HP R817Strengths: Very Good Zoom 5X for a portable point and shoot camera Weakness: Battery life, slow charging HP R817 has a pentax lens 5X zoom, which pretty good for the price HP is offering. It has a large screen fast enough camera on day light shooting, good for indoor shots using the adaptive lighting capability. This camera is capable of redeye, panorama, etc. My only concern was the battery life, it took 100 pictures for the charge(Regular use) with some use of flash and zooming.

As long as you don't plan on taking a lot of long exposures, the HP Photosmart R817 is a compact camera that I can definitely recommend. It features a fairly compact metal and plastic body and it's very solid in the hand. There's a large 2" LCD display which "gains up" in low light so your subject is still visible.
