Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: Has many great features. Really takes at 6MP.

Weakness: only comes with a 16mb card.

I absolutely love my new camera. I strongly recommend this camera. Before purchasing this camera I went to several camera shops in my area and asked them which camera they recommended. All of them said the Fuji S5000.

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: GREAT ZOOM, FAST, SLEEK, SHARP, GREAT DIGI CAM, CAN'T GET A BETTER DEAL FOR $300.00. WOULD ADVISE ANYONE TO BUY THIS PRODUCT

Weakness: IT WOULD BE NICE IF IT HAD AT LEAST 6.1 EFFECTIVE MEGA PIXEL

GREAT CAMERA, GREAT PRICE AND FEATURES ITS WORTH THE AMOUNT THEY ASK FOR. IF THIS CAMERA WOULD OF SAID NIKON INSTEAD OF FUJI THE PRICE DIFFERENCE WOULD BE AT LEAST THE SAME AMOUNT IT COSTS.

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: Lightweight, excellent styling, easy to use, good value.

This is my first digital camera. Have used an SLR Minolta Maxim for many years. I bought this camera based on a good review in consumer reports and the excellent user reviews on this sight and I am very pleased with it's performance to-date.

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: 10x Optical, Superb optics, best movie mode, many options.

Weakness: 16MB xd card

This is the best camera on the market. The picture quality is unbelievable (I have yet to need more than the lowest quality setting). The movie mode is the best of any camera (30fps, sound, and up to 14 min on 512MB card). The camera is completely configurable (shutter speed, aperature, etc.) The price is right too. There is simply no other digital camera to buy at this time. BUY IT NOW!!

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: Small,Light weight and Fits perfect into your hand.

Weakness: Lacks some exposure features such as 'bulb'

This is a great camera. It was the first Digi that I bought. I got it to take on my honey moon down in Jamacia so I wouldnt have to lug my big SLR around and roll after roll of film.It did a great job If you want to see some of the pictures Taken by this camera go to home.cinci.rr.com/duckdoom

I have some shots up there that were all taken from this Camera. The zoom it great and it takes WONDERFUL pictures. I worked at Ritz Camera for over 2 years and I have never seen a camera This good for this price befor. I picked mine up about the day it hit the Selves and spent 499 on it. but It was REALLY worth it. the batter life on 4 AA is Great. I only have 8 rechargeable AA and I think thats ALl I am going to need WIth a one Hour Quick Charger and some 1800 Mah+ batterys. and You will be set for 200+ pictures no problem

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: Long zoom. Very good optics. Great feel. Many features. Good price.

Weakness: Relatively high xD card price. AC adapter extra.

This is my first digital camera after years of high end 35mm SLRs. I was completely blown away! The camera feels great, has excellent optics, and produces 8x10s that are impossible to distinguish from my Nikon with AF lenses. The Finepix viewer software is easy to use and makes the task of image management easy. I went ahead and spent the $175 it cost to get the 512 MB xD card - but that's 18 rolls of 36 exposure 35 mm film and I get 14+ minutes of movies with sound capability to boot. What a deal! I'd recommend this little gem to anyone wanting an excellent digital camera at a competitive price.

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: Lightweight compact.....lots of control of camera functions. Lots of ways to use it. Great results at a great price

Weakness: Memory cards a bit expensive.

The only problem I can see is don't sneeze when you have the memory card out of the camera, or you might loose it..........it's that small.

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: Light, I like the SLR shape, takes good pix.

Weakness: Stopped working after 3 weeks, had to have the power circuit board re-soldered and the connections cleaned.

I had the camera for three weeks and it worked fine. It seems to take great pictures and is pretty easy to use. After three weeks it stopped working. I corresponded with Fuji's help email but got nothing but answers and suggestions that were quotes out of the manual. Called their help line and was pushed into voicemail after 10 minute waits and got no call back. I did get responses to my email for help on returning the camera but was told to ship the camera to NJ for work and that it would take minimum of 2 weeks. I found an authorized repair outlet in Seattle and took the camera there. They were able to repair it in 2 days and it is back working now. I hope it does not give out again.

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: Fun to use, Great zoom lens, nice options, fits in your hand nicely, nice software package

Weakness: 3.1 MP, plastic body

I tested this camera vs another that was a 5.3MP and had a 7x optical zoom. All said and done the S-5000 was easier to use, took great pictures, and was just more fun!! the software package sealed the deal, very easy to store and print photos, and edit and clean up (rarely needed though. I looked at A LOT of cameras in this price range and slightly above. I'm glad I picked the FUJI. The one thing that I can't rave about is the ability it has to take a 6MP picture - That doesn't really work. There is nearly no change at all in the picture quality, just the picture size

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: excellent ergonomic design, 10x optical zoom, price/quality ratio

Weakness: flash is too weak, no external flash socket/hot shoe, white balance for flash photography, too strong jpg compression, noise.

