Strengths: Great photos even in very low light.

Weakness: Movie mode viewing

It's a great camers, execpt if you are buying this camera for making movies forget it. It does a good job in recording movies viewed on the 3" camera screen, but can not be view on my XP computer or V

Amazing camera for the price, full manual controls!

Strengths: +Full manual controls +Battery can be charged while in use +720p H.264 video! +OLED screen vivid and efficient +Decent in low light +Editing +Price (MSRP $379.99) +SO MANY OPTIONS +Interface

Weakness: -Video is a bit quiet -Battery is charged in-camera, no separate brick -No sound while zooming in video -Screen not inset to prevent scratches -Doesn't make sandwiches

NOTE: This camera is aka wb1000.

OTHER STUFF YOU SHOULD KNOW:
Samsung, like Canon, processes pictures to be soft to combat noise. Panasonic's Lumix series tend to make their pictures sharper at the cost of more noise, which I like more. Pictures seem a bit fuzzy up close. Personal preference.

The gauges up top are AMAZING for like four minutes. After that it's just a more precise battery/memory indicator. Nice touch overall though.

I can get 25 minutes of HQ 720p 30fps video on a 2GB card. That's amazing. However, the audio is a little quiet--I can't see anyone distorting the mic at a concert or something. You can zoom while in video but the sound cuts out so you don't get motor noise. Meh. At least there is zoom.

The camera charges via proprietary USB to mini HDMI connector, which means you can plug it into any USB port/power source, and also means there's no separate brick. Pro for some, con for others.

Ergonomics are good for a camera this shape and size. You have to try to cover anything crucial. The speaker is on the left side, that dimple where your finger can go. I feel like this is a design feature that lets you quickly cover the speaker if it's too loud for your current environment. I like it a lot actually.

This camera has blink detection, face detection smile detection, red eye correction, double self timer, can focus on anything you want, with any aperture, etc etc. I'm no SLR owner, but I'm guessing this camera is basically the amazing result of an SLR and a point-and-shoot having a baby together. It's got all the controls of an SLR and the fun aspects (and photo quality) of a point and shoot. The thing can beep at you when it detects faces and make a different beep when you're smiling (for those facebook pictures where you hold your arm out and take a photo of yourself and friends). It can sort photos by color. I feel like they thought of most everything in terms of interface, and that if I dig around enough I'll find a "make sandwich" feature somewhere.

WOULD RECOMMEND TO: Someone who wants an SLR sidekick, or someone looking to get into manual controls. This is easily a $300 manual point and shoot.

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO: Someone who just wants a fully automatic point and shoot camera.

BOTTOM LINE: This seems like a great camera if you're willing to get your toes wet in photography settings. The learning curve of taking a simple picture is about 4 seconds, but there are so many features you can play with that 4 hours later you'll still find more. I feel like if you master this camera, you master some part of Photography 101. Or maybe Samsung marketing 101.

If you can deal with my list of cons, get this camera. If anything, it's about 2/3 the price it should be, and a manufacturer's 3 year warranty from Buydig is $10. That's justification enough.

Samsung TL320 (black)

THE GOOD: Extremely large feature set; solid, high-end design. THE BAD: Photo quality dips above ISO 200. THE BOTTOM LINE: The Samsung TL320s myriad shooting options make it a very good dSLR companion, but the photo quality and performance are definitely those of a point-and-shoot camera.
