Canon Rebel XS (black, with 18-55mm lens)

THE GOOD: Excellent photo quality for its class; solid performance. THE BAD: Maximum ISO of 1600; no spot meter; annoying, in-viewfinder, focus-point display. THE BOTTOM LINE: The Canon EOS Rebel XS is a good entry-level dSLR, but only its photo quality stands out among the competition.

Canon EOS 1000D Rebel XS

Overall, the Canon Rebel XS is a good quality digital SLR camera, well-suited to the consumer photographer. Canon sought to compete with Nikon and Pentax at the extreme low price level, and they had to cut a few corners. The body isn't quite as nice as the Canon Rebel XSi, and the image quality suffers from a few more hitches, worst of which are the moiré patterns we find in fine detail and the...

Canon Rebel XS review

The Canon EOS Rebel XS scores excellently and is well-matched with its more expensive EOS brothers. In addition, the beginning photographer will certainly be able to lift his photographic skills to a higher level. The Canon EOS Rebel XS is also an excellent step towards the semi-pro job, for those who want this kind of level. We can only come to one conclusion; the Canon EOS Rebel XS really...

DCRP Review: Canon EOS Rebel XS

The Canon EOS Rebel XS (also known as the EOS-1000D) is a very competent entry-level digital SLR. It takes photos of excellent quality, it's responsive, and it offers a host of useful features. It's biggest problem is that its big brother, the Rebel XSi, costs just $70 more. Upgrading to the XSi doesn't buy you better photo quality (you just get large images), but it does get you a larger LCD and...

Canon Digital Rebel XS Digital Camera Review

The EOS Rebel XS is Canon's newest entry-level SLR. Based on the Rebel XSi, it’s marginally cheaper and less powerful, with a resolution of 10 megapixels versus 12 for the XSi, a smaller 2.5” LCD screen. It arrives into an already crowded marketplace, full of affordable, starter SLRs. The XS performed competently in most of our tests, and proved itself able to handle low light situations...

Camera Labs – Canon Rebel XS review

Canon's Rebel XS is the company's latest entry-level DSLR and the successor to the best-selling Rebel XTi. The new XS shares the same 10 Megapixel CMOS sensor as its predecessor and also the same-sized 2.5in screen, but now adds Live View and comes bundled with an Image Stabilised kit lens, albeit with the same 18-55mm focal length as before. Interestingly some specifications have actually been...
