I didn't take my old SLR's any more because of all the heavy equipment...the SX100 has almost all the features of an SLR in a compact light body. I'm impressed with the picture quality and even the movies come out awesome.
I don't care about slow flash recharge time because I never use it much anyways and this camera is very good in low light (high ISO up to 1600 and image stabilizer produce almost always great natural light pictures). I don't miss the optical viewfinder either because...come on....who's using it anyways when you have such a big bright LCD Display.
For my needs it is the perfect camera...higly recommended! And I got a very good price too...canon droped the price.

A Great In-Between Camera

Strengths: Manual settings alongside scene modes. Compact for an in-between camera. Looks good and performs well.

Weakness: Low light shooting is average. Some noise in pictures.

Love This Camera!!!

I just purchased this camera after owning a Canon Powershot A610. This is a great improvement. I love the 8.0 megapixels and I love the zoom lens. Camera is a little bulky but it is worth the extra weight. I also like the larger view screen as compared to the A610. Very good basic camera

Strengths: nice zoom

Weakness: the flash does not automatically pop-up

This camera has a great zoom for the price. All photos I've taken have come out great. It's nice that it uses AA batteries (instead of proprietary batteries). I've also taken some movies that have turned out very nice (I uploaded to youtube, and others commented about the high quality of the video).

The one big thing I wish it did was auto-pop-up the flash when it needs the light.
