Nikon D80 - A great starter Digital SLR

Strengths: Intuitive menu system. Room for growth for someone wanting to learn DSLR. On camera photo editing. LCD plastic cover.

Weakness: None so far.

I have been a point and shoot camera user for about six years (30,000 pictures), owning a Canon S400, S410, S1, and S2. This is my first Digital SLR. I chose to go with the D80 over the D50 because it's size is smaller than the higher models (D200, D2X) yet it still supports many of the more advanced (manual) features. I felt that the D50 would not provide enough features for me to grow into as I...

FINALLY! A superb digital camera at affordable price

Strengths: Build quality, battery power excellent, easy to use

Weakness: none

It's quick, intuitive to use, and takes excellent photos with the kit lens (I bought the 18 to 55 mm). With a 2 gig SD card, I can take 523 photos with at the highest-quality JPG setting. Photos load to my computer very quickly, even though they are between 2.5 and 3 megs each at that setting.

Nikon D80 18-55mm kit

Strengths: Fast, well built, sturdy, digital SLR picture clarity, excellent feel. Reasonable price for product.

Weakness: Some simplification of the menus would be helpful, not totally inuitive. Good lenses are expensive, but that is going to be true for all digital SLRs.

I went back and forth between the Canon 30D and Nikon D80. I like a lot of Canon products and have used Canon point and shoot for years. On a lot of levels the Nikon D80 is better than the Rebel XTi (but also more expensive)i, but it is tougher choice between Canon 30D and the D80. So far the D80 has performed with smoothness and sophistication. It is a world of difference from point and shoot....

Great Camera if you can afford the price

Strengths: great jpeg image quality straight from the camera; tons of user features; great 18-135 lens sold with the 'kit'

Weakness: pricey; no in camera stabilization

I am extremely satisfied with the jpeg images from the camera. Much sharper and way better contrast than the shots from my Pentax *ist DS. Sure, some wil shoot the camera in RAW mode, which is execellent too btw, but its great to have great pictures stright from the camera to instantly view on your PC. The 18-135 kit lens that comes with the camera outfit has really sharp image quality and just...

Great Starter DLSR

Strengths: Easy to understand for first time DSLR user Very sharp lens Makes Great photos

Weakness: Needed to buy a Zoom lens Only shoots 3 f/s in burst

I moved up from a Point and Shoot and this camera was very easy to use. The pictures are amazing and the options are many. The battery on the camera lasts forever!!! The D200 is a little better, but I almost never notice. If you are deciding between D220 and D80, go with the D80 and use the extra cash for a lens or flash.

Superb camera and lens

Strengths: * Long battery life * Lotsa pixels * Fast on, fast to click, fairly fast focus * Well built * All the features you will likely need

Weakness: * Has trouble focusing on detail-less objects * Default setting usually overexposes (but can be adjusted)

I purchased this product when my digital point and shoot died. I wanted to upgrade to a digital SLR to begin to replace my professional film SLR (a 30 year-old Contax RTS). I chose the Nikon for several reasons. I am an engineer, and recognize quality when I see it. I also wanted to buy into a system that would have lots of available lenses and attachments. The D80 has enough pixels to replace...

Nikon D80 w/18-55

Strengths: Excellent image quality

Weakness: A little more expensive than competitors

I've been a Nikon user for years and decided to step up to a DSLR. Compared against Canon and Sony and decided to go with Nikon due to compatability with current equipment. Old Nikkor lenses work fine, images clean, and contrasty. 18-55mm lense as good as more expensive zooms; will sell some stuff to save for other accessories.

The replacement to the popular D70 and D70s cameras from Nikon. The D80 introduces new features that should make any enthusiast happy, for a price point that you can afford. A 10.2 resolution is the biggest change, alongside advanced image stabalization and post processing capabilities. ... Camera Labs – Nikon D80 review

The Nikon D80 is without a doubt a very impressive camera. It feels great, handles well, performs superbly and has one of the best viewfinders around. At times when rivals struggled with various lighting conditions, the D80’s metering remained unfazed and quite simply delivered great-looking images every time. The D80 may be a classier camera than its rivals in traditional respects, but has...

Nikon D80 Digital Camera Review

The Nikon D80 is a 10.2-megapixel DSLR for just under $1,000. It's a successor to the 6.1-megapixel D70s, Nikon's wildly popular consumer model. It’s also competition for the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi, the Sony alpha A100, the Olympus EVOLT E-500 and the Pentax K10D. In other words, it’s in a crowded field, populated mainly with cameras that have advanced features like dust reduction and...