This is my first digital camera, but I have used other dig cams. S5000 feels great in hands and every button is on the right place. Solid built.
S5000 is capable of taking excellent pictures, but photographer must be very careful in order to take excellent photos. Pictures taken with this cam can be better than 4 or even 5 MP cameras. Contrast is excellent, colours are vivid, and sharpness is very good. I have best results with 3MP. On the other hand flash photography is dark side of the camera. White balance is dissapoingly bad and white is never white when I use built in flash, which is too weak. Only sufficient till 3 m. Therefore I use external slave flash Metz 34 CS digital. S5000 is very difficult in using on snow. Sometimes colours could be a little odd.

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: This FujiFilm is the best camera for it's price available to date. I have never seen a digital SLR like camera for less than 2000 dollars and this camera is a mere 300!

Weakness: It could be a little lighter and the lens cap could be easier to put on, but otherwise no complaints

The FujiFilm S 5000 is one of the best cameras to date that I have seen for it's price, quality, and overall value. It sports a 10x optical zoom, which when taking pictures, allows you to see the bugs in the grass from a standing height of 6 feet. It allows for all the detail you could ever want. It's frame is built like a tank, so it should stand up to some beating. The EVF or electronic view finder is one of the most unique ideas I have ever seen for a viewfinder. Unlike standard cameras where what you see is a bit over what the lens sees in the camera, the EVF allows for you to be able to see exactly what the lens sees. Also, the 4th generation CCD is an octagonal shape where as most are a standard circle. This allows for a better resolution with less work from the camera. It is a digital SLR or single lens reflect look alike because it has a lot of the features of an SLR, but at a fraction of the price. It's screen allows you to see everything in perfect focus. The diopter on the EVF allows for focal lengths for any member of the family. It has the simplicity of a point and shoot while maintaining an SLR apperance. It is a beautiful camera and I would highly reccommend it to anyone. The fujifilm website also gives all sorts of tips and tricks for this new camera so please check it out too.

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: Price, Included basic Accessories and love the addaptor ring that really makes this one look like a true SLR.

Weakness: Slow shutter speed and too Much Compression for JPG Format.

Overall this is really a great camera. It does take wonderful photos even in the automatic mode. Have had the chance to use it for about 800 photos so far indoors as well as outdoors. Have tired all modes and the Raw format is really the best. Only problem is when you shoot in the lower memory stages, 6,4,2 and 1 meg range the camera compresses the photos to about 72 pixels resolution. For what I'm using this one for it's ok but I really do like the RAW format it's much higher resolution. File sizes in RAW are 6.9 megs so be prepaired to have plenty of XD memory cards available.

Now to really get the best performance out of this one you will need a highend photo processing software. Fuji missed the boat on this one. I'm using Adobe Photoshop and the images print out really nice. Now for the RAW format you have to go to the Adobe website and download the plug-in for photoshop. They currently only support CS (photoshop 8. Well the plug-in works fine with my 4.0 version as well as my version 7.

Will be going on vacation this week and taking a lot of horseshow photos for the family in Oklahoma City at the Appaloosa Nationals so will know more about this one's capabilies when I get back in two weeks.

Again overall this one is diffently a keeper. Lots of features for the little price. Shutter is slow and for sports you have to know what you want before hand to compasate for the shutter delay. Guess if you stacked it up with the SLR's it's a 4 out of a 5.

Will post more after the trip.

Ok finally finished the photos for the Nationals and several other local shows. Shot over 3000 pics out in Oklahoma and about 1500 locally. Man did this camera do a great job. Some of my friends I took pics of stated that my shots were as good or better than the professionals at the show with my cheaper camera. So that should tell you what kind of camera this one really is. I think I'll keep this one and use the savings to upgrade my software to produce better products in RAW format. Again my only complaint with this one is the delay of the shutter speed when you take a shot (about .5 of a second)and the jpeg compression is way too much. The shots would be much clearer with out compression.

Thats all for now. Again I recommend this one it really is a keeper.

Updated Januray 2005.

Ok so far this one is a keeper. I've now started to really shoot action shots and the delay on the shutter is way off. If your going to shoot sports action shots look for something that has a more rapid action once you press the button. .5 seconds min on this one and you will miss the shot.

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: 10x optical zoom, fairly quick focusing, solid for day activities. Flash fills in nicely.

Weakness: max shutter speed 1/2000; at 800 ISO, can shoot only 1MP images/not 3.2MP as with 200, 400 ISOs. No external flash bracket.

As sports photographer, I look for max optical zooms, fast shutter speeds, continous frame speed and ISO options. S5000 has 3.2 f-stop on 10x zoomed images, but pic quality is clean until 800 ISO. At 800, Fuji allows only 1 MP images due to high-rez grain. So forget large prints on night photos. Overall pleasing mid-range camera for sports and easier subjects.

