After experimenting with a few...

Strengths: 1. At 2.6X it is the strongest telephoto lens attachment available currently. (2x being the strongest available for this camera) 2. Good color picture quality.

Weakness: 1. Cast an unsidedown cone shaped shadow when used with build-in flash. 2. Can only be used in Full Zoom mode, any less than maximum zoom, you will see a pin-hole.

After experimenting with a few other 3rd party brands, this lens came out on top. It is by far the strongest lens that brings the telephoto side of the DSC-W1 to more than 7x optical. Which is a lot of zoon for a point and shoot compact digital camera. It also works on all other Cybershot series that have an attachment thread (Such as the P series and the W1.) So if ever you decide on changing...

The telephoto lens came with...

Strengths: Compact, lightweight, simple. Cyber-shot DSC-W1 can be used with adapter ring fitted, without telephoto lens.

Weakness: Camera zoom can only be used in the 2x-3x range due to occultation by adapter ring.

The telephoto lens came with protective caps for both ends and a padded bag to hold it. It fitted easily to the adapter ring and required/permitted no adjustment. The Cyber-shot DSC-W1 digital camera requires an (extra) adapter ring in order to fit the telephoto lens, but the ring can be left in place (acting as a lens hood) when the telephoto lens is removed. The one significant draw-back is...

I have used this telephoto lens...

Strengths: Quality construction. Increases zoom level to 7.8!

Weakness: Works best at max zoom. No threads for filter attachment.

I have used this telephoto lens with my DSC-P72 for a few days now - its a must have attachment. Note that this increases the zoom range to 3x2.6=7.8! However there is noticeable vigneting in the zoom range of 2.6~5.2. However the centre of the image is still magnified in this range.

I bought this lens for my digital...

Strengths: High zoom level to 2.6X! And looks nice.

Weakness: couldn't catch good picture when the camera Sony DSC-W1 is set without zoom

I bought this lens for my digital camera Sony DSC-W1. The zoom effect is good.
But when the camera is set without zoom, that is to say, the zoom switch is set at 1X, there is a black margin in the picture and only shows a small-hole scene in the center of picture. So I couldn't always linked the lens with my camera until I want to use large zoom.

This lens looks and works great...

Strengths: Increases zoom to nearly 8x optical, 31x digital zoom. The color nicely matches the DSC-W1 camera.

Weakness: Tunnel vision occurs when the zoom is less than 2x. The flash is blocked by the lens. Requires the purchase of VAD-WA adapter ring to use with camera.

This lens looks and works great with the Sony DSC-W1 camera. It makes the camera look like a more expensive SLR camera (but smaller). The lens is a must have if you take many pictures of scenery or wildlife outside. The lens brings the wildlife closer without scaring it away! Also, the lens comes with a lens cap and pouch to store it in. The pictures I've taken so far look crisp and clear at full...
