Love This Camera

Strengths: Extremely easy to use. Takes sharp, clear pictures.

Weakness: Slow processing, but only in smart capture mode.

I take a lot of pictures for my business and needed one that took extreme close-ups and wide angle. This camera takes amazing pictures. Very professional without the cost of an SLR. This is more of a Hybrid SLR.
The processing is slow in Smart capture mode. But since I rarely use it, it's not a bother to me.

Great Features, Great Pictures, Great Camera

Strengths: Image quality, ease of use, speed, versatility

Weakness: I wish the RAW processing was a little faster. Default color setting is too saturated. Kodak's Easyshare photo editing software is too basic and clumsy.

I bought the camera mainly because of the RAW, uncompressed feature, since I do a lot of closeup photography and want greater detail. It has proven to be a real winner in this sense and also for telephotos. They fixed the slow Auto mode processing with firmware updates, so now the camera is very fast in jpeg (RAW is a bit slow but not excessive). Image quality is sharp, clear, colorful, with that wonderful Kodak color. I do not use the video function, so I cannot speak about it. It is an easy to use camera with lots of conveniently placed controls for the most used functions. You can use it as a point and shoot or take more control with the manual controls. Adobe and Irfanview (a free program) process Kodak's RAW files. Kodak's own Easyshare software will also, but the program is clumsy and too basic. It is hard to get rid of if you install it and find that you don't like it. The proof of the pudding is in the tasting, as they say. If you want to see what the camera is capable of, feel free to peruse my 1015 pics at www.pbase.com/tgaf/kod.... The price is very attractive; you get a lot of camera for your money. I highly recommend the camera.

Kodak EasyShare Z1015 camera

Strengths: Very ease to use, great optical zoom, 720p video mode, great value, great picture quality.

Weakness: Issues with smart processing mode (fixed in FW update), included Kodak software not that good.

The Kodak EasyShare Z1015 is a great camera that has a lot of features for the price. One of the big selling points is the 15x optical zoom, which is great for getting in close for close-up pictures, which is much better than some of its competitors. The 10MP capture is great for getting very detailed pictures with very good color fidelity in both JPEG and RAW modes. The RAW mode is a bit slower than JPEG mode, though the picture quality is a bit better without the JPEG compression. The controls are pretty easy to use, so it makes it simple to get some great pictures. The video mode works well to capture 720p HD video, though it tends to eat up SDHC card space pretty quickly. For shooting a lot of video or a lot of RAW pictures, a 8GB SHDC or larger card is recommended. The smart processing mode, which does some pre-processing of the picture before snapping it, was a bit slow and broken when the camera was originally purchased, though a firmware update after the fact helped fix that issue.

The Z1015 is a great rock-solid camera that takes great pictures, good HD video, has a great optical zoom for close-ups and has easy controls to get the most out of the camera.

Affordable

Strengths: Price, quality,easy to use!

Weakness: Shutter

I purchased this camera because the price was within my budget. I have four children so I take a lot of pictures. If you spend some time learning the camera you will be able to take amazing pictures. The shutter is not as fast as what I'd like but for under three hundred dollars you really can't bet it. I have had it since Sept. 2008 and I'm still loving the moments that I'm able to capture. I highly recommend this camera.

Very Happy

Strengths: Good Price, Great Zoom, Easy to Use, has raw format, fast click to shoot.

Weakness: Could not find them look all over finally found one at Best Buy.

I had some auto focus issues but they were all cleared up with the firmware update for the camera that came out a couple of weeks ago. They did a great job with updating the firmware for the camera and now it is working great! I am using the new raw format and last week Adobe added the Z1015 to its supported raw formats and I am loving it. This is a great camera at a great price! half the price of a larger SLR, but has all of the features of a SLR, Must be all the years of making the Kodak Pro line of cameras. Take a look at it, you will like it!

VERYYYYY DISAPPOINTED

Strengths: LIGHT WEIGHT, EASY TO UNDERSTAND AND USE

Weakness: GRAINY,POOR,UNSHARP IMAGE QUALITY, GRAINY LCD

LIGHT WEIGHT CAMERA IS EASY TO HANDLE, EASY TO USE. IT ENDS THERE. HAVE USED EXTENSIVELY INDOOR, OUTDOOR, CLOSE AND LONG RANGE. HAVE TRIED ON SCN, "P" SMART CAPTURE ( VERY LONG PROCESSING TIME), AND MANUAL FOCUS. CAN NOT GET SHARP IMAGES WITH ANYTHING I HAVE TRIED. THE CONTINUOUS FOCUS IS JUST THAT. IT CAN'T DECIDE ON WHAT THE FOCUS IS TO TAKE THE PICTURE. I TOOK IT OFF CONTINUOUS AND IT DID NOT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE IN THE IMAGE QUALITY. IT WAS JUST A LITTLE MORE QUIET. I TRIED GOING TO 5 MP. LOOKS LIKE THE 10 MP SETTING. OVERALL- VERYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY DISAPPONTED IN THIS CAMERA. WAITED FOR SEVERAL WEEKS TO BE SHIPPED FROM KODAK ONLY TO RETURN IT. SAVE YOUR MONEY.

I find it very hard to believe that you were unable to take great pictures with this camera. Something tells me you did not know how to use the focus function. I have 4 Kodak digital cameras, 3 of them superzoom models, and have been wanting this model ever since I found out it was being launched. I could not be more pleased with the photos that I have taken over the last 5 years using my other Kodak cameras. There are many other digital cameras out there that can only do some of the things this model can do and yet will cost you at least $800 - $1000. When I do get this camera I will be sure to come back here and review it!