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: Price\Quality Ratio; Image Quality and Performance; Featureset; Lightweight; Looks & Feels good; 10x Optical Zoom

Weakness: 2x digital zoom tends to pixelate on some shots; 16mb card is insufficient. I got the 128mb card, and it's adequate, but I think the 512mb would be the ticket.

I am ASTOUNDED at the performance of this camera! If you're after a good digital Camera without a ton of $$$, this is the one to get. Just buy it.

I've had this camera for 6 weeks now. I shot around 1400 pics the 1st week just experimenting. Here's what I experienced:
While riding at 40mph, I shot a pic of a roadside sign. It came out perfect, no blurs, as if I was standing still on the roadside.
The Continuos shoot mode is phenomenal. Video mode captures great quality (Waterfalls on a backpack trip came out GREAT!) Battery life has been excellent. (I've changed them once since getting the camera, but I don't use the flash) The flash worked well for the few shots I used it. Self Timer - Excellent; Shutter mode - great (Wish it had a faster setting), ISO's great (Wish 800 didn't insist on 1mb mode); Night shots could be better, but that may be the operator. All in all - I LOVE this camera. It's the bomb!

When you consider it to be @ a $300 camera - you're getting WAY more than what you're paying for. Quality, functionality, creativity (manual modes - shutter speed, aperature setting, manual focus), film type profiles (Chrome, B&W, Standard), Video Capture, On-Camera cropping, etc.. what a wonderful package!

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: 10X optical Zoom/Fits nicely in hands/Lightweight/Awesome zoom features/East to use

Weakness: 15mb included (purchase more while your shopping for this camera because you'll need it)

I just purchased this and found this site. I have to agree with all the other posts on this camera. This camera cannot be beat for it's price.

I went to BestBuy today and had this camera in mind after reading some reviews on many cameras in the last couple of weeks. The salesman at BestBuy said I would be better off with the Sony 4.0 (Don't remember model) as he said the Fuji has had complaints on how hard it is to function.

My main purpose was to have a camera for closeup shots and shooting intricate details. He tried to show me Sony's features and he couldn't get it as clear as the Fuji's on the LCD. I literally had zoomed in on some things around the store, and this had awesome sharpness. I told him I'm going with the Fuji S5000.

I also purchased the Image reader by Sandisk (per salesmans request. Rechargable batteries and the charger, 128mb, and a carrying case. Oh yeah..I also purchased the Photo Explosion Photo Suite to do some fun things for all the pics I'm planning on taking.

I got home and started reading the instructions. The camera is SO easy to get up and running plus, the instructions were plain as day. This camera has TONS of features for it's price (399.00) I had a old Kodak Easy Share with the 1.3mp and couldn't take a picture inside for nothing. I took a bunch of my pooch and they came out like a professional on their standard auto mode.

I'm excited to start using this camera. Best purchase I've made in a LONG time. GET IT!!

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: zoom, ease of use

Weakness: jpg compression

Hello
After a few weeks, I can allow myself to give my appreciation for the S5000
camera. The functions of the camera, such as the zoom, are a plus. I
like the handling, the facility of operation. As regards the quality
of the photographs, I made several tests. My tests were printed with
Docu 12 of Xerox with a Splash rip. The photographs compressed in jpg
show a too high compression ratio. Except that for photographs of
every day, the result is good enough. The 3 megapixels
gives a good returned in 8x10 and I get a gain of sharpness when
I used 6 megapixels. The images in 6 megapixels give an acceptable
quality when printed in 11x17. I obtained another gain of sharpness
by using RAW function. However, the software provided by Fuji to
convert RAW files, does the same work as the camera when this
one compresses the images in jpg. If we want to assess the quality
of the camera fully, we have advantage to convert files RAW with the
assistance of Photoshop. Photoshop CS now has a plug-in which work
with Fuji S5000, and the result is higher. However, for the
images which I will take in the future, I will use the basic jpg compression, since it is much easier to use these compressed
files, in particular with the Iphoto software from macintosh and that
the result is nevertheless rather good. When I will need to make images of
quality, I will use RAW function. Thank you

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: Very attractive and rugged build. Manual or automatic photo settings. Best price/value ratio on the market. Good quality photos.

Weakness: Only 1MP shots at 800 ISO. Fujis RAW converter is weak (a freeware alternative exists and Photoshop CS is slated to support S5000 RAW files early in 2004).

