Great DSLR

Strengths: compact, easy to use, aesthetics

Weakness: a bit small for my hands, but will fit most perfectly

This a great camera. I've been shooting medium format film for years and chose this camera to go digital. If this is what lower end DSLRs are capable of I don't see much of a future for film outside of hobbyists like myself. I am highly impressed with the image quality so far, much better than I've been able to get scanning MF negatives. The kit lens is amazing, much better than that provided by canon or nikon. I have a bunch of old pentax lenses that work with this body no problem (not true for canon or nikon). I like to use full manual mode including manual focus, so I don't see how one would improve upon this camera. more than 12 MP, RAW, DNG, and HD video. The AA batteries were a big plus for me as I will bring it backpacking and other remote places where recharging a Li battery isn't possible. Overall a fantastic camera definitely worth the buydig price. BTW I got the white kit and it looks fantastic.
Oh, if you're on the west coast, opt for the free shipping, it comes in the same time as the 3-6 day shipping.

Nice..... real nice.

Strengths: 12.4 Mega pixels....11 point Auto focus.....HD video recording! Face detection (up tp 16 faces). Shoots 4.7 Frames per second! Very solid and comfortable build in your hands.

Weakness: Not weather proof like the k-7.

I'm just a person that wanted to take some nice pictures of the family, and surroundings. Well let me just tell yah i'm glad i chose this camera to do that for me. Pentax Kx is amazing for the price!

Pentax K-x (black, with 18-55mm DA lens)

THE GOOD: Very good noise profile; nice-size viewfinder for its class; relatively speedy. THE BAD: Doesnt display AF points in viewfinder; no HDMI connector; slow Live View autofocus; mediocre LCD; unreliable image stabilization. THE BOTTOM LINE: A fast, inexpensive dSLR with better-than-average low-light quality, the Pentax K-x nevertheless has some flaws, such as unreliable image stabilization,...

DCRP Review: Pentax K-x

The K-x is well built, feature-packed, responsive, and a great value for the money at just $649. And it takes very good photos, too. It has its share of flaws, but the list is fairly short. The most annoying things about it are the lack of AF point illumination in the viewfinder, a mediocre LCD, and a tendency to clip highlights. Despite those issues, the Pentax K-x is a fine camera, and a great...
