature to prevent accidental exposures. Instant capture, and timer release. Convenient camera strap connector.

Weakness: Short range, must be in front, or reach around camera and point at front to function (IR reqs line of sight).

This is a nifty little addition to any Canon SLR arsenal that allows for a lot of convenience. Say goodbye to pressing the shutter button and running as fast as you can to get in the picture. Say goodbye to jittery astrophotography. Say hello to pain-free remote operated photography and unwanted motion in your 30 min. bulb exposures. This is a great little toy... a little too little - use the neckstrap addon or you'll lose the remote!

Canon RC-1

Strengths: Wireless, size, instant and 2 second trigger

Weakness: almost none, maybe the it has to be pointed to the receiver

I bought Canon RC-1 remote control before I went to a short trip. It is very useful tool for just 20 bucks. I used it for night scene, landscape, and anything I mounted my camera on tripod. The distance is good. Since I mostly shoot landscape, the direction issue is not really a problem for me. Highly recommended!

Canon RC-1 Wireless Remote Control

Strengths: Small. Works as expected.

Weakness: none

The RC1 remote works with canon film cameras and digital cameras. Although the manual of my digital rebel XT only says RC5 works with mirror lock up, RC1 works as well when it is switched to 2 second delay. I mainly use it to reduce the camera shake from both shutter button and mirror. So, it's a must have function. If it's switched to instant shutter release, even if mirror lock up is enabled on the camera body, the mirror will not lock up. This is useful when you need to capture something fast.
It comes with a clip that clips on the camera shoulder strap, so you won't loose it.

RC-1 Wireless Remote Control

Strengths: Compact size, nice design, conveniently attach to the strap, button push comfortably.

Weakness: None so far

This remote works great with my Digital Rebel XT. Before I have this remote, camera shake has been a big problem for me, and it ruined many of my pictures. You must have this kind remote to take night shot, as it will limit camera shake to minimal. Compare to other Canon remote, this RC-1 seems have more functions (2 seconds delay, instant, and lock), so why not? I also like its compact size, and you can conveniently attach it to the strap, just click on and click off, that’s very good design. The day I receive this remote, I couldn’t help to test it out for some night shots at the same evening, and the picture turn out much better than before, as no more camera shake.

very good a must have for canon digital fans

Strengths: very light and flexible for you to take pic by your self, no need the cable wire, picture will be fun with this.

Weakness: the rang for it is very short, and no signal when you press button.

this little baby is very fun when you take picture by your self, taking all of the familly and group members. just prepare the pose and press the button, then you can take pictures!!! package including a strip rack for you to attach it on your camera strip, and the battary is long life time enough. just 25 bucks will give you another different fun experiences when you picture, and very easy to operate, a must have for the canon fans!!!

Canon RC-1 Wireless Remote Control

Strengths: Small and portable, wireless, lock/2-second/instant features

Weakness: can only be used in front of the camera

This remote is a must for anyone who shoots self-portraits, group shots, astrophotography, or any long exposure pictures. I like the fact that I can lock the shutter from accidental shots. It's small and light and comes with a housing that can be attached to your camera strap. My only gripe is that you have to either be directly in front of the camera or you have to wrap your arm around your camera and point the remote towards the front. But this isn't much of an inconvenience. It would be nice, though, if another IR sensor was located on back of the camera as well....but that's not the remote's fault.

The RC-1 a nice accessory. It has more uses than a wired remote. And it can go with your wherever you go.

Canon RC-1 Wireless Remote Control

Strengths: Allows for night photography and useful at short ranges.

Weakness: Range of the IR

This is a very fine addition to any photographer's acessories. I have been using a friend's remote for months and have recently bought my own. I have found it great for taking shots that require the camera to have a long shutter speed while mounted on a tripod. It's also great for setting up pictures of myself and my wife when on vacation, and then just pressing the button.
My only gripes are: the range of the remote is a little bit short, plus the fact that the sensor on my Digital Rebel is in the front of the camera, so the remote has to be in front (so when taking night shots you have to reach your arm round to the front of the camera) to activate the remote.
All in all though, this is a great little tool.

Canon RC-1 Wireless Remote Control

Strengths: Works with Digital Rebel, allows instant shot or two second delay. Clips onto camera strap.

Weakness: Doesn't work with all Canon DSLRs, check your manual.

Great little remote, a step-up from the RC-5, since this allows 2 sec. or instant shots, plus mirror lock-up on compatible cameras. It works about 15 feet away, and clips right onto your camera strap.

Canon RC-1 Wireless Remote Control

Strengths: 2 Second Delay, Attaches to camera strap,

Weakness: Very small, I hope I don't loose. Black on black control labeling.

This is an excellent addition to my photography kit. I have not tested the range of the IR, but the simplicity and layout of the controls is convenient. The lettering that identifies the lock, 2 second delay and instant positions on the control are black on black which make them difficult to read.