I previously owned an HP Photosmart 315 and decided to upgrade. Initially I purchased the Fuji Finepix 3800 which is also a fine camera but which is limited by the lack of manual adjustments and a poor EVF and LCD display (in low light situations). After playing with it for a week or so I decided to pass it on to my wife and opted for a S5000 (after a lot of research). Reviews, both professional and user, of this camera are a mixed bag making it difficult to make a decision without having actually seen and used to camera. Ultimately I think most of the negative reviewers forgot how little this gem costs due to it's expensive look and base their opinions on comparisons to cameras costing hundreds of dollars more. While this unit isn't perfect by any means, the photo quality is excellent and passes the inkjet printer test. I haven't had any of the images professionally printed yet however, judging by the inkjet output, any average photo finisher should be able to produce excellent prints from this camera. I have done some testing of RAW vs. 3 MP images and haven't seen any major quality differences in the output. Once Photoshop introduces RAW support for the camera this may change. All in all, I'm am totally pleased with this camera and would recommend it to anyone other than the most discriminating professional photographer.

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: VERY easy to use. The auto setting does excellent for all styles of shots that I have taken as far as lighting, focus, exposure. Excellent photo quality and batteries last a long time.

Weakness: None really. As stated in other reviews, video isn't camcorder quality by far but if you're looking for that get a camcorder anyway.

Wife and I love it. Replacing a Kodak 3.1MP a couple of years old. For being a 3.1 MP rated camera, the photos are excellent. Actually a 6 MP picture is recorded in high quality mode. You'll have to check out the Fuji brochures to see how this is performed. A BIG difference between photos of regular lenses and the Fuji's HR-CCD. Color is very good and detail is awesome. The zoom is the best I've used on a digital camera and I love the ability for so many add-ons such as TP and WA lenses, filters, etc. You'll definitely want a larger XD-Card than the 16MB one supplied. I definitely consider it an entry level SLR (High end). Glad I opted for this one instead of other brands that were limited on expansion and for much more $$$$. If you're going to spend much more on a different brand, with all the features that this one has, then you might as well step up to the S7000 and have a mac-daddy. I expect to buy another one within the year to take with me on deployments(Navy).

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: Lightweight, ease of use and longest battery life in its category compared to other brands. Good range of zoom provided.

Weakness: This camera is aimed for the normal consumer. For serious photographers, get a digi SLR. Tripod mount not in line with lens, a problem when taking panoromics.

I don't own this camera but I'm an avid photographer and digicam sales personnel. This camera offers comparable features over the s7000. The only disadvantage is that it's only 3.1mp. However it uses super CCD, an enhanced capture chip to improve the image quality, developed by fuji. This gives the image quality "comparable" to a 6mp image. What I like about this camera is the low power consumption. It lasts approx. 150 hrs(shoots ard 500 pix) on 4 AA NiMh rechargeables.

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: price! Functionality! High ISO 800 (although at 1M);takes filters;movies smoothness

Weakness: auto focus and shutter lag are better than average, but still too slow for spontaneity; cumbercum to navigate the menu; manual focus extremely difficult to use;poor build quality;no true wide angel

You can't beat the price-functionality ratio of this thing. For $300 you get so much camera. High ISO comes in handy for indoor photography. You can even take B&W pictures.Pictures quality is good enough. Overall I strongly recommend it. But you read reviews to find out the less than perfect aspects so here we go: 1)build quality--lense barrel is loose, we exchanged the 1st one and the 2nd one was even worse, but it doesn't seem to affect picture quality;2)manual focus too difficult to use, auto focus' generally fast enough but takes some hunting sometimes 3)camera makes an unpleasant high-pitched sound 4)no true wide angel (only 37mm), but that seems like the industry norm 5)shutter lag is quite good but still too slow for taking spontaneous pictures of little kids playing (true for all digital cameras in this price range though).5)ISO800 only available at 1M;6) longest exposure time is only 2 sec.

Some tips: 1) use the chrome color setting to get better saturation 2) combine tele and manual focus, if you want to fill frame with your subject, e.g. your kid's face 3)get a UV filter and lens cap put on to protect lens; 4) or put on a polarizer filter to get richer colors ( a must have for seiour scenary phtography); 5) for in-door pictures, better to forgo the automatic settings and use the "P"(programable) or "A" (aperture priority) to set ISO to 400(800 only at 1M) to ensure maximun shutter speed to avoid shaking,"slow-syc" flash mode helps with low light conditions too.

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: optical zoom, soft flash-eject, common-use battery supply(AA with NiMh recommended) vs expensive and dedicated type, picture quality with 3.1 MP,multiple manual controls (some tricky to understand, but only had 20days

Weakness: SLOW to take picture once shutter button is pressed; my Olympus 700 UZ was a bit slow too, but holding button half-way down prepared the focus and then shutter was instantaneous with shutter button.

I purchased this cam because I thought it would be SOME improvement over my Olympus c700 UZ. For the most part it is an improvement, but the delay between shutter button being pressed and actual shutter activation is very annoying. My Oly had a similar effect, but by holding the button half-way down, the focus would lock on the Oly, and then when I actually took the picture there was NO delay. With the S5000, there is ANOTHER delay and during fast-paced or action shots of any kind. This can make for a very different picture than intended. I had the false impression that there was a manual focus-ring on the lens barrel, and have yet to figure-out how to use the manual control for this. I love the appearance of this camera, and have gotten many comments about it. Overall, for the price, I am quite impressed with this camera. Comparing the actual working components (buttons, mode-dial, flash pop-up pannel, lens zoom and deployment, and carrying strap, I find it a toss-up. Picture quality goes to the Finepix without a doubt, including the quality of the video mode. I still use my c700 a lot and will until I fully figure the manual controls for the Finepix. Here are some I took with the c700 last summer..

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: Well designed camera with lots of features. It's hard not to believe you have an SLR in your hands. Great battery life.

Weakness: PICTURE QUALITY! Limited to two second minimum shutter speed. 16 meg card is all but usless, plan on buying a new one! It's a 3 megapixel, not 6!

The image quality is good, but not great. What a shame that fuji designs a virtually perfect camera and then over compresses the image. It definitely needs a high quality mode like some of their other models have. (I upgraded from the fuji 2600Zoom which has this feature). Take your pic's in the three megapixel mode as six meg is too noisy.
The zoom is awesome and it takes good low light shots even without the flash. (the 2600Z is horrible in low light, even with the flash).
I've been using rayovac ic3 rechargables (recharges four AA's in 12 min!) and I get two to three days of medium use out of them. I got a little more that one day on regular alkalines.
You can't beat the features of this camera for it's class, and although the picture quality is an issue, I would still recommend this camera for the price range.

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: S5000 feels like a 35 mm camera, the zoom capabilites are incredible at 10x. Battery life with the rechargable AA's is surprising. Price can't be beat.

Weakness: it's not a movie camera so you focus and shoot video, no changing the zoom while recording. The audio needs an auxillary input for better quality .. but again it is a still camera

I have been amazed at the quality value for the money. I have friends that have spent over $1200 for Sony and are jealous of the features, the quality and certainly the price. As for the batteries .. they are basic AA's, in a pinch you can get them anywhere. I purchased rechargeables and have never left with a fully charged set of batteries and run them out . I say that because I tax the camera for recording video of musicians that perform live on a radio show for a website. It works great for a sample. Again it is not a movie camera, but very handy. I opted for the largest memory card (XD512mg) and it will hold up to 1100 pictures or up to (roughly) 15 minutes of audio/video, The batteries have never run out with all of that starting from a full charge. I can't say that about other cameras that would eat batteries.

Nearly everyone that tries this camera ends up getting the information from me to buy their own. I wish I could get a commission check everytime I play salesman for the Fuji S5000 Digital Camera. You will not be disappointed that you purchased this camera, and if you compare it to anything even similar in features, you will come out way ahead overall.

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: Great auto, semi-auto and almost fully manual modes. Zoom lens is a wonder. Light and handy. Strong flash. Excellent battery life with no flash.

Weakness: Needs 128 Meg memory card. Must carry extra batteries if all flash work. No big problem

I have retired all my SLRs. The S5000 is a small, light, jewel. Everything falls right to the fingers. So many features require some study of the manual but the info is there, the language is American English and the learning is fun. Close ups, telephoto, shutter or apeture priority, auto or manual focus, through the lens focus, diopter adjust on viewfinder, aligment grids, you name it.
Camera has been used at parties, for architectural shots, skiing, close ups of jewelry, portraits and fine art sales shots. Virtually all at 3 meg. Tests at 6 meg showed advantage if much editing will be done. Lens distortion is VERY well controlled. Level the camera, lock color and exposure and do marvelous panoramas and architectural work.
AA super alkalines are just fine for me. Buy on sale at $0.50 each and just throw them away. I get 200-300 shots with no flash, about 80 with flash. Easier than recharging 2-3 sets of batteries and MUCH cheaper than buying/developing film.
After 1000+ shots, I am still delighted and amazed; and still learning new tricks. There is no competitor camera for the semi-pro photographer. Only extra thing needed is a 128 mb minimum memory card. Camera and card cost $350 and that will be the best money you will ever spend.

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: 1>Excellent quality for its price! 2>Light weight for its good looks (I didn't want a tiny toy-looking camera) 3>Takes great pictures under low lights. 4>Very easy to use.

Weakness: It takes a few seconds to switch from Rec to Playback mode and vice versa.

I bought it as a gift to my parents. The pictures came out great even under low lights and it's very easy to use even for my dad (who is complete new to anything digital). He's very happy with it, and we definitely recommend it.

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: Ease of use for 'Brownie' operators, yet sufficient complexity and flexibility for those who want to do advanced photog. LCD viewer and TTL system. 4x NiMH batteries take over 200 high res shots.

Weakness: Not 'especially' spontaneous for sports/action shots. Takes some thinking.

My wife adores this camera. I love it for it's flexibility and Mode acessibiility. My 2 y/o granddaughter loves that she can see 'uh-Me' instantly, and in VERY high quality.

Once I learned the menu, it became quite natural to maenuver. All in all, as good a deal as I have seen. I got mine for Christmas, and we paid < US$ 300 delivered, no add-ons.

Got a 64MB chip, MUCH better. Will get 128M, and prices are coming inline w/ other media. Already accepted in printers. Macro works well, although you need to practice. Have taken over 1000 shots so far, and am pleased as punch!

My FM is about to retire I think.
Don't leave home w/o it!

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: The 10x optical zoom was a must with me and even at 3mp the pictures are great.

Weakness: Instruction manual is hard to read.

I have had this camera for two weeks and have taken alot of pictures. I have used a 35mm for 40 years and was waiting for the right digital camera to come around. I found it. Just put it on auto and you start shooting. I also bought the card reader but found it to be a waste because the camera downloads fast using the usb cord.
The zoom is great and the camera is very light weight. I look forward to learning everything that this camera will do.

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: Quality/Cost ratio is outstanding! Lightweight. Accepts AA batteries. Easy menus. Batteries last suprisingly long.

Weakness: Included software is really only good for downloading or uploading the pics to the computer. Additional lenses are expensive.

Great camera for the price, the next camera on my want list was $900.00 I bought this one for about $300! Not quite as many features as other higher-quality cameras, but the cost difference is well worth the sacrifice! The 10X zoom I'm still bragging about at work. I have a few friends who paid twice the amount for their cameras and only have a 2 1/2 to 3X zoom. (ha ha ha) I don't like to count the additional 2.2X digital zoom, although I have used it a few times with still good quality. The 16 Meg card that is included is pretty much a waste...go for the 512 meg and you'll be set! Movie mode is awesome!!! Very smooth frame rate. (Best I've seen!) Built-in microphone does a good job. You can nit-pick this camera a little here and there, but you have to remember that you're spending a third of what the next best camera would cost you. This camera offers lots of cool features that let you be creative. I also like the fact that it takes AA batteries (not a special battery pack) so I can go to a local department store and buy 15 min. rechargable Nickel metal hidride batteries for about $30.00. I think I'll be very satisified with this camera for a long time.

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: As you see in the other reviews: 10x optical zoom, 3.1 to 6 MP. Manual settings and 4th generation SuperCCD HR. Easy to handle, looks like a Pro Digicam. Just kicks but.

Weakness: Could have longer time on shutter (only max 2sec).

My first Digicam was the ancient Eastman Kodak DC120 1.3 MP digital Science camera. It cost me $599.00US and was the bomb in its day. That was waaay back in '97'.

I then purchased another Kodak Digicam and was impressed until I came across the Fuji 2800Z 6x digicam. We took it to Yosemite and when we uploaded the pics to my notebook we just could not believe the quality of the photos. Of course, my faithful old DC120 ended up on the shelf only to be used by our boys for "fun" shots and also for them to learn how to "tweak" digital photos in PS.

As I progressed in my venture into Digital photography I really wanted something that had more features and allowed me to play with different exposures so I set out to find a camera that was in a certain budget and thus I found out about the S5000 from Fuji.

I studied on other "like" digicams but I was not willing (so said my wife) to pay upwards of $800.00 for my next camera. When I found out how many features the S5000 had and after seeing many comparison shots of the other "high-end" digicams and then the price of those cams compared to the Fuji S5000 I got permission from the boss (my wife) to buy the S5000 and now I got my baby sitting right here as I type this review out.

I have only owned this camera for 5 days but I have also taken over 500 pictures with it and with each passing day I grow more and more fond of this awesome camera.

I have not yet actually taken my pics into the local Wally Mart to see how they will come out in photo paper, but I will tell you this; if they come out anything like I see only monitor then this camera is just in a class all by its own self.

I had taken my son to the San Diego Zoo last year and had borrowed a friends Fuji 602S and I was blown away by the quality of pics that it took. The Fuji FinePix S5000 is a combination of the best of the FinePix 2800z and the S602 and you get the S5000. Even when I compared the S7000 and I had the money to buy the S7000 I still went with the S5000 because it just was a better deal money wise.

You will not be sorry if you buy the S5000. As many have said in these reviews, nothing even comes close. More bang for the buck. BUY IT!

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: Beautiful and practical ergonomic design, many features for the price range, reliable brand name support, great user reviews, wonderful manual control options of focusing and zoom.

Weakness: a 16mb memory card that's seemingly and disappointingly standard in cameras of this class, it seems.

I've been debating whether to purchase this Fuji S5000 or the Toshiba PDR-M700. On Tigerdirect's respective pages with their respective analyses of these two cameras, the Toshiba seemingly comes out ahead, in technical specifications. It's just that small little bit upgraded from the Fuji that I gave it a second look, closer. In my previous experience with the lower end Camedia products of this company, I've found myself really frustrated with the product. It was very unreliable and the feel of it was horrible. It's this shiny, smooth, unbalanced thin plastic shell. This Fuji, on the other hand, is just absolutely gorgeous, and with the texturing and very well designed ergonomic shape, I would choose it over the Toshiba and definately over any other camera that's trying to compete. This S5000 looks very professional. Check out the different-angled pictures: www.tigerdirect.com/ap...

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: Easy to use. Has plenty of features. Takes excellent pictures. Nice zoom lens

Weakness: Manual focus a little difficult to use

This is the first digital camera I have ever bought. I did a lot of research on the features I wanted. I wanted a good zoom lens. I wanted a camera that would help me learn to take more 'professional' type pictures. This one has been an excellent choice. I bought it online and saved 100 dollars over the price at best buy.

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: For amature photography it is an excelent camera, great for use at autoshows

Weakness: Comes with wimpy 16mb memory card

I have used this camera in mainly auto focus mode and have had no problems. With 2050mAH rechargeable AA batteries and using flash 60% of the time I get about 380 pics. Picture quality is very good in my opinion. The cameras that are in the top 10 list with this one are really in another catagory, this is definately not a top 10 camera for the expierenced user. For ametaur it ranks #1 or 2. For the mid range user it is about 3rd best. I would reccomend this camera for any one looking to get into there first digital camera or for an ameture looking to upgrade form a lower end camera.

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: 10X zoom, Price, 6MP, battery life and easy to use.

Weakness: No hot shoe, the capacity of XD memory is smaller than the others right now.

This is my second Fujifilm digital camera I owned. I bought MX2900 few years ago and it's time to upgrade to a new one. I've done my reserch for a month and ended up with 3 final choices. Olympus 750Z, Fuji S7000 and S5000. I like the 11MP and the Microdrive high capacity probability on the S7000. But, it's only has 6X zoom. I want the 10X. So, I eliminated the S7000. The Olympus has the 4MP but the S5000 can records 6MP and it's cheaper. Therefore, I chose the S5000. I can use the camera right out of the box without reading the menu. I changed the settings right away just by fooling around with it for 10 minutes. 6MP picture is more than enough for normal peoples. I can crop the picture any way I want it without losing the quality unless you want to print a big poster. I took 70 pictures with the batteries that came with the camera and it's still going. I took the camera to the party and my friends loved it so much. 2 of them ordered the same camera the next day. They already owned a digital camera too.

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: Great Digital Zoom, 10x. The camera has a lot of features that you can't find without paying more bucks for. Euivalent of 800 ISO speed for shutter.

Weakness: It takes 4 AAA batteries. Don't know how long they will last but usually cameras drain them fast.

This is my second Fuji Digital Camera. I was pleased with my other one (bang for the buck) and choose another Fuji. The digital zoom is great and the photo quality is the best you'll find without paying several more hundred for. I love the viewfinder with it's Video / Digital view of the subject your taking photos of .. this saving your batteries. Another feature I did not know it had is an auto picture mode .. just hold down a button and it will take photo after photo .. cool for an event to get a serious of photos back to back. Long story short this is a great camera for the price, only draw back is the 4 AAA batteries. Usually cameras suck them dry fast, I have not had this one long enough to see how it does on them.

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: 10x zoom, ease of use, wide angle lense and filters available, looks and feels like a real camera, Takes great photos. Good photo software included.

Weakness: Tiny 16mb xd card included. Instruction booklet could be clearer and a bit more informative. Would be nice to have it on CD or PDF file.

I've only had this camera a few days, but have already taken some great photos, and really like the easy to use imaging software. Using the Fuji finepix software in conjunction with Adobe Photo deluxe, I'm getting great results.
I bought this camera from ExpressCameras.com for only $279.00 and they included a nice camera bag and a tabletop tripod. What a deal!
I have friends who have paid more for cameras with less features. It pays to read the reviews. I did.

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: 10x zoom, Fully automatic to fully manual, Great still shot quality.

Weakness: Uses XD cards (expensive), Bulky with adaptor ring, No software support.

This is my first digital camera and I decided on it after talking to a camera shop sales rep. who said it was her choice if she were to buy a camera at that price (they wanted about $500). I like it for the most part but there are a few flaws in its design.

The manual recommends that you keep the lens ring adapter on at all times to protect the retractable lens. If you put the lens cap directly on the camera (without the adapter) and turn it on the lens tries to expand and can't because the lens cap is attached to the outer ring. That seems like a design flaw. What's the point of having a retractable lens if you have to keep the adapter ring on all of the time? They should have made it so the lens cap attached to the inner most part of the lens.
When shooting video you can't zoom while recording and the video quality is poor. You should get an actual video camera if you want to do a lot of video recording. The ImageMixer VCD software it comes with has problems as it won't work with my CD burner. I can't get any technical support from Fuji for it. The camera uses XD cards which seem to be harder to find and more expensive than the CF or SD cards I already own for my PDA. The 16MB card that comes with it is way too small.

On the good site, it seems to have the most bang for the buck with all of its features for $300. The body is designed like a small SLR with controls that are easy to reach and the 10x optical zoom is great. The still picture quality is excellent and the automatic focus, shutter speed and aperture work well in most settings. You can set it for aperture or shutter speed priority or set it to fully manual if you want. Overall it’s a pretty good camera for $300.

Strengths: 10x zoom, price, feel and look of 35 mm SLR.

Weakness: None yet!

I love to shoot sports, especially Arizona Diamondback games. When I saw the 10x zoom I wanted it. When I saw the price I couldn't believe it. Got it at Protek.com for $285 plus shipping. I am very happy with it!

By the way the reviewer who said it takes 4 AAA batteries is wrong. It takes AA and with the XD memory card, they last quite a while.

Strengths: very light weight, eay to use. My wife and I really enjoy this dig.cam I've tried out several before desiding on S5000, and was very happy on my purchase. Its a cam for any type of phtograper.

Weakness: camcorder is slow and not for use for sports or anykind of action shots.

very fun cam to use and easy for anyone. my 5 yr old son loves it, my wife thinks it very light weight and fun. The realtors at our office think its a blast to use for their listing shots, and the softwear for their flyers is easy they say. I would suggest this cam for anybody who enjoys the photography field.

Awesome camera

Strengths: lightweight, super easy to operate, the sharpest, best pics I've ever taken were with this camera!

Weakness: NONE

I have taken pictures for a few weddings where I was NOT the hired photographer and the pictures I shot were used in wedding albums we gave as gifts. My pictures turned out better with this camera than the hired photograhers!
We have tons of family pics, this camera is so easy to grab and go! We've had it for over 2 years now and never had a problem!

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: The reason I chose this camera over other digitals is because it feels most like an SLR and I thought it would make the trasition to digital easier.

Weakness: Power went out and I had to mail it to the repair center in New Jersey. Very inconvenient. Slow shutter speed on auto making it susceptible to camera movement.

I spent $411 on this camera less than a year ago. It quit working on Easter, so I got no photos of our family gathering. The only way to get it replaced or repaired is to mail it in, which I find very inconvenient.

There is a long delay after pressing the shutter button, making it virtually impossible to get candid shots of people.

The shutter is slow, so it is easy to get blurry photos due to camera movement. (Never had this problem with a "regular" camera.)

The monitor is on the small side. I would choose the largest monitor on my next purchase.

The mode selector is "loose" and moves from the chosen setting very easily.

I bought this camera because I wanted zoom and it does have that. I would like something with a wider angle, though.

I also wanted a camera that felt like my old SLR. Now I wish I had bought something more compact, as this camera is a bit unwieldly. I could have the same or better features on a campact digital camera.

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 3.1 Megapixel Bridge Camera -...

Strengths: Takes good pictures, Zooms in very close.

Weakness: Expensive to fix. I used it only to take 100 pictures and it broke after the warranty was over. With the Zoom you need to hold the camera very still.

The cost of repair for the short life of this camera was not worth the purchase. It broke in cold temperatures in the single digits. I believe the camera cannot take cold temperatures. It took great pictures.

Strengths: Does everything I can expect and does it well, i.e. takes great pictures!

Weakness: It's a little slow booting up and the eye level view finder ain't too crisp.

This is an excellent camera! It does everything well. On a trip west I shot 204 pictures and ALL were great except the three I tried to control, ALL on one set of rechargeable batteries and down loaded to two PCs. I'm 79, started with a Brownie Box, had three camcorders, two movie cameras, two SLRs, and I've never enjoyed a camera like this! Enjoy!

Strengths: I just bought this camera, and i really like it! the quality of the pictures are the best, and it has lots of manual features, so you can do anything you want with it. The zoom is just great.

Weakness: The software. but you don't need it. i recomend photoshop pro. the manual features are not that simple to use for an amateur, but still easy if you read the manual.

I like it! It's very confortable to carry, easy to use, and it takes the best pictures. great 10x zoom also. The manual features are not that easy to use, but if you read the manual it will be OK! The fuji software is not that good, but you don't need it, can use other photo program, as photoshop 7, it's great. It's the best machine i ever had
